New Hello ! I bought my first tan doll a few years ago, she's a Remy doll from Darak Dolls- and I've never had a doll yellowing up so fast. Note : I always avoid direct sunlight at all cost, and in over 10 years, barely any of my dolls have yellowed- but it took barely one year for this one to lose her tan and look yellowish. Anyway, I'm looking for ways to give her her skintone back ! I'm a bit scared of dyeing, also because I've seen people there saying it doesn't last long- I don't play with my dolls much, they're mostly on display, if that can help ! Do you have any recommendations on different methods I could try please ?
New If it's just the face or other isolated spot that doesn't get touched/ moved a lot, you can blush it to cover it up using pastels. But if it is all over, I think dyeing might be your only option. If you don't want to tackle it yourself, you could look into other people offering the service, perhaps? I am not really aware that it doesn't last if it is done right, though... going from what some doll modders have had to go through to restore dyed dolls back to their original color, it seems to be quite permanent. There are tutorials on dyeing in the workshop --> customization forum if you'd like to read up on it?
New I've dyed a couple resin dolls, and dyeing is very permanent - you have to sand off the top layer to remove it. Dyeing does fade on PVC/ABS/vinyl dolls, and quickly (within a year, the color starts to fade). For a tan doll, you're going to want to choose the color opposite the one you don't like on the color wheel (scroll halfway down). So if your doll is turning green, using a pale red or orange-red dye overlay will create more of a brown effect. I see you don't have marketplace access yet, because there are people who offer dyeing services on there. I would recommend going to workshop/customization. Dyeing isn't really that difficult, just fiddly. Also, I strongly recommend that you be precise with your measuring. Just as you wouldn't dump an entire bag of flour into a bowl to make a cake, don't dump an entire bottle of dye into a pan of water - you're wasting dye and aren't going to achieve the result you want. Editing to add: this thread might help?
New Thank you SO much for your advices !! I'll look into it more with the thread, and if I feel too anxious about it... I'll wait until I have marketplace access haha ! Thank you so much for all the useful infos!! Thank you so much for your reply ! I tried with pastels but sadly, it is indeed all over her body lol. I'll wait until I can access marketplace, but so glad it is permanent ! Thank you so much !
New Just want to add that I have had (and still have) some dyed resin bjds (bought second hand and dyed by another) and the dye was easily removed. I used acetone free nail varnish remover and isopropyl high percentage. I do remember a hybrid though where the resins were different. The head kept a slight tinge of purple
