Hello,.I would like to share a pattern from a Gothic Lolita magazine but I need to resize it (I have the giant sheet of the pattern and also the diagram from the magazine but I want to make a complete scan already resized and with a 1 x 1 cm square that is ready to be printed), but first, I need to resize the pattern correctly and test it.. If it will come out perfect, I will scan even more cute lolita dresses patterns. Just "teach me" how to resize and I will public and share with all of you, thanks! Ps in the past some tutorials were already linked here in the forum, but I didn't understand well. I need a more easy way, fast ans simple way to resize patterns. A simple explanation. Thank again!
Commenting to bump and so I can see any wisdom shared here . I've resized BJD patterns to other scales (Barbie to MSD, SD to YOSD, etc.), but I have no idea how to begin with a human pattern and end up with a BJD one.
i am pretty sure there was a thread on how to do that! It should be in the workshop Edit: Check here! In the second post the should be something about resizing /threads/general-sewing-links.282149/
Thanks to all... This scale size patterns looks interesting and fast. Pattern Scaling Chart I will scale the pattern and see what happens.. I will try the pieces on a piece of light paper or tissue and then , use glue to attack all pieces. if it's correct, the pattern will fit an MSD doll. (for now I'm going to scale pattern for this size). Thanks! Ok officially begin today the process of making pattern for MSD! Today the first phase was scanning the diagram of the pattern (this is also going to became a tutorial so that many can also resize human's patterns for Bjds, so that we can collaborate each other's, one dress from someone, one dress from someone else, and the wardrobe of bjds will have more kawaii clothes! Phase 1 (scans the diagram) : (Click on the images to Enlarge) Note : for "diagram" I mean the little preview of all the pieces of the pattern. As you can see, we don't need the big sheet pattern, but it's sufficient the little diagram with all the components pieces, like I show in the photo with my pen, that's the diagram that I'll go to scale later: Phase 1 (Bis) Just a sketch of the dress: (as always, click on the image to see the enlarged photo) Very cute, huh? Well, now it's time to make some works before we will be able to have the pattern of this! Stay Tuned! I will post the progresses here, so that one can know when it will be ready.
My advice is not to bother with all the faff. Adapt a pattern that is already the right size - it will probably be quicker and less complicated than adjusting first the scale, then the proportions, then the fit of a human size and and shape pattern. Teddy
Sorry I'm not sure I've understood... the "pattern in the right size" , in which sense? This is a human life size big pattern, I cant scan the big sheet of the pattern.. how I can adapt the pattern to msd? I'm using a method that it's just as I can do by myself, surely there's many other ways to do so ^^` I ve used this method and I know it's a little uncommon but I hope I can complete it.. but if you can explain how to do this as you describe, it would be interesting too.. thanks!
Start with a doll pattern that is already the right size for your doll and adapt it to the style you want. If you start with one (or a combination of more than one) that already have similar elements to the style you want to end up with, it will be less work adapting a pattern that already fits your doll than it will be shrinking a human pattern down to doll size, then fiddling with the proportions to get them from human proportion to doll proportion, then fiddling with the fit of the pattern on your doll. I really can't understand why people spend hours fiddling with human sized patterns trying to shrink, reproportion, and fit them to a doll when there are quicker and simpler ways of doing it. It's not even as if the pattern you are starting with is unusual or complicated, there must be lots of MSD sized blouse patterns already in existence that are similar enough to that one to adapt , and the same goes for the dress over it.. It's a baic pinafore style with bows up the front of the bodice, nothing complicated or unusal that warrants the faff of startign with a human pattern when there must be dozens of MSD dress patterns that would be a quicker and easier starting point. Here, for example is an MSD blouse pattern that is very close to the style you are starting with: BJD Pattern MSD 1/4 Rose lolita dress set E-Pattern It took three minutes of Googling to find it And if you can't find a dleeveless dress pattern in the right style to use, sart with a n MSD corset pattern such as this https://i.etsystatic.com/7543062/r/il/d32386/777944662/il_794xN.777944662_svyy.jpg, and add shoulder straps and a skirt. She skirt is just a rectangle gathered onto the bottom of the bodice, the straps are straight strips, and you can adapt the top edge of the corset at the front to have that little dip shown in the picture. Job done, no need waste time trying to adapt and resize a human pattern to fit a doll. Teddy
The method I m using is to scan the diagram of the pattern and then open an MSD pattern with a 1 cm x 1 cm square on it so that it can be in the right size, and overlap the diagram pattern over the MSD pattern and creating two layers, I try to match the pieces like sleeves or body piece in a way that it's similar to the size of the MSD pattern below. I ve always use the same image of the MSD patterns 's pieces as the body and sleeves often are always similar, I will post here the reference images too. For now this is the progress, I ve overlapping my reference MSD pattern that I've already enlarged in past by scanning and I've already tested and it fit my MSD doll, I've added a 1 x 1 cm square and I always use this as reference, and I usually compared the size of sleeves or bodice pieces, as long as they fit similar size (I will scan and attach here later as reference here) I've import this image with a graphic software in a layer and I add a second layer with the diagram scanned that I need to scale so that match with the reference pattern: I will post my progress! Sorry if is a bit more long as method but it works... Of course I will use some piece of paper and create the model to see if it works.. if it's ok I will leave the pattern already resized here! Now I'm hurry that I have to go to my job place and here it's morning.. see later! I will read the replies..... Oh, I ve read your suggestion! Thank you, I will try also this suggestion as you said in future, for now I will complete as I'm doing, I will add here the patterns already done and scaled so that one have just to print it, so no efforts lol But of course your suggestions can be useful for the next patterns, it will be also as reference for who wants also scale and share future doll clothes. Thanks again Ok, next step (I'm at work now, but when I'm at home I will continue), this morning I've printed the pattern's pieces. Now the next step is to test a little the pattern if it needs some adjustments, anyway for the next step is to use tissue paper. I will trace over the tissue paper the pattern printed and I will cut it and glue each piece (exactly as if I'm sewing, but instead of sewing I'll use glue ). I will have a delicate piece reproduced of how the final dress on the fabric should looking.. if the dress prototype would fit well I will proceed to trace the pattern on the fabric and I will sewing all and I will post here the final result + the patterns ready and scaled with a 1 x 1 cm square (and inches) so that can be printed in the right size. These are the next steps. Stay tuned! (I will also add photos of these steps I've mentioned above)
Good evening (here in Italy it's already night), I will add some updates, the works it seems is going well. Today I've tried the fit on my Luts MSD Kids Delf "Woory". The fit it's perfect! Can you realize that with this method, practically you can get ANY kawaii dress for dolls, from any life-size pattern?? ahh.. there's so many many cute outfits... I can't wait to do more! Ok for now here the images of process: trace the pieces of pattern ready and enlarged, on paper tissues, glue them carefully (as is very delicate), and try on the doll. The result it's perfect. The fit its ok, if we consider that the part above need to be adjusted yet. Behind the original pattern have elastics, later I will post in which sense, because I don't know the English word for this type of elastic sewing またね! See you!
Hi again, some updates (right now I'm in a beach's home so I m slowing the updates anyway the pattern fit well so I'm going when back at home to complete the dress and use the fabrics, take pics, and then upload all the materials, so see you as soon as I can! Still it miss some frills the hat but I will do this when I will use the actual fabric... for now it's sufficient even incomplete like this. (the skirt is not necessary to make trial parts as it's a simple rectangle so I didn't created the sample with tissue paper Stay tuned, bye for now
a little update: I didn't forget, I'm on vacation mode and often at the beach home and it's not easy find the space to work, but at September I will complete this. I will just cut the pieces of fabric and assemble everything with sewing machine when I will end vacation , lol .. take care! PS old photo before I went in vacation mood
Very interesting method... Do the proportions match or did you have to shorten anything a lot? I was thinking of trying to do this too but wasn't sure how fiddly it would be. It looks great so far, very cute pattern on the fabric.
hello... I didn't forget of this post.. I had a lot of projects started that I could not dedicated to this so much... I hope I can pick up and continue.. >< It's there almost pieces done. It need just sewing all the parts.. so when ready I will update and upload pattern.I didn't forget it. I will not give a time this time X3 EDIT 3: ok, I know , I still had not time to complete. The fact is that I've started many projects with clay and I'm sculpting my first doll and also learning tatting lace.. ahh...sooo many ideas to complete! But I will complete this dress too! It's still in my drawer and waiting also to be completed.I can't give a time but I want to complete also for me as well.So when ready for me , it will be uploaded here everything. I don't give up!
Your sewing resizing was a great idea! I plan on doing this in the near future. Thank you for sharing your experience!
I print patterns using 33% or 25 % printer scale. 33 % for 1/3 bjds and 25% for fid size . Of course the patterns need some corrections. but it works.
