I made a hat for my Dollshe David yesterday and wanted to share how I did it. First I made a paper hat band to the size I needed to fit his hair and head. I taped a another piece of paper to hold the band into a oval shape like the pattern I wanted to enlarge. Then I measured the long side of the oval. My found pattern was small so I calculated the ratio that I needed to enlarge the pattern so it would fit my doll. The diameter of my doll's head measurement divided by the measured diameter of my found pattern times 100 gives me the percentage I need to enlarge the pattern. I have a Brother scanner/printer that allows me to key in a percent increase of the scan. So I put my printed too small pattern on the scanner and keyed in the percent increase I needed. The enlarged pattern was used to make the hat shown in the pic below and it fits! Yay! Found a hat pattern and resized it to fit my Dollshe David by Linda, on Flickr more pics of my Dollshe David wearing the hat here I usually glue but this time I hand sewed the hat and it was much easier than gluing and looks nicer too. I found the stiff felt last September at a chain store in the Halloween section so this is a good time of year to look for hat making materials.
Thank you! I love my dolls so it is a great joy to share them with others in photos. It is so much fun to day dream and let my imagination run free.
