How to post a picture?

Jun 1, 2005

    1. hi guys,

I'm not very good with the pc..i just know my way around the internet and i can use type a letter..but how do you guys post a picture that opens in the topic?

This might be asked before..but I'm asking again can any1 tell me how to do that?

      Thank U!!

    2. hey first you need to get a picture host

www.photobucket.com is good, you can sign up with them.

then after you have your own account, you can upload pictures, there will be a link that you cut and paste in your message.

    3. Make sure to use the tags that have "IMG" in it instead of "img src".

    4. Im not really understanding what exactly you have to cut and paste? Help?
I tried adding the URL link but I only get a prompt not an actual picture? What am i doing wrong?

    5. Try the IMG tag :)

Well if you're just making a link, it'll just show you the URL... to make it an image i guess you use

      <img> http://www.whatever.com/file.jpg </img>

      replacing < > with [ ]

    6. I did you the IMG tag this time and it doesnt do anything? Help?

      http://www.thedollpage.com/photopost/data/500/565000_2615.JP<[img>[/img]

    7. Help! Please, could someone tell me what I need to do in order to post the photos that I downloaded from my digital camera? I've downloaded them into a file on my computer, now what!? :?

Please keep it real basic, and tell me step by step, just pretend you're telling your Great, Great, Aunt Lulu how to post a picture. Because...
I don't speak computer or techspeak, and everything I've managed to learn about and learn to do on this computer has been pretty much self taught, usually through a great deal of trial and error and much frustration. Lastly, for every one thing I've managed to learn to do on the computer, there are at least two more I couldn't figure out!

 When explaining something, just consider me to be severely technologically challenged! :? *_*

      Thanks

    8. First, you need to sign up for photo hosting. Try Photobucket (its free):

      http://www.photobucket.com/

Then you upload your photos there.
Once they are there, you copy and paste the tags that start with into your posts here, and the pictures should show up.

I do know, however, that this has been posted here before.

    9. Thanks, for the info. I appreciate it, I'll try this photobucket, and see if I'm sucessful!
I'd checked on here and the gallery site, but only found one post that was talking about <Img> and changing it to , etc. but I couldn't make any sense out of it. :?
That post didn't say anything about using photohosting sites, either, which is probably part of the reason it didn't make sense.
Sigh... I've just started posting on a few forums, and everyone is so computer savvy... it seems they could do this stuff in their sleep! Half the time I don't have a clue what they are talking about! I'm so envious! :love

    10. No one knows until someone takes the time to teach them. Don't worry about it.

    11. Photobucket resized my photoes, making them too small.

Is there any other place I can upload photoes to, and put here as same-sized images?
Putting up links from deviantart just doesn't feel right...

      Any help would be appreciated.

    12. Photobucket is a reliable and free host for Non-Adult images - the resizing issue is something that you are doing to the image before you upload them. Why don't you share your workflow with us and we can spot where something needs to be changed. :)

    13. Or something you're not doing! :D In the options for your account in Photobucket, you can select a maximum size for your images. If what you were trying to upload has a filesize larger than that, Photobucket will automatically shrink it down. Try resizing your photos beforehand or changing the size limit for your account!

    14. You're probably accidentally saving your pictures as a Bitmap or BMP or something along those lines. Photoshop always resizes bitmaps because they are too large of a file. Just make sure, that before you save your photos and upload them, that they are saved as a JPEG or JPG. That should take care of the problem.

I know because I had the same problem until my boy corrected it for me! :D

    15. As an alternative, you could try photo album services such as Flickr. Their only condition is that you'll have to link the image back to the Flickr site, but other than that there are no restrictions as far as I know (:

    16. Hi, Wonder if someone would be kind enough to give me some pointers because I am very new at sharing photos. I would like to know how some people can get such large, detailed photos to show in their replies. I'm getting frustrated because when I go to attachments with my replies, my Flickr URL is invalid or files are invalid! I know I'm using the correct URL from my Flickr photo share site and I can't resize these pics any smaller!:...(

    17. hi
you don't need to use attachements, you can just enter the url in your post. then preview to see if you have the right one and then post.

    18. The attachments is for uploading a file to DOA and having DOA host it. Likely Flickr doesn't allow something to transfer the file like that. As maggot said, you want to just click the picture icon, and put in the link to your photo, rather than attach it.

    19. Hi,

I've been on DoA for awhile, but really haven't posted. I'm trying to become more active here(busy Mom of 4!) Anyway, I tried to post a pic in the LaTi Green Wtih Envy thread and it didn't show up. My dolly pics on Flickr on private, but I did make the one I wanted to post public(just today) I'm wondering if that's the problem?

      Thanks for any help!

    20. Hey, im gonna borrow this thread if i can, what about photobucket? all pics ive tried to post from there dont show up, they just appear as those boxes with red xs in :(

    21. I have been posting on DOA for a while and I noticed that some people are able to get their photos to appear rather large in their threads. Currently I link to my photos on Flikr and my images are always pretty small and I can't find a way to make them appear larger on the DOA site.

I have been searching for a thread from the past on this topic but I am sorry I can't find one. I am sure there is one somewhere :) Can someone advice me or link me to a thread about posting nice photos on DOA.

      Thank you.

    22. There's probably an easier method but this works for me.

      1) In Flickr, click on the 'all sizes' text just above your photo.

      2) Now you should see various available sizes above your photo. Choose your preferred size small, medium or large. The page will refresh when you choose your new size.

      3) Below your photo you will see two boxes numbered 1 and 2. You need box 2 which is titled 'Grab the photo's URL:'

      4) Copy the HTML in box 2 and enclose that HTML within the image tags where you want your image to appear in your post, e.g.

Note the trailing slash in the end IMG tag. PM me if you get stuck and I'll try and help :)

    23. are you using the image code petitefilou?

    24. OK so I did a few searches in here for this and I haven't found anyone having this same problem. Since it involves photos, am posting here. I might just be exceedingly dumb and missing something though.

Anyway, the problem: I can't get photos to post in threads anymore through flickr. Long-time user, pro acct, never had any probs before, blah blah blah.

I've noticed that they're doing a new photo page; used to be I'd go into the "all sizes" option, and the url would be at the bottom of the page, under the html for the pic. Now, when I pull the url from the little drop down menu and put it in a thread with the img tags, nothing shows up.

So, I ask: has anyone else encountered this problem? Am I being really thick here, not seeing what's right in front of me? Or do I need to go back over to photobucket when I want to actually post pics in a thread here?

Thanks in advance. a chocolate for you: :truffle

    25. Weird. I use Flickr when I post pictures here, and on LiveJournal, and I haven't had this problem. :?

What I do, is I click the Action, then View All Sizes, then after selecting the size I want to post, I just right click the image, select Copy Image URL, then stick that in between the tags or HTML codes.

Like, let's say I want to post this picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thepatdes/4834292805/

I go to Action, then View All Sizes, and select Medium 500.
      http://www.flickr.com/photos/thepatdes/4834292805/sizes/m/

Then, right click the image, copy its URL, then stick it in the tags.

    26. That used to work for me, but doesnt anymore in newFlickr.

    27. I found this Greasemonkey script that adds the HTML and BBcode to embed a photo, complete with a link back to flickr, if anybody uses Greasemonkey. First one I've found that works with the new layout.

    28. Sorry if this topic doesn't belong here. I tried to make a post at Newbieland but It said I didn't have enough privileges or something. Which is weird because I've posted in every single area of the forum except that one I think.
But anyways, I'm having some trouble with uploading my arrival pictures. Blogspot doesn't work in my computer for some strange reason, so I tried uploading them in Flickr so I would have URLs to give DOA when I tried to upload them here.
But the Flickr links won't work! I wrote down the URL of each pic I posted on Flickr and no pic appears! Just that obnoxious little red cross signaling there's no pic or something. :doh

I was wondering if someone could help me out to figure out how to work with Flickr or tell me about some other webpage where I can upload my pics with no problem.

      Thanks a lot guys!

    29. On Flickr you have to click on the action tab rather than the share this one. Then go down to all sizes, pick the size of the pic you want and pull the picture up to the address bar on your computer--it should automatically put the address there. Copy it and then click on the inside image tab here and paste it in. Just make sure you haven't doubled the http://

    30. Chibimanager ~ You must actually "be" a newbie to post in Newbieland. ;)

This software uses an [ IMG ] code to upload the photos - is that the code you're grabbing? Many members use PhotoBucket.

    31. Thanks a lot to both of you! I already fixed the problem on Flickr XD
I'll also consider Photobucket as Plan B if any problem arises :3

      I really appreciate it!

    32. Okay, so I have literally tried EVERY method of posting pictures. Every single one you suggested.
      1. I'm trying to post from my flickr account
      2. every time the whole formula thing converts itself into a box with a a torn piece of paper icon, so a broken link.

      please, please help me

    33. [IMG]

      how I did it:

right click on the picture on flickr, select one of the sizes ("medium" ) was selected here.
right click on the image on the new page and select "copy image URL"
come back to DoA to make your post, click the third icon from your right that's a tree in a box, when you hover it, it will say "image"
in the text box, right click and select "paste" that will paste your image URL.

voila :) image posted just like how I posted your image above.

    34. [IMG]

:oI did it! Laura, thank you!!!!!!

    35. :) no problem. You can right click and select "copy url" from any image on any website where right clicking isn't disabled. This doesn't mean you should XD *shakes finger at art thieves*
but if you wanted to pull things of your dA or wherever, you can also do it there :)

    36. oh good, than you :)

    37. don't feel to bad. I am in the same spot. One day I will get it to lol

    38. Mods this may be in the wrong place I have searched and can't find the answer on DOA.
Please delete/ remove if you think it is not relevant.
I use Zoom Browser to host my pictures. I copy and paste the URL and the picture appears. After about two days it vanishes and a x appears in its place.
It is still in my album on Zoom Browser, I have not exceeded my allowance only using about 5%.
If I copy and paste the URL it appears again immediately for another two days.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated, its driving me mad!!!!
      Thanks

    39. sounds like your host isn't set up for hot linking, and changes your image URL periodically to avoid people doing hotlinking. It's probably just for image storage.

use a host like photobucket or flickr instead.

    40. OK, I'll give it a try. Copied image address (URL) from medium photo on flickr, adding it to the Image link box and...

Boom-badda-bing! it worked! Finally - a photo of my new Narae N416. Thanks to everyone (esp Knibitz) for the great tips.

Edit: the only thing is, doing it this way doesn't link the photo back to Flickr. Back to the drawing board.

    42. I want to upload my babies' photos. This thread helps me a lot. Thanks!

    43. I use a site called imgur which lets you upload a pic from your computer. You just upload the photo you want then choose size (i find large thumbnail best for in posts). You then copy the linked BB code then paste it into your post. Hope this helps :)

    44. I just joined Flickr, figured out how to get a picture from email to Picassa to Flickr, and uploading from Flickr. I think it worked! Thanks for the help!

    45. I use flickr and normally don't have a problem. Once I figured out how to do it, it was easy.

    46. I had trouble using Flickr. After reading the other post, it is very easy.

    47. Anyone know how to post here from Google Photos??

    48. TomB - I would like to know this as well.

About posting links from Flickr. I've followed every instruction given with absolutely no success. All of the instructions so generously shared here are from several years ago. Has Flickr updated and radically changed? Am I so dense? Probably the latter but sure would appreciate any help.

    49. Thank you for this tutorial! it was really helpful ♥

    50. This seems a good thread to give this a try in - I've been having difficulties as well.

      Here goes
