I'm ready to ship my original doll head and a pair of hands to China to be cast by Fdoll. They are made of paperclay, coated in primer. I know it's somewhat foolhardy to ship the originals, but that's what I'm doing. For those of you with experience, how did you wrap your sculpts for successful shipping? Which shipping company did you use? (I'm in the USA) I asked Fdoll for their suggestions and they said, "Pack it softly" !!! So, I guess I'm on my own here! Thanks for any tips you can give.
Hmm, if it's really delicate, just to be extra safe I'd wrap the pieces individually in some fiber fill stuffing and then wrap that in lots of bubblewrap, tape securely, and then wrap it all up together in more bubblewrap, and fill any remaining spaces with foam beans or scrunched up shipping paper. Can't help with the shipping (Canada), but I'd also probably choose express/EMS with insurance and tracking. Might be expensive but it always seems to be the safest.
Thank you Crowtree. I did the things in your suggestion plus put it all in a box within another styrofoam-peanut packed box so that there was about three inches of padding and cardboard layers between the clay pieces and the outermost box. Going EMS it cost about $40, which was okay. UPS wanted to charge $200 for the same package!
