I’m getting a doll head that has a neck size of 9.6 and the body I wanted to use is 11.1 which is too big. I will be getting a body that has a neck size of 10.1 which is closer - is it going to be possible to modify that body to fit or should I look for a body with a smaller neck size? If a smaller one will be better can anyone recommend a male body to fit a 20cm head with a 9.6 neck size- fairly slim but not too young looking and good to pose. The doll head is a Wei Jiujiu and it has dimples so when I saw it I had to get it . It’s supposed to be a girl head but oh well - it will work for a boy too.
I am on team modify. If the head is an absolute keeper, I would make the neck hole bigger on the head and adjust neck length on the body if needed. I on the same boat with one boy. but in my case, the head is significantly rare and pricier but the body is significantly lower quality and cheaper and mass produced, AND its neck is thicker towards the top, I am modding the neck on the body by cutting and sanding down.
The head isn’t pricey as such ( £75 second hand with a COA) but it’s the only one I’ve seen that matches what I want and with dimples and a smile so I had to get it. It will arrive probably on Saturday and I won’t have the body for ages because I was hoping it would fit on the one I already had but there’s no chance so it will have to wait for the new one but that’s on layaway so it’ll be next year. Mind you I will need to send the head off for a faceup anyway so I have time. Once the head arrives I’ll see how it looks and also measure it to see how big the hole actually is. I’ll try and add a photo of the head and of the person it hopefully resembles. I will be getting darker eyes with smaller pupils I think.
I own a bunch of (large) floating heads and a single large body they all share. Because it belongs to the default head sculpt, I chose to modify the neck opening on all my floating heads mainly due to that. I also prefer more realistic neck thickness so, I would recommend modifying the neck opening on the head sculpt, if you want a less bobble headed look. Of course, it is a matter of personal preference, and sometimes the head doesn't give any room for widening/deepening the opening, due to how it was sculpted (or if it's a face plate). Waiting until you have both in hand, is probably better, so you can see which would work for you. Either mod is relatively easy, regardless. Good luck! (:
Thank you. Yes once I get the head I’ll be able to see how it’s made. I’ve never tried to modify any dolls before so I’m glad to hear it’s not horrendously difficult. I definitely don’t want a bobble headed look
