I want to start making new stuff, but I always end up chopping off some of the fur, instead of the fabric base. ;_;
Here's what i reccomend, take your fur and flip it over so the knit side is up and the fur side is down. then, trace your pattern out on fabric (with chalk or a fabric washable pen) then get an exacto knife and cut along the traced lines. this worked really well for me, even though my fur wig making was unsucessful,(just couldn't get the pattern right) i did cut the fur nicely without choping off the fur itself. ops: ~Erin
What eptrauma said is what I do! I also find that the tiny manicure scissors work well. Also, when you're sewing, I recommend brushing the fur so the hairs go towards the center of the piece before pinning pieces together. And when you're brushing the hair along the seams, a fine toothed comb helps get all those tiny hairs!
Something else you can do is, turn the fur fabric side up and use a cutting wheel, my mom has one (so thus I nabbed it) with a 'healing' cutting mat, and that wheel cuts through almost anything...I also agree with 'grooming' the fur away from where you want to cut...It will help you cut along the right line... Good Luck and happy sewing..
yes! brush the fur out of the way if you dont then it can get stuck in the seams and soemtimes its hard to get it out
