How to choose the right size props!

Jun 5, 2011

    1. If there is a thread on this topic, I am sorry because after searching I could not find one. I was wondering how do you know what size props to get for your dolls for the photo shoots. I have seen the beautiful photos here on DoA with all the beautiful pieces of furniture and accessories and have no idea how to determine size in relation to the doll. All the photos are so in proportion that they look real. Please help!

    2. SDs are 1/3 scale, MSDs are 1/4 scale, and I think YOSDs are 1/6 scale, so try to look for props in those scales.

    3. I have seen these numbers before but I do not know how to apply them. If I was trying to buy props for an 18 inch doll, how tall would a table or chair have to be to be in proportion to the dolls height. I'm sure this is a very stupid question, but I have tried to figure it out and have not been able to.

    4. You take the height it would be for a person size, and divide it by whatever the scale is. For example, a six foot long sofa for me would be two feet for a 1/3 scale doll, and about one and a half feet for a 1/4 scale doll. Just measure where a table or chair should be on a person, and that's (proportionately) where it should be on a doll.

    5. Thanks so very much! That makes sense -what an idiot I am. I guess when looking at the photos I've seen with everyone's dolls the proportion of the props to the dolls seems smaller so I thought that because of the photography angles the proportions were different. Thanks TorTor and Suuchan for the great help and your patience.
