I was thinking about this a few minutes ago while I was dressing Kyoharu back into his pjs that I just washed last night. lol And I started to wonder--how often does everyone else wash their boys/girls and their clothes? I know most everyone washes the V-Jeans, and other jean material in fear of it staining, but I also mean other clothes. -I try to wash my boy at least once every two weeks, as I am very hands on and like to carry him with me a lot. -His clothes I tend to wash when I notice that they are starting to get dirty looking. EDIT: Sorry I wasn't really clear with this but what I meant was: Wash the doll = Magic Eraser them. lol Washing the clothes = Hand wash with soap.
I've never washed any dolly clothes, actually, now that I think of it. My dolls are very gently treated, not dragged around all that much, and I don't have many dark colored clothes. Nothing's stained yet. I've actually never restrung a doll and gave the whole thing a good scrubbing. I was all second hand dolls when they arrive with a Magic Eraser. Otherwise I pull out the eraser whenever I notice that there's something on the doll. I really need to take my oldest girl apart, scrub her, and put in new elastic. She needs it like woah. But I'm afraid to take her apart
I've never needed to actually wash doll clothing. (Other than setting dark colors--which I've mostly avoided for Claire by just having her wear the white underclothes included with her navy stock uniform.) I think I would be more likely to spot-treat if there were stains, or even take to my crazy and awesome dry cleaner if it were really bad. However, just a run in the washing machine is less likely; I don't own any doll clothing that I think could withstand that kind of washing very well, and I don't own an iron to press things after washing. I don't really "bathe" my dolls. I never needed to for Claudia or any of the others, and Claire hasn't been out of her box long enough to really pick up any dirt. I would be more likely to wipe down with a damp washcloth than actually bathe, but I presume that's what most doll owners mean by "bathe."
I don't ever use water on a doll unless they get really dirty. Most of the time I "dry" clean them using a Magic Eraser. I thought about tossing my dolls' dark clothes in the wash but I am afraid they will shrink or something bad will happen to the fabric!
I used a magic eraser for the first time recently, and my dolls are four years old! I thought they had started to yellow but it turned out they were just dirty--a little magic eraser and they were good as new. ^^ I was on a roll, so I washed their clothes for the first time too--the white ones were noticeably dirty.
I probably should try washing the lines the pants made on my B&G Afra >.> But I think they would just come back anyway. Besides him, none of my others really have any markings that need cleaning.. so it's pretty rare I wash them~ As for cleaning clothes, I haven't done that once yet. I don't really see a point in doing it unless something is spilt on them or they get really dusty.
I only got my first doll on the 2nd, last Wednesday, but already I've unstrung him, washed him down in a white utility bucket, magic erasered him, and had restrung him the next day after he dried out completely. The reason? His black pants leave this black fuzzy-like crud EVERYWHERE. In his joints, all over his legs, even INSIDE his legs, and I wasn't going to stand for it. His hands still need some magic eraser, but I lightly blushed his hands and they aren't MSC'd yet, but tomorrow I'll get down to that. His clothes will get washed as soon as I get some white vinigar. Untill then, I'm just dealing with the black crud, and he needs new longer elastics anyways, so unstringing and restringing him is good practice. ^_^
I washed my Song a couple of weeks back because he was really dirty-took him apart and the works. Did my Sprite as well. Danica, my DIM Sergei, got washed about a month back after I did a full body sand on her. Haven't washed the SDs yet. I haven't washed the doll clothes yet, but most of them are recently sewn and not dirty. I do pre-wash all the fabric, with vinegar if it's dark stuff. I should say I've had the Sprite for about ten months now and the Song about eight. So I don't do it often.
Unless it's something that won't wash (like a special type of fabric, etc.) I hand-wash all clothes before I use them. Same with synthetic wigs. Following that, they don't ever really get washed again. My dolls don't ever really go outside, I don't do many photoshoots, they don't sweat (lol), I... just don't need to wash them, really! ^_^ As for the dolls themselves, they get taken apart and scrubbed every once in a while. Probably not as often as they should be ^^;
Unless there is VISIBLE dirt on the doll, I don't bother. The most I do is blow dust off their faces. Clothes I don't wash either, though I am hoping I can stumble on a Clorox bleach pen ... an orange soda bottle eraser stained the lace trim on a dress and turned it NEON YELLOW. I would leave it, but it's not evenly stained. (Maybe it would be easier to just stain all the lace than find a bleach pen.) I have yet to have an article of clothing stain a doll, including jeans and dark wigs. My oldest doll is almost six years old and she's not even all that dirty. I don't think it's really very necessary to wash anything unless you're mucking about in mud puddles and dead animals. Or live animals with bladder problems.
*considers* I probibly wash mine alot more than most people because I do Aesthetics work and i'm always changing faceups on my dolls. But for straight up play They get fully taken appart scrubbed and cleaned out about twice a year, OR after any big meet or convention, because i'm always really open about people being able to pick up my dolls and hold them. So hand grubbies get on. The one that gets the most baths is my little fee because he gets played with the most and hes white skin. So he gets a once over probibly once every two months. clothing I only wash if theres a very good reason. I got some chocolate on the sleeve of one of his little coats during some event, and i scrubbed that and washed it off. but other than that I don't usually put much in the wash unless i'm treating blue jeans and denim to keep it from fading.
I had a bunch of American Girl doll clothes that I found in the basement. They smelled mildewy, so I put them through the wash. That definitely taught me that should I ever plan to wash my more expensive BJD clothes, it's going to be by hand! I did get one pair of corduroy pants that were covered in fuzz, so I washed them in a lingerie bag on gentle and hung them to dry. They looked much better afterward! Like Sims, I'm a face-up artist, so I generally end up redoing my dolls' faces every summer. When I do that, they get completely stripped and scrubbed and then re-blushed and restrung after. But my dolls don't get handled a lot. When I was very actively taking photos of Caldera for a pageant, she very much needed a new face-up and body blushing after it was done.
I wash new dark clothes before they wear them, usually, and other than that only wash them if they're dirty. Those white button-ups can get grimy. The dolls themselves get any visible dirty spots wiped with a damp cloth or a magic eraser if needed, and once in a while I'll give them a quick all-over damp cloth wipedown. I have given the white skin dolls a complete magic eraser wipedown, but haven't done that to the others yet. I'm thinking I'll make that a once a year thing unless otherwise needed. I've not disassembled and scrubbed anyone yet, I think that will be a only-if-needed thing or done if someone needs a complete re-string.
I wash him whenever he changes into a new set of clothes, during this time I give him the once-over to see if there's any cracks or whatsoever, just to be aware. But if I see some black stains that manage to get on him during the time when he's not suppose to have his 'sponge bath', those will be scrubbed away immediately. I dont wash his clothes if they're are not dirty, so far none of his wardrobe have even been wash cuz' I was careful enough not to get them dirty when he's wearing them, though they probably need some good ironing...
I dont wash my doll's clothes. I keep them carefully wrapped in a box with lavender. I live in a 15th century house, so we always keep lavender and herbs to prevent moths or weird bugs ^^. I only wipe my dolls with warm water, but i never soap them or dip them.
I wash Shinta's clothes from time to time. Because I take him to conventions and just to keep everything fresh. I just tuck them in the laundry washer along with my own laundry. He's an SD, so his stuff isn't that small, more like baby sized.
I don't wipe my dolls down all that often because they are usually in my house. And if I do take them out it usually to a friends house. I do bathe them after meets though and check their wigs since bugs tend to like my dolls wigs for whatever reason, especially the tinee-tiny spiders. And I just throw their clothes into the washing machine with my clothes and I let them air dry.
The last time I really washed a doll (unstring and soapy water in a bucket) was two years ago. I used to like doing it to get rid of lint that inevitably gets stuck inside the joints, and back then I played a lot more with my dolls and they went outside, etc. That last time was for a neck mod and I was just doing a "full service". Nowadays, my dolls stay inside and don't get handled very much so I don't feel the need to wash them. I occasionally wash clothes...there was this one time when I tried to wash some extra dye out of a dark pair of MSD jeans. What do you know, it ended up staining the entire inside of my dryer...!
Most of my dolls only get scrubbed down with a magic eraser occassionally. They stay home and don't get very dirty. Shriara, my tiniest tiny, travels where ever I go and gets dirty. She is my bjd ambassador and gets handled alot. I usually check her for grime every week and keep a tiny piece of sponge in her wardrobe to clean her up. I will be washing her stockings this evening because they are grimy. I need to make her a second set of combinations so she has one to wear while the others are drying. I shampooed her wig 2 weeks ago because something sticky got in it.
I wash the clothes if I notice them staining or shedding. Other than that, I guess I don't think of it much. Most of the fabric I use has been pre-washed anyway. As far as cleaning HER... man I need to do it more often. If I'm changing her clothes and notice marks, I'm right on it with an eraser... but that girl gets so dirty in her joints and everywhere else... I just sometimes wonder if she goes hunting scorpions outside while I'm asleep or something. So much dirt! Even when I haven't taken her outside or anything! >.< And her body blushing rubs off so easily... I'm thinking that I seriously want to start de-stringing her and giving her a full bath about once a month or once every two months. Maybe I'll alternate months with her and Gael when I get Gael... >.>
The only time I've washed clothes was once that an icecream was involved and you know, accidents happens (also Murphy Law). My dolls don't go out very often, and they are very gently treated, so there isn't a real need to clean them, just once a year and because an insane obsession with cleanliness.
When I get a secondhand doll, I dissassemble it, clean it and reengineer it to my liking as needed. I haven't needed to really wash my dolls much because I don't handle them much at all. The exception perhaps is Nori (see avatar) who likes to take a dip in various local bodies of water and that always necessitates cleaning and thorough drying afterwards! If I am selling a doll, I've learned to make sure they aren't packed up for travel 'til they're spanking clean. People tend to expect perfection in this hobby! XD Washing clothes can ruin them, as most doll clothes aren't meant to be laundered! On the occasions I've had to clean outfits (arrived dirty or stinking of perfume/dryer sheets) I do so by hand using Twin Pines of Maine's Perk. Rinse in cold water and hang to dry. Raven
I have a question: I have my first doll incoming and I ordered some custom made clothes from spampy here on DoA. Everything I ordered is in dark colors, should I be washing them by hand before she arrives? Also, if I do it by hand, will a certain temperature shrink the clothes? I'm insanely OCD and quite the germaphobe, so cleaning is my thing... reading this post has made me want to go get a Magic Eraser... and my dolly hasn't even arrived yet! O_O (P.S. You can Magic Erase if you've gotten a factory face-up because they're protected, yes?) (P.P.S. I never meant to insinuate that spampy's clothes are anything but completely fabulous! I'm in love! I just don't want to see any staining because I didn't take precautions. Thanks!)
Never really wash my dolls or their clothes. They all tend to stay in the house and don't get dirty often. Wigs tend to get washed only if I notice they are dusty. I get too paranoid about staining so the girls never wear dark clothing for long and get washed well after wearing anything.
I've never washed my girls clothes (I've had her for less then a year).. She is never out to where they need to be washed. Plus I'd be to lazy to wash them by hand. And you never know how things would turn out if I put them in the washer/dryer. Haha. XD I wash my girl on occasion. And by "wash" I mean wipe her down with a wet towel and a lil bit of soap. It would probably be good if I did that soon. I haven't in a while actually. Lol. But yeah. Again, I'm not out and about with her much, she usually just stays siting on my shelf. So she doesn't need much cleaning. I don't think anyways. o Ao
I need to wash a few pieces of theirs... mainly just the ones they wear all the time... like jeans and blloomers. I've never washed any of their stuff but I know some of their stuff needs a good wash. as for cleaning them. I try to do it at least once a month... but a lot of times I just don't have time. but when I notice they're getting dirty I will clean them. I probably should clean them soon... normally I just check if my WS BBB is dirty because he shows dirt the most and I bet he's dirty.
I try to keep the doll clothes in a best of a condition as possible, so I have never washed any of them. However, there is a white shirt that attracts black fuzz, so I need to figure out a way to wash that with all of it's delicate lace and pin-tucks and whatnot. As for the dolls, I coat their entire bodies with MSC, and every few months, I'll remove that and recoat them. Last time I did this was in the summer, so once I'm off from school, both of my MSD's will be getting this treatment again, haha. There's some fabric that I washed before making clothes out of it, and it still "stained" one of my dolls (thank god it came off), so coating them with spray is what I trust the most, and I don't even bother with washing the clothes anymore (unless it's to see if fabric shrinks).
Never use a magic eraser over a faceup or body blushing... even if it's sealed!! The magic eraser is great for cleaning dolls, but eventually it WILL wear off the MSC and then the faceup. Don't do that!!! ::phew:: (It *is* an abrasive, altho a mild one... it still adds up.) On a separate note... a nice soft washcloth soaked in water and a mild dish washing liquid (I like "Joy", it's very mild and non-abrasive) and applied very lightly will do wonders for cleaning a doll... a Magic eraser will take off things that the washcloth can't get. Also, ask anyone who makes you clothes to wash the fabric BEFORE making the outfit for you. If it's a store bought outfit, and needs washing then do it by hand in a mild solution, and hang it to dry. Not trying to sound bossy... just sharing my experiences. I learned the hard way, and don't wish it on anyone.
I wash my boys clothes in pretty hot water and haven't had a problem. I've even let them soak in really hot water and still nothing has shrunk. lol I wouldn't go over their face with the eraser, as I read somewhere it acts like a "buffer" and -might- end up taking the face up off. Then again though I'm so paranoid about my boys face up [the one in my icon. ] I don't touch it at alllllllllllll evvvveeeerrrr. lmao
I haven't bathe my doll yet but I did wash some of his clothes (caused by accidental stains during doll meets, unfortunately, and it ranges from either food to grass / soil T_T).
Wellllll........ I actually don't have any yet but I am getting a few For Christmas. And I bathe my friends BJD's clothes only once though =( But when I get mine I will bathe her clothes before dhe were's them and then about every two weeks too =3
If clothes are noticeably dirty or there's been a dust storm I'll put them in a lingerie bag and throw them in with my washing. I've also cleaned by dolls with a damp cloth after dust storms.
honestly the dolls only get a wash when they appear dirty to me, and the clothes only when they are dirty, or in need of an iron. It is not like my dolls are out there getting mucky or sweaty and stinky so I don't think they need it that often
once a month for the doll, and the clothes, depend if they are dirty or not ~ usually i just rearrange the clothes so it look tidy.
Never. The fabric I use to make their clothes is washed before I use it, and if I'm really worried I'll make a body suit or line the clothing in white. I spot clean the boys with a magic eraser if they do pick up a smudge or something, but I don't 'wash' them.
My dolls are still new so I haven't needed to do so (and way to afraid to that I might ruin them). I have only one outfit that I bought & it is in pristine condition. When it does come time to wash the outfit/them, I will do so very carefully (and try not to get to intimidated by it ).
for the dolls, I use a soapy wash cloth and warm water if it's just dirt. It's it's more I use either a stain sponge(I believe some call them magic erasers) or acetone if it's really bad. (One of my dolls got smacked with a sharpie marker recently and it was definitely acetone time.) The clothes... well... It depends on what they're made of. If they're cotton or jersey or the like, I put them in a langerie bag and throw them in the washer on a delicates cycle. If they are silk or brocade or something made from antique fabric... I either carefully hand wash them or stain treat them, spritz them damp and then throw them in my dryer with a wet towel and a Dryel home drycleaning kit.
Erm, I've not washed my dolls...but one of them is brand new and the other is more than a year old, but she spent most of her time in the covered bookshelf so she's clean...except for the occasional stain that I erase... I washed her stockings though, when I first bought them.
I try to do a dolly day every week or other week XD I'll wipe 'em down with a magic eraser if there's even anything there, and maybe restring their legs or arms if something feels loose~ I handle my dolls a lot (*cough* about everyday lol) and Miwa's legs always seem to get noticeably dirty somehow. but for my poor Nori his pants somehow always stain him even if they are from really old jeans I've worn and washed a bunch ._.
My guys get washed before meetups, so about once a month. Its only a wipe-down with a wash cloth though, found out the Magic Eraser was actually leaving slight sanding marks on my biggest girl's body from always wiping it the same direction o_o I actually don't really wash their clothes at all. Brand new things I didn't make myself get washed before going on them, but thats it. And wigs get washed a few times a year, because it helps reset the curls on some of them.
Well... Guess I bath my boy/wash his clothes as they get dirty? Since I don't really have a schedule or make a routine of it. For my doll, I clean him as I notice he's got stains, and every few months I remove the MSC coating and apply a new one (there are some stains that won't go away even with a Magic Eraser, hence I always MSC coat my doll). If it's his clothes, I wash them as they get dirty - which can be after a month or after I take him out for some photos. ...But the one thing I haven't contemplated doing yet is washing his wigs. I've already ruined a couple, so I'm not sure on how I should wash them (some research is due on my part on this).
I don't. They'll only get washed when they're dirty and since I'm really careful with them and hardly play, they haven't so far.
I dont really feel like I need to wash them except if they are really messy or because I feel like them when I change their faceup.... Now I answer this when my 2 dolls are in a bath of soap and hot water xD I just needed to clean everything in my room and they are part of it =P Also, I feel the need to wash second hand dolls.... you never know where they were before and it creeps me out a little.... just a little since it took a few months before I wash him xD For the clothing, I do not know how to was them so I dont... but I will do it at least once in a while when I know how XD
I never wahsed my dolls's clothing yet but they tend to get dirty on their arms or stains from their clothing so I brush over them with a sponge or magic eraser about 3 times a month. ^^ I never bath them regulary, though. Just if I want to blush them or after they arrive to get off all the resin dust.
I've actually never bathed them or washed their clothes before. o__o;;; I've just never had the need to, I suppose. I've only taken out my MSD boy once and it was to a hotel for a convention. They're always at home so they don't really get dirty.
I don't wash my dolls' clothes too often unless they're looking dirty. They do a A LOT of play time, and I usually wash their hands once a week. I often take them to work or the fabric store, and they get handled often. Somehow they get dirty faces, too. If we've been out taking pictures at the beach, I'll often wash them down before putting them in their PJs. My Lucien actually had to have a thorough cleaning yesterday: Somebody wet his bed, and it wasn't him. >_< (I suspect a certain small black cat who thinks she owns everything.) I had to wash his bedding and his jammies, and then scrub him twice! He's an Obitsu, so he's hard vinyl and can take the water. Poor guy. I was still a little stinky, so I sat him on my knee (above water) when I took a bath and washed him with a soapy washcloth. The steam against his vinyl caused condensation, and he actually looked like he was sweating. Seems to have worked, though. But I don't think he'll want to have another bath for quite some time.
I just wash my dolls when they get dusty & do the same with the clothes. Everything needs a little freshening from time to time.
My dolls I just check over generally once a month or before and after a meet to see if they are dirty. They don't get very dirty. Clothes, unless I've made them and washed the material before hand, they don't get washed except for spots I notice. I don't trust washing things if I don't have to.
My boy is taken apart and bathed at LEAST once a month. Other times they're cleaned with a wash rag or magic eraser. But I also have to hot-glue sued him often.
I often clean them with a magic eraser because no matter how many times you wash the clothes a little bit of staining can occur. Usually when I take them out I check them over and clean them up. As for clothes I wash the jean material clothing as soon as I get it and everything else I wash once and then only if they get dirty do I wash them again. There are so many small pieces that it would be easy to lose them if I was to wash them all the time. :3
never wash their clothes. never bathes Aiden. used to bathe seth all the time XD (hes white skin and i bought him second hand)
hmmmmm...I have soaked some of my boy's clothes and I used to magic eraser him once a week but now he gets cleaned maybe twice a month or whenever I notice he's really dirty....
I unstring my dolls and gave them a bath once per month or when they're really dirty, I actually like cleaning them, lols! XD As for clothes, I washes them if they got dirty or stained my dolls.
I've only actually washed a doll a couple times, and that was after taking them to a con or a meet. I don't take them out a lot though. And clothing... I've never washed their clothes. ^^; I'll run a tape brush over them if they're getting a little fuzzy, but they've never been thrown in the laundry!
My dolls only get cleaned if they get dirty, which is... I dunno, 2-3 times a year. I never wash their clothes. If something gets linty I lint-roller it, but otherwise their clothes don't get dirty.
I only seriously bathe my dolls when they get restrung, or before there being sold. Usually just a wipe down with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser solves any stains that need to be cleaned off.
I may be a bit of a clean freak. My dolls get bathed once a week or right after they have been outside. I wash them with a soapy wash cloth and I only use soap that is safe on the resin. The magic eraser gets used when I notice little smudges on them. I wash theirs clothes and wigs frequently as well, after they have been wearing them for a bit or if I have taken them outside. I feel that even if my dolls don't go outside, they and their clothes still need to be washed frequently. I mean after all I handle my dolls, and even if I constantly wash my hands, stuff is still going to get on my dolls. Also if they are sitting around in the house, they are inevitably going to get dust and dirt on them. Even though it isn't all that noticeable, it's still there. They also can pick up germs too, like if I touch my dolls when I am sick, this is to prevent from making myself sick again once I have gotten better.
Gee, I feel like a filthy swine with all the folks washing their dolls all the time... I can't imagine myself washing them at all, unless there is some catastrophic soiling, like falling into a puddle during a photoshoot - but why would I allow that to happen? For everything else there is spot cleaning with Magic Eraser. All my dolls have sophisticated blushing, I wouldn't want to damage it with this constant scrubbing. As far as clothes, I don't use staining fabrics for my dolls, and blue jeans get a vinegar treatment beforehand.
