How much do you photoshop?

Jul 6, 2010

    1. For your own doll pictures how much do you photoshop and what features do you use? do you just lighten and crop your photos or do you go all out with other options?

    2. Well there is a thread here to see how much people edit their photos. Though it doesn't say what they use, but you can see how they changed the image.

    3. oh well i would like to know what programs they used to so is it okay if this stays open or?

    4. I think you'll find the question of which particular image editing programs people use quite comprehensively covered in this thread.

    5. I mainly use it to adjust exposure / color temperature / contrast.

I tend to compose the shot when taking the photo and rarely crop afterwards.

So far I haven't had to toy with other options yet, but I'm not against using it when appropriate.

      I use Photoshop. ^_^

    6. ah thank you xynsta ^^ maybe i wasnt specific enough but I meant which programs you use inside of photoshop, such as color changing or brightness, sharpen etc./

    7. I'm guilty of using PS too much XD But it makes my photos much prettier to look at ;3
Anyways, I always use, curves/gradient maps/sharpen/blur/color balance and whole lot of other thingies.

    8. Ohhh. I see.

I mainly use the Camera Raw dialogue box (only applicable if you shoot in raw) but otherwise I'll be using

      curves
      levels
      hue/saturation

as bread and butter tools. :d

    9. Pretty much all of the photoshoots I took for my doll to post in the gallery are cropped and sized down to fit browser view. Personally I just like natural lighting and these photoshoots are taken outdoors. The only time I'll photoshop them is when I take pics in the evening in the house with lamp lighting. That's usually when I just want to show off something like a new dress or accessory.

    10. I generally adjust curves, duplicate layer and blur it by like 30, then set that layer to soft light, merge down, sharpen by 20.... Same as I do with most of my photos.

    11. i use PS all the time!!! i love it soo much! i find myself just using "quick fix"! it does soo much! = D

    12. I crop and play with light and color :3

    13. I go into Picasa (which is where I end up taking my pics off my memory card), and do some sprucing up. Then, I go into Photoshop Elements, and do a little more.

Though, I'm not very well-versed in Photoshop in general, so I doubt I'm using it to it's fullest potential.

    14. All all all digital imaging needs to be processed through software.

The most important part of producing a strong image is getting the image you NEED in-camera first. :) But regardless of whether or not that image is going to be uber-processed, basic processing is still needed:

Sorting and discarding. No one needs 212 versions of the same shot. They just don't. Delete delete delete. Then save originals onto a portable harddrive. Save As the copy you're going to be working on and Save As a high-res version and a web-friendly version.

Image size. Industry standards for print is the way to go for web, too.

      Unsharp.

      Colour correction and Levels correction.

Clean up - remove stray hairs, blend dead pixels....etc..

      Border your image.

    15. Personally I don't do too much editing or any at all really, I like posting my pics the second they are complete because if a shot is good why do you need to edit it.

    16. Hi,
I was looking through the photoshop posts and ran across a broken thread in one of yours. Is it possible to update the link or has the page been deleted?

    17. I shoot camera RAW so everything must go through Photoshop or
at least ACR. My normal workflow is....
      Confirm white balance
      Straighten image
      tweak exposure
      crop
      resize for print or web
      sharpen.

    18. I just shared a video about how I'm editing my pictures. I mean, other doll owners' photos this time, because they sent me to edit their photos:))
I usually edit the exposure, pulling down the highlights, pulling up the shadows. I'm adding texture and a little clarity. I'm editing the colors and adding radial filters and vignette. I'm editing differently if I want to sell a doll or just taking photos of my owned dolls. With my owned dolls I'm adding different colors/filters, but if I want to sell, then the doll should be realistic, so I'm not adding filters or things like that.

    19. I don’t use photoshop at all. But I don’t have professional like photos because of that

    20. ^you don't make professional-looking photos in Photoshop, you compose them in-camera.

I personally greatly prefer Lightroom for editing photos. If you have an Adobe subscription, your subscription includes Photoshop and Lightroom both. Lightroom lets you do in a few clicks what it takes ages to do in Photoshop - you adjust color balance, hue/saturation for individual colors, exposure, temperature etc etc... all on one screen. Plus you have lots of options in Lightroom that is pretty complex to do in Photoshop - such as vignette. I've been using Photoshop for 10+ years and Lightroom is just a godsend after that, especially if you're editing lots of photos at once. The subscription is $9.99/month and it's worth every penny.
