    1. This is all about floating heads: the heads you received as gifts, the ones you bought, these never finished/half finished/fully grown personalities that don't have their own bodies or that need to share with the head 'that has it all'.

      Please count:
      * full heads only, the ones that have their own headbacks,
      * do not count faceplates.

      Thank you

    2. I don't have any yet so I chose 0 for now, but I did make an order recently from April Story that consists of only heads and should arrive in a couple months.

My biggest reason for choosing only heads for this particular order & character set is that I'll need to dye them, and I don't know how it will turn out yet. I wanted to only invest in the heads to ensure I can achieve the look I want before also purchasing bodies. If I can't, well... then I will have learned something without spending money on whole dolls! The strategy should work out well, because even if I can't get a perfect resin match on the bodies + dye later, their outfits have both turtleneck and gloves :kitty1

    3. I have roughly 19, although, I plan to have 5 or so of them to be permanently on busts. Some are event heads, others are another version of the head (sleeping, winking, or different overall expression). I like to have a variety of heads for practicing faceups, eye modeling, and for wig making.

    4. I guess I have five at the moment. Two are unique but may never get their own bodies. Two are alternate heads for my other dolls. Every time I look in the drawer I feel a little overwhelmed by the unfinished projects they all represent.

    5. I've got 5. I plan to sell at least 3. I like SD sculpts but don't like the size or cost so I've resorted to buying just the head of sculpts I like. I have more floating heads than I do, actual dolls!

    6. At the moment I have 5: 3 unoa face plates, conarium QingWu and Telesthesia doll Emperor Jun.

I am thinking of buying a body for one of the heads. So the number shoud go down. I feel so guilty, for heads lying without bodies.

    7. I am really tempted by 3 of Rainman's heads right now, but while the heads are pretty affordable (and come with faceups) the body I found that I like and that works with the heads is about 4x as much as the heads... so if I get any of them it's going to take me a long time before they're full dolls. If I cave and buy all 3 heads instead of just 1, I'll likely buy only one body that they'll share amongst themselves instead of making each of them into their own full dolls.

I currently don't have any full dolls or floating heads- just my one lonely faceplate.

    8. I had just one floating head for nearly two years before finally ordering him a body this week.

I personally don't like having floating heads. Having a doll project that I can't/haven't done much of anything with just makes me anxious. Typically if they stay without a body for six months to a year or so, I end up selling them. I wouldn't mind so much if I could have them share bodies with my complete dolls, but I can almost never do that effectively because my dolls are different sizes and skin colors.
The one floating head i've had for nearly two years has been my rare exception only because he was a grail sculpt for me since I joined the hobby and i'd likely never be able to find one again if I sold him. As for why I don't get bodies for floating heads right away, sometimes its a money thing (especially when it comes to SDs) but often times I'm just too indecisive about what body I should get them and/or too anxious if a hybrid will work. I dye the vast majority of my dolls these days so I want to be 100% certain i'll be happy with the bodies they'll have.

    9. I have a DD floating head. I was waiting for the mochi body to come out. I also have an SD head. For her, I need an older body, so I've been keeping my eye out on mandarake.

    10. Zero! I intend to never have floating heads. This is my 4th year in the hobby, and i am still sticking to that number. :)

    11. only floating head is a practice head so that i can practice faceups and play around with different faceup styles

    12. I have two at the moment. One I will be trading away within the next few months, the other is my practice head that I have no intention of giving a body to. Floating heads drive me crazy so I don't like getting just heads. I always get full dolls. I did get one floating head a while back, but he got a body very quickly.

    13. I have 3 with one on the way as well as an attempt to buy one before it gets sold.

I have my Feeple19 Juri head that I posted a faceup for a while back—I cannot find a decent body for her :pout:

I have two blank heads; a Feeple Nanuri 17 and a Luts Mia. The latter almost had a body but my friend wanted to keep it which was A-OK with me. She’s in NS so it won’t be terribly difficult to find another.

Lastly, I bought an Eragona head secondhand on IG. I only collect SD, but I’ve been in love with that doll since hellocreations (I think that’s the name) shared theirs on IG. I managed to find one secondhand last week and snatched her up. I now have to hunt for an MSD body :...(

    14. I have one but I just sold it!

    15. I have three so far! One needs a 69cm body, which for someone who has only ever had msd's is quite intimating and rather expensive. The other needs a 40cm body, but I need marketplace access to buy it since it's been discontinued. And last but certainly not least I need a body for my dc Hyman head, I'll probably get either a dc or dz body for him ^^

    16. I have four floating heads with all four having bodies ordered just not shipped. I have had a couple been waiting now for five months with no word when bodies will arrive.

    17. None, because seeing the posts about resin matching and so forth of trying to get a body makes me avoid any doll that doesn't come with a body. Honestly I was nervous about the first doll I got that was completely blank, no clothes, no faceup. I don't think I could stand the pressure of having only a head and having to get EVERYTHING.

    18. 0! I've order a head last year but choose to order a body for him 2 week after that. They are united now so go back to 0 floating head. Usually I would not order any head without plan to find a body for them. Hope to stick at 0 until the end of 2022:XD:

    19. I have 2 floating heads, bodies for them have been difficult to track down but hopefully by the end of this year they will both have bodies bringing my total back to 0.

    20. I've currently only got one and I haaaaate it!! I'm the type of owner who wants a doll completely finished within a couple of days getting home. If I don't complete dolls quickly, I don't bond with them. I also don't like hybrids for the most part, but I found this gorgeous head for a really low price and my sister got him for me for Christmas because he's the perfect 70cm version of my first doll, who is 1/4 scale and doesn't fit into my crew anymore. He's currently sharing a body with one of my other boys, but I want him complete so bad before I lose interest in him. I don't plan to buy any other floating heads, with one possible exception being having an alternate head for one of my dolls to switch back and forth on makeup styles.

    21. I have... 4? I think? I have been buying bodies lately so I had to mentally re-count XD I have another coming, but he'll have a bust to hang out on, so I'm not sure if that still counts as "floating" :XD: I don't like leaving heads floating, but sometimes I literally can't picture what body I want until I have them in-hand and can check them against other things I have.

    22. I have more than 27.... a lot more than I thought I did. In my case floating heads are by design. I like to have a variety of sculpts that is different where I can change them up once and a while. It make me feel like I have new dolls. I'm also limited on spaces so having a bunch of heads to share bodies with is my solution to space and wanting variety. Also, it doesn't help that I'm picky with body type and majority of the companies I do like don't sell head and body separately. Which mean the body I don't like end up being sold and another floating head to the collection :frownyblush:

    23. I’m currently at 25 floating heads, and I hate it, but I also don’t want to sell any of them. It will unfortunately be a long time before I can get them all bodies, because of them are Minifee heads, and their bodies are pretty expensive. Also not a fan of hybriding them, so that’s really not an option for me. sigh. Why do I do this to myself? :(

    24. Crazy head lady is back! I’ve not counted lately, but it’s more than 65. This is not as bad as it sounds. I usually get a spare for each of my sculpts, so I have those. Plus, four of mine are unique custom sculpts, for which I have ten casts each.

    25. Exactly 11–one or two (twigling Kahlo/Elbe) might take over some bodies I have laying around. 4 have incoming bodies (in the sense that 2 are ordered and 2 are on super extreme layaway) I have some incoming floaters too, mostly just my dsdoll Cat, a second obsidian twigling head so I can choose between 2 and Potentially 4 more floaters... so I’m going to need some bodies...

I also might wind up with 2 body sharers, because I may as well for lesser-known characters in the Shrike, when they’re all on the sameish body?

    26. 1 + 2 on the way

    27. I own 11 floating heads. Half I want to sell, the other half I want to complete.
I'm not bothered by floating heads and can keep heads in that state for years. Last year I complete a head that was a floating head for 5 years!

    28. I only have one. In general I hate having floating heads around because it always causes me no end of angst worrying about their need for a body, so I always try to resolve that issue asap. I purchased the one I currently have because she’s a limited sculpt I love. But in this case I’m still torn between having her as an alternate head for one of my existing characters or making her a unique character altogether. So for now she just remains a floating head...and the angst continues.:doh

    29. I don't have any floating heads. It would drive me a little crazy. I like to have my dolls and all the accessories as quickly as possible. Of course that never happens, it takes forever, so if I had to add finding a body for a floating head, that would add even more time. Having said that I've had an action figure floating head for years now and still don't have a body for him. Maybe I should do something about that!

    30. I have 3, I think. Unless one turns up that I forgot about, anyway. One is getting a body, asap, as he's a character and whatnot. One is a big-noggin Leeke that I'm not sure I'll be keeping. The last one, while I have no plans for him, he's my all-time favorite sculpt (including him, I have 3 of this same head :XD:) that was a gift from someone who was very dear to me. That head will be going in a box of his own and being put away because I can't bear to part with it.

But overall, I don't like having floating heads. If I have a head, it *needs* a body and needs to be someone, otherwise it just bugs me.

    31. I have three: Migidoll Cynical Ryu and Cynical Yujin, and a Miracle Doll Jing. I won’t be buying bodies for them anytime soon because I just don’t have the space. I missed out on buying Migidoll Ryu when it was available so I bought the cynical sculpt as the nearest thing. I also missed the Jing head but luckily I’ve now bought one secondhand.

    32. Ah, the pain of the floaters... I have seven in total and originally I was determined to keep some of them as such too, just sharing bodies among them but it was quickly all too apparent that the differences in their characters' body types/sizes just wasn't going to let me go down that route.

I have three SDs: Yoshiaki, my Souldoll Onulharu who will need a 65cm tall body, Yukihiko, my Switch Seolrok Somnia who will need a female to male body mod as he is supposed to be smaller, lighter and curvier than everyone but my actual girl, and Kohei, my 5th motif Venitu who needs a body to match his sheer size (as well as my giant Soom York who is the other member of his family xD )

That aside I need to get 2 male dollfie dream bodies for my four floating anime heads to share as they are the ones I feel more comfortable rotating given they don't have differences as dramatic as my big dolls do among them. Most of my SDs couldn't share a body if they wanted to! :sweat

    33. I had one until recently, but currently I am at 0 heads without bodies.

    34. I currently have 4 floating heads, with an event head that will be coming in. I plan on saving up and buying a body for my incoming Luts Bliss Sweety head this year. Hopefully I can also get a body for my Switch Ajeong head too, but it may not happen until next year.

    35. I actually don’t know anymore. I have a few from Fairyland and Luts that came with other purchases. And two that lost their bodies to event heads. I just kept them in the box and stored them in the closet. There is one floating head that I intend to give a body to. But I’m waiting until after the pandemic.

    36. Hmmmm want to say around 50, maybe a few more*_*
Half of them have face ups, and i've been buying bodies for them. Also been trying to avoid getting more heads:XD:
I'm close to finishing getting bodies for my Dollfie Dream heads. Will just have some resin & obitsu's to focus on afterwards.

    37. Currently nine, the most I've ever had. Three of them I will eventually sell or give away, but the other six I intend to complete. Why so many floaters? Most of them were only available as heads when I bought them (all but one secondhand), plus I actually like getting my dolls piecemeal and working on them over time as funds and interest dictate. I know that would drive some people crazy, but for me it's part of the bonding process. Half the fun is getting there!

    38. I still have a fair few that are never going to have bodies... They're spares (Sleeping versions and such-) that came with full sets, or event heads, or otherwise things that I have for "completeness"-sake (MiniFee Breakaways and Elf Yder, I'm looking at you-) rather than heads that I've ever had intentions of making into full dolls.

Everyone that *IS* intended to be a regular member of the crew has a bod at this point... Although two of the gang are on bods that I would eventually like to replace.

Chanter is on a DollFamily body at the moment, but I intend to get him a regular Luts Senior Delf body if I can find one the right age. He's an older Luts Winter event head, so a brand new bod's resin is unlikely to match well.

Saulot (Lati Chaim) is currently on an old CP/Delf body, which actually suits him pretty well as far as resin color and proportion goes... but I really want a proper Lati body for him. Eventually a white resin red-line guy will come up for sale somewhere, I'm sure. It's just a waiting game at this point.

So, while I may not have any Real Floaters, I'd say I have two heads that are Provisionally Embodied.

    39. Well, I finally did it. After 10 years, I bought a BJD head by itself at a doll meet. I'll have to make room for it before I can buy him a body, so or now he's hanging out in my closet with all my doll boxes.

How many floating heads do y'all have?

    40. If we're not counting a different head for the same doll (like sleeping face), then two! If I count the alternate heads, 4-7 (my wee owl has 3 or 4 faceplates).

    41. I've had a Luts event head from 2013 floating for 11 years. I've often considered selling it, but I strangely like having it on my shelf and looking at its serene face. The empty eyes look rather enigmatic too.

    42. I have...9 and soon one won't be a floating head so really 8. It's just a matter of getting either the money for bodies or finding the right body cough my foveo salmon white one cough

    43. I have one currently - a LUTS event head that I use for faceup practice, it will never get a body.

Eventually, I'll have another two floating heads. One of them is a full doll right now, but I'm turning the head into the alt head (sleeping version) of an open-eyed doll I already have at home; I don't need the body and will sell it eventually. And I have another head on preorder currently, when it comes home I will buy a body for it and add it to my crew.

    44. i have one floating head for 2 years because i just can’t find a body for her. The head is MSD sized but her neck hole is 8cm which is quite large and all the bodies i‘ve found are mostly 7cm.
Maybe one day the right body appears or i just go with a smaller neck circumference and just mod it.

    45. I currently have two! I started the year with 9 floating heads so Im very happy about the amount I have now :3nodding:

    46. Currently four...two Dollmore "b grade" heads of which I plan to use one for a proper doll, one pesky Dollshe hound who didn't sell, and one Fairyland who's going to need a custom order body because I'm not a fan of the Feeple60's posing and joints

    47. Currently two. I'd managed to get down to zero for a bit, which was thrilling, but then I preordered some limited artist heads in the last few months. The plan is that I'll get them bodies after I finish the dolls I already have.

EDIT: Actually, I have three! I have a Bobobie Apollo that I bought to be a practice head for faceups, so he was never intended to end up on a body in the first place.

    48. I have 13 floating heads, plus two heads that are technically floaters but have bodies on order.

    49. I have way more than 20, and they are giving me an enormous headache buying all those it's one of the things I mostly regret doing with my collection so they have to go sooner or later, better sooner.

    50. 2024 Update!
I manage to put them back to 0 again last week.

I think I can't stand having a head with no future plan in my house, so I brought them to nearby second hand shop last week after 8 months of selling attempt here.

I might interesting to own a practice head at some point in the future, but for now I'll just enjoy the good feeling of 'no floating head'

    51. One Moonlight Wonder head soon to get a body. By the end of the month she will be on hers I hope.

    52. I currently have 1, a Lookback Dreaming Dark Elf Soo. She won't be a floating head long though, I planning to get one of the Minifee bodies DDE has in stock for her. I also have a Soo Dark Elf A head that came with my blue Jiyu, but I don't think it counts as I us it as his alternate head. I count it as the same doll with an alternate expression.

    53. Four and counting. But, two are for the same character, I might change my mind on that.

    54. 20-25, since some are alternate heads for complete dolls. Most of them won't be getting bodies/have a body on the way. I like to collect any sculpt I like and I will display them as blank heads when I get a stand for them. I use some of them as practice heads too, but that's for those that I want to eventually complete. Floating heads used to really bother me, but right now? I like them as just a head. It also puts all those eyes I have to good use and I don't need to fuss over a body. A lot of very small studios also just make a head sculpt and no body, so it makes things easy for me.
I've also seen some sick stands made for just heads, and there is one studio that makes head sculpts and they're on these fancy stands that also double as a candle holder. I'm not sure if that's a good idea to make them in resin though.
If I get more space in the future though, the floating heads might just gain bodies, although most will still stay a head.

    55. I've had one floating head for approximately four months now because I'm not able to purchase the body I want for it yet and I feel terrible about it, so I am amazed at how many of you have a collection of them xD
I only had one floating head before and ended up selling it almost the moment when it came home (it wasn't in scale with the rest of my crew and I had to let it go) so I hadn't experience the eagerness to complete the doll yet.
Crossing my fingers to change the amount to zero before the year ends >w<

    56. Zero, with zero plans of ever changing that. Floating outfits, however…

    57. Just one which I have no idea what to do with: the Luts 2008 event head that came free with my Kid Delf Hodoo. If counting the sleeping/dreaming/duplicate heads (I have 3 and a half, including a Littlefee faceplate), they are either sleeping/dreaming counterpart of my original dorries or alternate personas that share the same body. XD XD XD

    58. I have two that will never get a body. They aren't part of the storyline I have. They're actor heads, which I've had for years. I have Bradon Lee as the Crow and Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock. I do have to get them better bust so they have something nicer than sitting between the rest of the dolls

    59. Currently two, but only because I'm saving up for the bodies and waiting for the new Impldoll muscle girl body.

    60. One and a half! That sounds terrible doesn’t it…….the ‘half’ is a Realfee faceplate that doesn’t have its own body.

Come to think of it both of the floating heads were bought along with a full doll from the MB as I had intended to use them on the bodies but instead found myself preferring the original heads.
