How many dolls do you purchase at year?

Hmmm....I'm not sure how to answer because I've been in the hobby for almost nine years, and it changes each year. For example, I only got three lower priced MSDs my first year, but when I was making good money, I was impulse buying dolls or putting them on layaway every month. Sometimes I would buy or start paying on three dolls at the same time. Now I'm a housewife with no income, so my buying has been greatly cut back. I have acquired five dolls this year, but I've sold more than I've bought, so I guess I'm in negative numbers?

 

well I'm new in the hobby and last year I purchased 4 dolls. this year so far I only purchased 1 with plans for 2 more before the year ends. if not purchase outright at least to start a layaway on one. next year I plan on saving all year so I can finally purchase my grail doll then I'm gonna not buy dolls for a while after getting my grail lol

 

This is tricky to answer because I'm on high speed shelling characters right now. After one year in the hobby, I have six dolls and six floating heads, with more paid and on the way! In the next year, I plan to finish my collection. After that, I'll spend more on outfits and things for them, but I won't be buying anymore dolls (unless I'm still waiting for a couple of the harder to find dolls to show up in the MP, but hopefully it won't take that long).

 

It varies a lot... Some years I've added many to the crew and some years it's only been a few. Some years I've sold off more than I purchased. Some years no one leaves at all.

On average, I seem to end up with ten or twelve... and after almost twelve years of collecting, that kind-of adds up.

 

I've only been in the hobby for a few years and already for me it varies. I try to keep it to two dolls a year but of course it seems like a few extras (mainly floating heads) slip into the shopping cart every now and then.

 

That is difficult to say. For me it varies too. This year it is 5 plus a few heads. I hybrid a lot, so I have bodies to share for those floating heads but I prefer to have whole dolls. I do have periods where I sell dolls and heads again - so my collection has stayed between 25 and 40 dolls for the past few years.

It is a difficult question to answer. If my last new doll had arrived earlier, I would not have bought the second one. There is the problem of new sculpts which are too good to resist as well.
I am unlikely to buy one next year, for instance, due to having no dolls money, though this could change as well.

 

Like everyone else has said, it varies. I tend to shake things up in my collection when life is stressful and that leads to not only buying but selling.

 

Like many others, it varies over the years. Some years I'll get 4, some 1. It all depends on who speaks to me to be shelled. This year, I've bought 2 (with a possible 3rd, waiting to hear if the doll is still available) and had a doll bought for me as a gift. Additionally, I've bought a doll for somebody else as a gift, so technically, it's 4 this year although only 3 are actually going to be staying with me.

Whether or not I purchase any more this year will depend on a variety of things. If a certain company offers what I want during an Xmas sale, I'm doomed. I'm also not counting the possibility of purchasing of bodies for the 2 floating heads I have. That purchase can happen whenever and I'm still trying to decide on the one body which company I like best for the character so it's highly likely that'll be a next year purchase. or at least my wallet hopes that's the way of it.

 

I got my first bjd doll this year last month and in december I'm planning to buy one more doll. I prefer msds and I think 2 dolls in a year is a good number, if I have a chance to buy more than 2 I will

 

I got 3 bjd dolls more than 5 Jenny dolls (the size is similar with Barbie but the face is Asian comic style) this year. But I didn't buy any bjd doll at the year before last year.

 

No idea how to vote. I've been collecting BJDs specifically for 12 years, fashion dolls even longer. I have had crazy years like the one where I went Puki crazy (I added over a dozen in a year) to like years like this one where I've only bought 2 so far. I fluctuate as well and have no exact trend or rule that I follow.

 

Well, it used to be an average of 3 dolls per year - sometimes more than that, sometimes less than that, depending on money available and whatever doll popped up that I absolutely HAD to have. But ever since I discovered Mandarake that rate's almost doubled ... All those good deals ... All those pretty dolls ... And I dunno what it is but whenever I a doll that's kinda hard to get catches my fancy (as in "I really, really want a ...") it tends to show up on Mandarake shortly after that, for a price that's just too good to pass up on it. *lol*

 

It really just depends! Certain years I buy a few, and other years maybe just one. It always just depends on what other priorities come up during that given year. For instance... This year I purchased a few camera lenses, which really put a crutch in my doll plans! But, next year I think I may be buying a few... There are about 3-4 I'd love to be able to buy whenever I get the chance! It's always a toss up how many I will buy in a given year!

0 to 2 per year here (so, average, one per year?). Well, if you go by arrival of bodies, max 2 in a year, lol--this year I finally bodied a floating head and put my grail/unicorn on layaway. And as for 2013/2014. . . Two dolls arrived in 2014, both preorder, but one I paid for up front, while the other I couldn't pay for till she shipped. So in 2013/2014, the shipping notices say one thing, and my bank statements said another. XD

 

Usually, less than one full doll. Most of the time, I buy a head and then a body when I've got a bit more money saved up. And since I'm on a tiny budget, that doesn't happen often .

 

Totally varies. Most years I buy two or three, but some years I don't buy any at all.

Like most people, doll buying varies for me as well. In my first year (2014), I only bought one doll. The year after, I bought a full-set from the company and a floating head from the MP. This year, I succumbed to buying two dolls, one from the company and one from MP. I have plans for next year to buy one doll and put another on layaway but they're not set in stone yet. You can say average is from 1-2. But again, it depends on my financial situation and the amount of new/old desirable dolls in the market.

 

It varies for me too. If I'm saving for a trip or something then I usually try not to buy any but that's pretty tough! The most I bought in a year was 5 I think, but unfortunately I ended up selling a lot of them since I didn't think through those purchases enough, so now I'm trying to keep it down to two a year!

 

This year i think it will just be one because i just got my first bjd and would like to limit myself so i dont go crazy buying them. Next year i might get 1-2, and that'll probably be my limit per year, but i can't say for sure because things always change

 

My first full year in the hobby (May 2010 to May 2011) I bought...5. Five!!! There was a period of about two years from 2013 until last year when I didn't buy any dolls at all. Zero!!! Beyond that, it's all very murky, because I have a serious floating head problem, and I also can't keep track of who got here when...

 

I've only been in the hobby a year and a half now, so my vote is just what I've bought recently. Which is a lot. How would I count parts of the dolls I'm trying to put together? Let's just say I have bought too many, most I don't even intend to keep!

 

Maximum of 2 per year here. Usually only 0-1.

 

It varies - according to what I can afford, how expensive each doll is etc.

I might get one fairly high priced doll or several cheaper ones, or none at all.

Two years ago I ordered 8 dolls in that year but now I didn't get any and I think I'm already satisfied.

 

I'm on track to buy three this year (if a certain sculpt gets offered in December as expected) plus a floating head. But next year, my only planned purchase is a body for that head. I'd like to not buy a lot of dolls, but instead focus on working with the ones I already have.

And of course, appreciate all the dolls that other people buy...

 

Zero to one. I can not picture myself owning more than 7 dolls, even if somebody was tossing them on me free of charge, I'd still tell them to please stop after number 7... I'm extremely picky, and rarely find a doll whom I'd like to adopt. I have twins of the same sculpt, and currently not looking for more dolls. There are a couple of heads I'd like to have though...

 

Two per year (usually one msd (sd this year and one yosd or tiny). Though I resold one of my dolls from the first year and used the money to buy another doll instead, so last year it was technically 3

 

It's hard to answer as well because I only bought one last year and this year alone I've bought 4 & the year isn't over yet....

 

Once upon a time I could buy a lot more dolls! But I usually end up at about three a year. sometimes more. Layaway helps a ton

So far this year I've bought 2 dolls my dark tan Ellana and an Iple KID. I missed all the other pre-orders I really wanted.

I have three dolls but I only buy one once a year. The only reason I have three is because I got a free doll with an order. Right now it has been over a year and a half since I've bought one, which I will be doing soon!

 

So far this year, I've purchased three and that will probably be my limit for the year.

 

Generally about one a year, but 2016 is a dry year for me - no dolls at all. I sold everything BJD-related I own in order to allow myself time to re-assess what I actually want in a doll, instead of impulse buying. Impulse buys don't stay around long.

 

Last couple of years it's always been 2 dolls a year, but this year I've purchased 3 and a floating head...!

Hmmm....I don't really keep count, and I do a lot of hybrids, so often I'm getting pieces but not full dolls. I probably have had a year where I got 12 or more, and this year I've gotten....7 I think? with two more on the way. But....I also do a lot of selling and trading, and having enough money to buy a new doll means I need to sell a different doll. I think I've sold that many this year too, so it tends to balance out and not feel like a major influx all at once.

 

This year I bought wayyy too many, but to be fair I only bought them all because I did a full purge of my collection and only kept two of the 6 that I had. So far I've bought 3 bodies, 3 heads, a full doll, and I'm ordering another before the end of the month, and possibly another head too >.<''

 

Back when I bought the ones I'm selling, I got most of them in 2007... soooo 10...... I can't believe I used to spend money so freely, but my family was pretty well off so all the money I made I could spend. If you want them and you have the money without hurting yourself financially, I think it's great! : D

I'm selling them now due to lack of space, and I sort of need some of the money. So I'm using some for two small dolls, and the rest for my more life sustaining expenses! xD

 

My average was two dolls a year... until this year. This year I ended up buying six dolls, two floating heads, and getting a surprise doll in a blind bag... Oh well, I adore them all.

 

The most I ever bought in one year is 3 dolls. That's only happened once tho. Usually it's more like one. This year, I've bought nothing but a random head and I probably won't buy any more resin till next year at least. I'm not really into having a super huge collection, and buying new dolls isn't a big part of how I enjoy dolls. I'm more into focusing on doing stuff with the dolls I already have right now, and as for future buying plans I just have a very few more I'd like to have and then I'm done buying anyway.

 

Oh dear...my boyfriend-now-husband purchased our first doll back in 2007. Then we got a YoSD and an SD13 in 2008. Then nothing until 2013 where we got an SDG. Then nothing again until this year (2016) where it looks like it's 4 so far (still waiting for the last one to arrive in the mail). Hopefully, Volks won't do another lottery anytime soon and no Dear SDs show up on the Marketplace as I think 5 in one year is a bit excessive. Hahaha.

 

For the first 8 years, I averaged 3 dolls a year... but then I had a few crazy doll-buying years after that! So my average is around 6 a year, more or less... I'm definitely in doll-hoarder territory these days.

 

I haven't bought any this year, but I plan to buy a smart doll next. I haven't been buying many dolls in the last few years just for budgeting reasons. But I do tend to spoil the ones I have.

 

At the moment I'm buying dolls second hand. It just really depends on how much money I have from work.
