Shipping How long will USPS hold international EMS packages?

Oct 15, 2009

    1. If you have an international EMS package that is waiting to be picked up at the PO, how long will they hold it before they return it to sender?

I'm trying to find out how many days I have before I must pick up the package since I am out of town >< I read USPS homepage and it says 5 days but that's impossible. It must be MORE than 5. I searched on-line and have found 14 days as an answer (someone said USPS will wait longer before they return international EMS packages since it's more troublesome than domestics but I am not sure if that's correct).

    2. They will wait 12-14 days unless called and asked otherwise. They'll hold up to 40 days if you call them and ask them to. :) You might want to do that to make sure, if you're in a smaller town they actually might ship it back after a week, if they haven't read up on the manuel as well as others who do it more often.

    3. My post office has told me FIVE days for EMS and FIFTEEN for domestic.

    4. Oh I'm on the phone with them now and it seems to be 5 days for domestic EMS, 30 days for international EMS. So I don't have to worry about it. :o Thanks to all for answering for me.

    5. Actually I should correct it, international EMS is only 5 days. They will not hold it longer.

    6. If they're holding your mail, then they should hold it longer. Ask them to hold it, or see if a trusted neighbor will accept it.
