I'm awaiting my first resin babe but that certainly doesn't mean I haven't been spoiling him He has a beanbag chair and a blanket (both crocheted by me!), instantly adorable little Chucks, a Varsity jacket, a super cute and casual little outfit (a more outdoors appropriate one is on the way!), a pile of Stephen King books, a pair of sunglasses and a new laptop so far. And I've just bought him these: When he gets here, I think (I hope!) all the time I intend to spend with him will make him a happy skele So how do you guys spoil your doll(s)?
My resin babes aren't here yet, but I've been going a little ham spoiling them in the clothing department as I prepare for their arrival! I think that's how I'll end up spoiling them: clothes, shoes, and wigs. I don't think I have too much space for a lot of props or a diorama setup, but I have found it fun to get little props like a tea set and a nice handheld fan. It sounds like you have a nice setup ready for him when he comes home!
I think I get that feeling from the way I enjoy always making them new outfits and such, as well as trying to take them somewhere pretty for portraits
I've been spoiling my doll by making her handmade outfits! It's so fun to finish a project and put it on her for the first time.
I got my doll recently, so I'm still collecting things for her. Her story is set in the 80s, so I'm planning to spoil her by getting little vintage props like cassette tapes and such things. I'm also spoiling her with clothes of course, and I have a particular photoshoot in mind... so I'm getting her an umbrella! Sewing and knitting clothes for her is a brilliant idea. I'll have to try to spoil her that way too.
I spoil them by playing with them, doing their makeup, taking photos and trying to make them wigs! I don’t always have the money to buy them things but they know they’re loved!
I spoil them in the worst way for my wallet. I look at them and go "You know what? I think you need a wife/husband." And then the family expands.
For my MSD guy, first I bought him a little bunny on sale as a helper. Then I ordered his daughter. Now I'm making plans to order his wife, because why not complete the family?
I'm getting back to doing stuff for my dolls. Right now I'm hand-knitting sweaters for... all of them. Originally it was going to be for my two boys, but now all of the big dolls are getting a sweater. It takes me about two days to knit a sweater for an SD doll and so far I"m loving the outcome (my profile picture was the first sweater).
I love to take my dolls with me around the house and have them sit with me when I work on projects. It feels like a special little trip when they’re taken out of my room to hang in the rest of the house lol.
These are all awesome ideas *is taking notes* Ohh, that's going to look fab Love that! I really need to teach myself to knit YES Hoo boy, that sounds all too familiar Hope Brendan loves it!
I spoil mine mainly by playing with them, taking photographs, and sharing those on my blog and on social media. If someone is getting a lot of photos right now - they're my current favourite! I get clothes for them as well - not just general stuff that's shared amongst the crew, but an outfit or something that is only worn by that particular doll.
Aside from buying eyes, wigs and clothes for them I do not plan to buy any specific doll-sized items. I simply do not have enough space in my apartment! Instead I like carefully curating casual, but aesthetically pleasing objects that could go well with my dolls on photos or could be used as props or placed next to them. I treat my dolls as part of the decor, so I want them to fit within my living room. Namely: - flowers & vases - leather binded books or vintage'y notebooks - Japanese ceramics - engraved brass candle holders, trays - house plants in pretty pots Basically, I try to surround myself with objects of meaning and beauty. Saying all of that, I have just bought them a small curtains to install in the open shelf they sit as a sun protection. It looks a bit hilarious TBH. You could also say I spoil them by living in a mostly north facing apartment, with not plenty of sunlight I used to complain a bit, and then I got into hobby...and perceived drawback became a valued asset, at least in terms of how my dolls will age
I mostly spoil them by making them things! They have a number of clothes made from lovely yarns left over from human-size projects - though earlier this year I did buy a bundle of mini skeins just for them! Plus, aside from masks, they get everything from my sewing efforts. Of course, they have clothes I purchased, too, but I made a good chunk of their wardrobe. I haven't bought the big expensive props for them (I don't have much room), but I do love trawling thrift stores and yard sales to see what fun finds I can get there. Lots of fabric, mostly. Loooooots of fabric. And ribbon. But I've got a few non-fabric things for them. I found a mini tea set once that's just too cute, and a rocking chair I effectively use as a doll stand. Recently I also found a sparkly pink locker magnet type thing, and since the cabinet I keep them in is metal, I think I'm gonna see about putting it up and having the spot under it be Tian Ni's. (Some day I hope to have enough space to convert a spare closet or something into a dollhouse for them... Ah, but the economy.)
I have a fairly large collection after so many years of collecting, and every doll I have is thoroughly spoiled. They’re slave drivers, I swear! I’m always making them things or finding a way to enhance them artistically. I initially got into this type of doll to enjoy my fascination with fashion…so of course each doll has their own wardrobe. All are constantly on display as part of my decor…so of course they reside in elaborate artistic displays surrounded by items I’ve collected to enhance their characters. My SD girls even have their own collection…a collection of amazing hats by a very talented milliner on Etsy (I spent years collecting them for my dolls.) So yeah, spoiled indeed!
Recently, it's been a whole bunch of new shoes... I love spoiling my beloved Eva, but it's also practical because they can work with all of my adult Iplehouse ladies. They share the same feet molds.
Mostly clothes. I make most of my dolls clothes myself and I'm a compulsive crafter, so there is always something new in the works. But it's not entirely fair between the individual dolls. Some are easier to make stuff for than others and that is reflected in their warderobes. I do collect props and other things, but not enough to call it spoiling them. Not most of the time, anyway.
Usually buy getting them things that are just theirs - whether that's eyes, wigs, clothes, or accessories. Things that I wouldn't shove in the 'communal wardrobe' or prop box when not in use, but stays with that particular doll. In the case of one of my tinies she gets exclusive everything. She doesn't have to share a thing, and also has her own roombox, where everyone else has to share shelf/table space. ...and of course the tried & true - buy ur doll a sibling/friend
For my dolls, it's definitely clothes and wigs. Some are just for them, others they willing share. And I guess a few dolls got spoiled by me buying them a friend/soul mate. But it's definitely clothes haha. I am trying to get them more props.
I have favorite dolls that I spoil more than others, but because the only "free" thing I can do with my dolls is giving them faceups, I tend not to be able to spoil my dolls as I'd like. I try to give them all equal amount of attention, but buying accessories means being really choosy and inevitably my favorites get more than the others.
I fell out of the hobby for a few years, but I’m getting back into it now and making up for lost time. My dolls are currently spoiled with plans for houses/dioramas they can live in, friends (of course), and in some cases if I find spare (human) jewelry in my collection that will work and I will let them borrow it or “give” it to them. One of my dolls came with ear piercings and now she wears a pair of gold filled studs I wasn’t using
Same here! while the spoiled ones are my vinyls so far, I think soon that will definitely change in regards to who I like so spoil!
I like to think I ‘spoil’ my dolls in many ways. I make sure to give them attention with photoshoots, clothes, shoes, etc etc, and try not to make any of them “feel” left out. Right now I’m especially keen on building all of their individual wardrobes. I also take turns in bringing one to hang out with me when I sit in the living room after work (currently it’s my brand new Crobi Nia with me!). In passing I also tend to fixing their wigs, looking after dust, and overall making sure I “acknowledge” them as I pass through on certain days. I might’ve been influenced by my love for A Little Princess in respect to dolls, but in truth I really find a lot of comfort in them, and also have invested a lot in them as well, so I want to make sure I respect that.
The spoiled ones get the professional faceups not done by me. Or expensive wigs bought just for them.
I've made her a bed and found a cute little dresser and screen for her at an estate sale. She has some tiny plushies. She's yosd size and I found that micro squishmallows are the perfect size for her! She has a bunch of little knickknacks too. I've basically created her own little room on my bookshelf.
I used to bought a new outfit for my oldest doll every two years. She is a dollstown Soph B in tan skin (the one in my avatar). But last year she got a girlfriend, ahaha! A dollstown Elysia in ebony skin, that is perfect for beeing her lover! I also buy quite often new fabrics for outfits for my younger oni girls. I used to buy kimonos for the whole oni family but now I feel like it's better if I sew them myself (even if it's not as beautiful). My other dolls are neglected in comparison!
Thrifting for fabric sounds like such a good idea, glad I jumped down this rabbit hole. I've personally been window shopping, trying on our fits in my head till the little suckers get here. I hadn't really planned a style perse, just loved the sculpt and figured I'd work around it. Definately been saving face ups on IG for inspiration to give them the best face ups I can.
I spoil my dolls a lot but mostly with outfits, wig ans accessories. Not so much with furnitures and such, because unfortunatly I dont have enough space to do so, and also because I like to move them around the house, change their spots regularly so dioramas are not very suited for that kind of display.
I try to hold them as much as possible! Carrying them around the home with me throughout the day. Also, ordered custom display bags to carry them outside! During market trips with dolls, I always get lots of compliments. Definitely like to stock up on clothes for them too!
Trinkets. So many trinkets. Miniature Squishmallows, food items, weapons, and repurposed 'furniture'. Adding details to outfits with tiny beads, chains, charms, and pins. More clothes than they would actually wear because I like to choose a Main Outfit and that rarely gets changed. -with one exception, it's fun to do Holiday themes for one of my smaller dolls but the rest pretty much dont get touched.
Couldn't have said it better myself! I am also a compulsive crafter, and making clothing for my dolls is one of the main ways I show love. I tend to make more clothing for my mature 1/6ths since there's three of them and I will often lose focus on other (mostly larger) sized clothing projects (I like when they can be finished in one sitting), but I'm slowly working up the confidence to work on everyone else's wardrobes. I also show my adoration to my favorites by carrying them around with me and taking photos of them. I love bringing dolls with me places, especially when there's good photography opportunities, but they also just provide me comfort when in public. I feel less alone and anxious if I have a doll with me. I really enjoy spending time with my dolls in a more general sense. For example, I enjoy setting them up next to me or even holding them while I work on other hobbies. I like to think that spending quality time like that makes them feel appreciated, too.
Oh, yes. I have mostly mature minis and a few mature tinies. While it's much easier to get nice details on the larger dolls, the fact that I can make a LOT of stuff for the tiny ones before it starts to take up any space to speak of makes it a bit more guilt free. I could easily have filled up the house with stuff for the dolls, if I didn't restrain myself at least a little bit. I try to make sure the majority of the stuff I make is things that will actually be used and not just things I want to make for the sake of making them, but it's not a fool proof system.
You make an excellent point! I’m a perfect example of the dangers here…I got into this hobby as an excuse to explore fashion to my heart’s content (and boy, did I!!!) Since 2006 I’ve slowly been collecting and creating wardrobes for all sizes. Today I have dressers and shelves just dedicated to wardrobes! I can’t complain though since it’s been so much fun and a fascinating learning experience along the way. But wow, my dolls are so spoiled and I’m running out of room!
Those look gorgeous! I have yet to acquire a resin doll, but I will someday soon. With other types that I have had in the past, I have taken them for walks or road trips on free days. I have been on the lookout for mini stuffies for a potential future doll! I have not found anything of super high quality yet, but I am still planning on spoiling them with one someday.
Currently spoiling the girl I'm waiting on by buying everything for her and having it here ready for arrival!
Clothing that costs as much as my own. And I like nice things, so that ain't cheap either. Most of their outfits have cost 250+, not including shoes, wigs, accessories, etc. And I like to kiss the top of their little heads when I'm in the room and tell them I love them Like a normal person.
Those are wonderful items! Your doll is lucky ^^ I've bought my dolls bags, a suitcase, a wooden chair for my 1/4, a Plush chair for my 1/12, plushies, extra clothes... my one friend even bought my one doll their very own little hello kitty collectible doll ^^
Definitely by buying lots of different outfits and wigs. I like to dress them up and change their looks entirely. My future goal is making a diorama for my 1/4 dolls. I'd love a really nice couch and armchair that fits them.
I like to find new clothes for them and style their hair. I also love designing outfits for them and trying to give each of them a specific wardrobe. I’d love to design some tattoos for a few of them but I haven’t quite had the confidence to experiment with that yet. I also make sure to give them hugs and sometimes I talk to them
Making and buying clothes and accessories that are specifically for them, to fit their character. Also buying them really nice shoes! Oh, and hats. If the doll doesn't have a million hats do I even love it? In the past I made rooms for them, with their own furniture and props, but I don't have enough space in my flat so I don't do that anymore.
I just bought another display cabinet so they won’t be so crowded, lol! I also spoil them with a lot of clothing, wigs, and shoes. I think I need to focus on toys and furniture next.
I spoil them by buying clothes and better eyes as well as props. I recently got an archery bow for my elven girl and new eyes for my fox girl. Though, I really spoiled a YoSD that I'm actually now selling (he's not cutting it anymore and I need to downsize). I bought him so many toys and previously set up a bedroom, complete with dinosaur themed bedspread. I'd like to reshell him to do that again but that's a future project.
I don't think I really spoil my dolls. I just give them a fictional world where their lives are far better than my own and surround them with a large happy family. I do buy them a lot of outfits and barely any clothes for myself. I hate clothes shopping for myself, but love clothes shopping for my dolls. Maybe i'm trying to spoil my dolls in clothes because I've tried dressing my dogs and they hate it. I put on an outfit for my dogs for like 1 minute after all the effort I put in getting them to wear it, but they don't like it so I take it off them right away. I do buy lots of shoes for my female dolls. My male dolls need work on the shoes, but it's harder to find shoes for my male dolls. I like to get my dolls nails done and give them fancy face ups. I guess I get my dolls all dolled up to look appealing to the eyes and look as perfect as they can be.
I shop on Etsy. I love getting little packages from all around the world. I love it almost as much as the dolls themselves.
I am spoiling my first doll with clothes and shoes, but her size is so atypical (Zaoll, 52cm), that it is really difficult to find something for her. That is my salvation.
Parker is my #1 and I have spoiled her with lots of clothes, shoes, trips before Covid, and she is my most photographed. My biggest regret is when I went to Disney World I didn't take her. It was first time for Granddaughter and I wanted to focus on her experience. We went as a family in 2018. Little did we know what was ahead. I always thought I would go again and then take her. Sadly I don't think it will ever happen. I do hope eventually we travel like we used to and then take her to all the places I want to see one more time, but I kind of doubt it. So day trips will have to do.
As much as I love the idea of sewing and crocheting the clothes myself, sometimes it’s nice just to do a bit of shopping. I just got my girl some winter clothes and boots, so I soon will be able to take her out in the colder weather and take some cute photos. I’ll post photos when they arrive. I would love to see some photos of the way you guys spoil your dolls too!
I usually make clothes for them - I love to sew for the crew - although one of my girls is also getting a guitar soon.
Companions, props that work for specific individuals, making them clothes.... You know; the usual. I don't think anything YoSD sized and up will be getting a wholeass diorama, but I do like to do the occasional diorama setup for my Ob11 and proper 1/6th scale dolls. Although one of my flaws is overestimating how much I can complete in short time spans so I wind up getting/making stuff for dioramas but not actually setting the seasonal ones up very much. ^^;
I recently got a new member and he's the biggest one so i have to spoil him a lot with new clothes, both pre order and custom cutting cuz there are not many shop that sells clothes in his size out there (accept it's company its self and its kinda costly + not fit with his character) besides clothes and accessories, sometimes i couldn't help myself and buy something that not really 'need to' have, like furniture.. cuz I don't really have much room for the set up and everything.. maybe I've shopping addiction idk lol but after I got the things I thought I dont really 'need to' but 'want to', I'd say I do need them now xD
I'd say buying shoes is my version of spoiling them? They don't have loads but I don't think they also need to have as many as they have There's also at least one pair that cost a little too much for doll shoes imo But it's fine, I make their wigs and clothes and convince myself it evens out. I also got Asa a miniature guitar which is definitely a "want" and absolutely not a "need"... but honestly it is all just to spoil myself, isn't it?
