Props How do you make bouquets

Jan 15, 2022

    1. I'm not using real flowers. I saw one person make flower hair accessories but what about a bouquet? How would you do this?

    2. Papercrafting might be a good way to do it, but I've also seen some really neat clay flowers as well. but either way, would depend really what kinda flowers you'd be interested to make it out of?

    3. I don't even think I'd enjoy paper crafting so i prefer clay. The paper clay flowers look good as real size flowers, but Im afraid they would like wack amateur crafts scaled down.
To clarify, I'm more interested in the look of the stems and leaves than the flowers themselves.

    4. Many dollar stores and arts/crafts stores carry artificial flowers, and there's usually a pretty good selection of smaller sized ones (which also tend to cost less than big ones). As far as I know, they tend to be thin fabric petals and plastic stems, and the stems can very easily be trimmed with scissors. I've bought a lot and they look good to me, especially in photos. Depending on the flower and the style, they may or not also have fake leaves on the stems.

Artificial fabric flowers would probably look best with at least 1/4 scale dolls or bigger, though I'm not sure what sizes you're crafting for. [example of medium sized fabric flowers and a 1/4 doll. smaller flowers would match this scale better and would also probably be perfect for 1/3]

For a bouquet, you could a buy a variety of smaller artificial flowers, trim the stems to your preferred length, and then glue them together into a bouquet shape (putting the glue around where the stems meet in the middle, preferably with hot glue or other fast-drying glues).

Bouquets tend to also have a paper or plastic "sheath" or covering, which you could make out of craft paper, to wrap the bouquet in and cover the glue from sight. Tie it with a ribbon and it should look pretty good!

    5. Thank you^
I should try a mix of the fabric leaves/petals and different types of clay. Hopefully that will give me the look I'm going for.

    6. A strong polymer clay like cernit or fimo classic could work, check the cake decorating section of your local craft store for fondant or gum paste stampers and snag some floral wire and tape too. See if your library has a copy of Making Miniature Flowers With Polymer Clay by Barbara Quast or pick up a copy from thriftbooks or eBay.

    7. There's a type of clay called Nara Flower Clay. It's used for making fake flowers and it's really lightweight. You could try that.
