How do you feel about this - personal stuff in the backgrounds of photos?

Aug 26, 2006

    1. What do you all think of gallery posts with human underwear being displayed in it?

Ive seen about 3 posts now with dolls playing in their owners underwear. And i personally think its a bit TMI. I also dont think its very classy at all. I personally dont come to this board to look at human skivvies.

I would like to hear other people's opinions. Is it really all that funny? Am i just getting all ruffled over nothing?

I realize some people DO think its funny. But i'd like to know what the vast majority thinks.

ETA: please, dont be TOO rude...and dont name names if you reply <3

    2. I find it kind of disturbing, in an almost attention-seeking way. I know that I don't really want to innocently prance into a gallery post and get smacked in the face by pictures of someone else's drawers.

    3. Are the panties clean?

That's all I ask for. I've got no problem as long as they are...

    4. I think it's very tacky and attention whoreish. Unless there's a good reason I really DON'T want to see your underwear, no matter if you think it's cute or funny or edgy.

I don't think there's anything prudish about not wanting to see it - I'm anything but a prude, and I don't want to see a stranger's underwear, worn or not, unless that's what I'm looking for. Especially when I want to just look at some pretty dollies.

I also find it pretty weird that on a forum which tries very hard to be suitable for younger doll fans (as in banning severe swearing and overtly sexual nudity), people are allowed to post pictures of items that, for instance, are designed to spend most of their life...well...nestled in their owner's arse crack :/. If I had a kid I know I wouldn't want them browsing images of underwear (unless they were buying new stuff or whatever). A lot of the time, like it or not, underwear, especially lacy thongs and padded bras, does have sexual connotations, and combined with dolls this weirds me out. If you have some kind of weird sexual attraction to your BJDs that's your business, but I imagine most people don't want to see any suggestion of this.

On the other hand, there are probably a few people who do want to see things like this, and in comparison to many things an unworn thong, no matter if it's lacy with a racy slogan on the front, is pretty mild. I think the best solution would be if people who really feel the need to post pictures of their pants, made sure to put a warning in the thread title, and make clear that it's human, not doll, underwear you'll be seeing. Best answer for everyone, imo.

    5. Eh. Far as I'm concerned, if I see it and don't like it, I'll just back out. The way I see it, so long as the undies aren't dirty and their doll is the focus, they can post what they want.

I live by a standard of "don't like it, just look away" with art and pictures.

    6. I'm more iffy about seeing someone's knickers than a bra. I mean, I personally think the mental image of someone's bra ontop of a mischievous little doll looking at the camera innocently saying, "No, I wasn't going through your drawers looking for the sock of money..."

I could see my dolls do that.

And if there are underwear, they BETTER BE CLEAN.

    7. It's not the most tasteful thing in the world... but I can't say that it really bothers me all that much. There are a lot of things in the world (and even in the Gallery-) that disturb me more than the sight of random unmentionables.

    8. if you take pics of your doll in a lingerie(underwear and bra) store on top of a pile of underwear it could make an amusing pic i suppose

i dont find it funny seeing other peoples underwear, but you know, dont like dont watch it. but if they find it funny we shouldnt judge cuz there are a lot of other topics some people might not like, like nudity or shounen ai. put up a warning and if you still watch it it'll be your own fault

    9. I think it is gross. There are other boards desinged for things that involve themes like that. It is not like a tasteful body sculpt shot, it is dolls playing in human underware!

    10. Context is everything. So whether or not I find it edgy depends on what's being portrayed. I don't inherently find undies offensive, although I might find a particular photostory in bad taste.

I just think that when you start trying to legislate taste, you begin a journey down a perilous, slippery slope.

      Lisa

    11. Where did you see this, I wasn't aware that it happening. But I can say for myself that I don't want to see someone else underwear, that's a little to personal for my taste.

    12. I haven't seen any such pictures, but eh, it wouldn't bother me, so long as its clean (in both the literal and figurative sense). I mean, you go to a department store and they have tables of cutesy panties in the middle of the aisle! Its just underwear.

And like ChibiJaime above, I'd also just hit the back button if I didn't like it. Of course, there are some things that are too racy and innapropriate for this board, but I don't think random underwear is one of them. ^_~

    13. I've never seen a doll playing in human pants, lmao!

    14. I'm guessing I've not clicked on those particular threads as I've not seen any undies.

It does seem a little....odd? to throw a doll in your underwear and take photos.
      It doesn't offend me, though.

    15. It doesn't bother me in the slightest, but then, not much does.

    16. havn't really seen any pantie post

    17. Well, to each their own, I guess. ^_^ I confess that I haven't noticed any panty threads, but I can't imagine wanting to look at them if I did come across them. I was just brought up to think it was impolite to look at someone else's underwear unless you were, er, "close" to them.

    18. I personally don't put my dolls near my underwear, I don't feel the need. I guess it can be funny
But if you're taking the pictures with your sexiest little panties it may be that you want some attention.
I don't really like looking at used human thongs on a doll.
So I just won't look at it.

    19. It's just underwear like can be seen at any department store. It's not like they're wearing them and posting pictures of that. And from the underwear stories I've seen, it's in context with a photostory.

I think it's as simple as not reading the story if you don't agree with it. To each their own.

    20. I completely agree. If the owner isnt actually wearing the undies I dont see what the big deal is. You see them in stores or hanging out on clothes lines all the time. If it was a bathing suit in the picture would it bother as much? I also dont see how its attention seeking *_* maybe if the owner was in the background of the pic wearing said undies then yea I'd think maybe they want some attention. lol

    21. It's attention whorish because underwear, a lot of the time, define how a person is in bed. Say if someone has a picture of their thong with their doll *(which is gross. Why would I want to put something that spends all its time on my butt and beyond near my expensive dolly?)* then they want you to think "OHH LOOK I OWN A THONG I'M SEXY".

It's trashy. Straight up. Trashy and unecessary. There are other ways to portray your dolls as mischevious. Leave your underpants to yourself and your signifigant other.

    22. I think that these shots aren't inherently nasty -- its all about how they're executed. If its a comedic photostory where, say, a gay male doll is stuck drowning in a panty drawer, then I'd probably find it at least somewhat amusing. If it's a doll just standing there holding their owner's underwear, it would strike me as attention whoreish -- there's no POINT to a doll holding your underwear. Why use it as a prop?

I'm as big on sexual liberty as the next liberal. It's all in the execution. If it's tastefully done, bully for you. Though.. honestly, if you don't like it, don't read it. Back out of the post. Plenty of people post photostories that I personally find unappealing; I just don't read 'em. I don't think "It's gross" should be reason enough to ban something from display, so long as if there's nudity it's labelled, etc. Simple as that. :)

    23. Quoted for emphasis. (And the only reason I typed it out was because it was too shprt to post otherwise.)

    24. emphasis isnt really needed..im asking for a variety of opinions on the subject. Its a good opinion yes, but it doesnt need to be quoted for the sole purpose of seeing it twice.

    25. I beg to differ. Buying or showing a piece of clothing does not make a person who they are. If we're going to be straight out be offended by underclothes, which are just clothes after all (and that are not on people, I might add), then we also must be offended by doll underclothes.

    26. the reason i dont like the fact that there are human undies in pictures around here, is because i dont really want to know that much about anyone here.

It IS differant from whats in stores because those dont BELONG to anyone. I dont want to see someone's personal boobie and behind holders (or lack thereof)

In no way shape or form is it needed. Why would anybody else here on the forum get a kick out of seeing a doll holding a thong? Companies make doll props for a reason. I think flashing your underwear to a family board for TOYS is a bit much and really really random.

Why underwear of all things?? Why something so personal that should be kept for YOU. Not a board of 5,000+ people to see.

Other human sized props that dolls end up getting posed with arent NEAR as personal as underwear that 95% of the world HOPEFULLY doesnt see.

Where do you draw the line? Personally, i vote that its drawn when people use their own PERSONAL underclothes for cute little props.

    27. Then don't read the photostories? I personally am of the school of thought that seeing someone's panties is just like seeing a sock, or any other article of clothing that comes into contact with direct skin. If it makes no sense to do so, I'll boggle at it for a moment and wonder at it's purpose, but if it's part of a photoshoot and makes sense in the "story," then I say go for it.

Bottom line is that everyone's tastes are different, and we have a variety of people here from many different cultural backgrounds. Just because one person's tastes are different than yours doesn't mean it's inherently inapropriate or gross. :) That's part of what I love about DoA -- the diversity of it. I'd hate to see that in any way dampened.

    28. Honestly? I don't care. When I see undies in a post, human or doll, I don't immediately think of it in terms of human sexuality. I find it odd that people do think about that...do you people think about sex all the time or something? It's just clothes to cover your nakedness. I think about it no more than I would someone's tanktops or swim trunks.

    29. Those photos really don't bother me.
(although I really agree with the idea that it's TMI)
I believe people can post whatever they want to post
as long as the content is safe for all ages. XD
I just need to remember the owner's ID so that
I don't buy the dolls from them or if I do I just
need to remember to give a good bath once I get the doll.

      sophie XD

    30. Its not needed. I'm a bit grossed out when I see my own friend's and family's underware. The last thing I need is to see some untasteful stranger's underware. Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD..

    31. Personally I don't care of there are panties or bra's in posts. I mean we see them all the time in stores, so it shouldn't be too big of a deal... As long it isn't on a body.

I think that as long as gross stuff like pads and tampons ect. are kept out of posts there shouldn't be a problem with showing underwear.

    32. I haven't seen any of the offending pictures, which I am glad for. While undergarments are simply undergarments, and not inherently sexual, posting photos of yours on a discussion forum such as DoA is certainly not the most appropriate thing to do. Undergarments are a personal thing, that I think should be kept private. Would you really want a stranger rifling through your underwear drawer? :sweat

    33. Yeah, now that would be unnecessary and random on a doll board (although I don't see periods as a gross thing at all, it's a natural part of a woman's life, you know).

Anyways, underwear is really just clothes to me. Although it does depend on the context - if it's for example a doll getting a kick out of sniffing their owner's knickers, then yeah, I'd expect to see it somewhere else than DoA.

    34. I think it's a sign that there need to be more companies who make affordable doll props and furniture...:sweat

    35. It completly depends. If its meant to be like, a big dressing room, with makeup and pearls, and costumes strewn about (that's my mental image) I think it'd fit in fine. Even not int aht setting, as long as it's clean and not totally out of place...well, whatever.

    36. Already been done.
There was a photostory in the past about a doll in the tampon aisle. Doesn't bother me, nor does the underwear. It's not like we're collecting baby dolls here, we own adult anatomically correct dolls. I think a pair of panties is a strange prop, but whatever, as long as it's not a shot of the owner in said panties, it seems pretty innocent.

As being as many of us are women here, I find the "gross stuff" comment offensive as I don't think my bodies natural functions are gross at all.:|

    37. Uh underware aren't gross neither are human bodies. Puting dolls into used human underware and sharing photos of them on a family friendly site where underage kids are looking is gross.

    38. I wouldn't care if someone rifled through my underwear drawer. To me, they're just underwear...another piece of clothing. Now, if they were trying to rifle through my drawers while I was wearing them, that would be a different story. Again, it all boils down to opinion. If you don't like it, don't look at it...that's the motto I go by.

    39. Eh. I still say its not that big a deal. As someone up-thread said, they're just clothes. Everybody's got them and there's nothing nasty or wicked or shameful about them in and of themselves. Tasteless? Yeah. A little. But seeing a thong isn't likely to be the downfall of civilization or something that's going to corrupt public morality. Even on a "family" board dedicated to "toys".

    40. Still haven't seen any but I don't really care. I'm not offended by underwear as long as it's clean.

    41. I will agree !!

i dont think its a big deal, but i dont really like it, cause hey everyone(well almost i guess) wears underwear so seeing an underwear is gross ? adding a doll with underwear? maybe a warning possibly, for the ones wear it bothers i guess

    42. i guess i've missed those sorts of posts. it doesn't sound like something i'd be interested in seeing, but i figure if i don't like something, i just ignore it, though. the internet is a big place, there's other things to look at. *shrug*

    43. I don't think it matters that much. Like others have said, underwear is just clothing. I personally don't find those parts of the body 'dirty' or 'disgusting.' I actually think socks can be more gross than a bra and panties.

And I think it's all in one's own opinion. If you don't like it, don't look. That's what I do. I think if underwear is 'innapropriate' for this board, then our society is going way downhill and our children will grow up censored beyond belief.

As for the tampon thing... there was a post with a doll from Australia with a box of tampons in the 'Strangest prop' photo gallery... and I thought it was really cute. x3 The tampons looked like candy, and it was interesting to see what they looked like in another country.

If I posted one of my minis with my 60cm boy's underwear on his head, would that be gross? Even though it hasn't been 'used,' it's really no different to me than normal underwear. It still represents the same thing.

    44. Then let me elaborate.

Over the course of becoming a doll owner and forum regular, I've seen many things, both here and on other doll forums, that I consider to be just wrong. Do human panties fall into that category? Not really. They don't offend me, I'm just not very likely to keep reading/viewing if that's what the thread is about. However, since panties in and of themselves don't fall under any of these categories: adult/explicit material, suicide, abuse, rape, or self-mutilation, I don't see why they should be complaint worthy. Don't like them, don't look.

    45. What's so bad about underwear? 0_o

      Was it covered in skids?

    46. Weeeeeell I think it depends on the person's undies and how its used. If its dirty or something no! If its like..in a laundry basket in the back ground. Yah

    47. Same here.

    48. Well if it's a grocery store that's all good, I'm talking about that stuff on the floor out of the box in an owners room. And I'm sorry if I was offensive, I'm a girl too, I think wear we put them is enough to make me not want them in a photostory. I didn't word that right. But sorry to offend you.

    49. now that would be a funny photostory!

I personally would not like to see someone's underwear on an innocent forum. I don't know the person, and I wouldn't want to know them in that way. this board has childrens visiting it! think of the childrens!

flashing your knickers is a very attention-seeking thing to do. I wouldn't be offended by a person doing that as much as I would pity them....and add them to my ignore list if their pictures were especially distasteful

There's other forums for posting pictures of your thongs...haha

    50. Context, context, context. I believe everything is in the context. I think I've probably seen all the posts with the dolls plus human underwear. And some were funny, but not all. Still, in my opinion, if it's part of a story, if it makes sense to be there, if it's executed well, then it's fine.

For those going 'eww' before seeing the posts, check some of the stories out first. After all, I think in most of them, the doll isn't just standing there holding a piece of underwear pointlessly.

I saw that one too. ^__^ And if I recall right, a lot of people were clutching their stomachs at that picture from laughter. For those who're going 'eww' again, check it out first.

What I do find amusing is that after that one post of doll with human underwear, other photostories appeared close after with human underwear in them as well.

    51. I prefer not to see it as well, but if people want to, it's not like I want to stamp their posts with "WARNING: PANTIES!"

I'm sure I post things people would rather not see as well, but if we required people to warn about everything, it would get silly.

"WARNING: Doll with green eyes. May offend. Take at own risk."

ETA: Agreeing with the "context" question. If underwear is in the shot because your doll was posed in front of it and you were too lazy to pick it up...

    52. Hmm... I haven't found it to be offensive.
If it's in a drawer or dryer, it's supposedly clean.
      Even so, meh. *shrug*
But then I've got a strange sense of humor too. :)

    53. I think there are levels to which I am ok with it.

I am okay with a photostory where a doll gets put in the dryer and puts up some clean boxers and states that "these are too big for me..." and that's the end of it.

I am also ok with dolls that are childern dolls playing with clean underwear in a child like way. Like using a human size bra as a slingshot because they don't know it's a bra.

I am not okay with naked dolls being posed sleeping in red tongs. I am not okay with dirty underwear. I am not okay with you taking a photoshoot and being to lazy to move your panties out of the way.

I am not okay with you being in your undies or a bathing suit in the picture with the doll. I don't need to see you!

    54. Haven't seen and I'm wondering wouldn't the human panties be a bit too big? There's no way my underwear would fit my doll. Not that I would feel inclined to try anyway. I'm not offended by it, it's no big deal but I don't agree with the comment made about underwearing commenting on how you are in bed or whatever. In that case I am Bridget Jones!! ;)

    55. ::shrug:: It's just underwear. Don't like it, hit the back button and move on.

I have no idea who they'd be trying to impress with their underthings anyway, we're a predominantly female community.

I find it incredibly hypcritical that we can have (completely immature) dicussions about working doll boy bits (with pictures), and how to "give the DoC boys bigger egos," but as soon as some ladies pants are on the screen people flip.

    56. I don't really care, as long as it's clean and isn't a thong/g-string. (This is mostly because I associate this type of underwear with "loose women". I know not everyone who wears underwear like that, is that way, but I still associate it that way.)

I don't think it's classy either, but, then... who cares. Not classy =/= bad.
A lot of the dolls here aren't meant to be classy.

    57. Underwear are clothes. Are we now supposed to be offended by non-worn articles of clothing? It's exactly the same as posing a doll with any other piece of human sized clothing, and frankly, some bras and panties out there are some of the cutest clothing you will find. Don't like the undies, hit the back button. I also fail to see how viewing underwear would corrupt children, if anything, this stigma against them would just enforce the idea that our bodies are shameful.

And I think interesting shots can be done with dolls and all sorts of sanitary items used everyday by people that are not applicable in the doll world like tampons and toilet paper and band aids. And I don't think we should find tampons or pads offensive and dirty, it's a natural body process and we shouldn't be ashamed of it. Of course, now I think doll sized tampon boxes would be amazingly amusing to have.

    58. Ahh, well put!

    59. I take pictures in my room and often don't realize what's in the background XD

If my panties are there, I apologize - but I don't wear scandelous lacy things, so no worries, eh? :'D I personally don't see a big problem with it.

    60. I haven't seen posts like those, probably because I seldom go on the galleries...

However, I think I wouldn't really want to see other people's undies on ANY posts.....

My philosophy is that forum regulations are like laws, they are the bottom line of what one can do. Apart from that there is still appropriateness....
I wouldn't want a stranger to come and look in my underwear drawer or come into my room where underwears lies around, so why do it on the internet? Where we are essentially, strangers?

Whether one like it or not, underwear is connected with sex and sexual statements. How would you feel if your boyfriend/girlfriend gets invited into another woman/man's bedroom, shown a collection of underwears and being asked to give opinions about them and comes back and said to you 'what's the big deal? It's only some underwear?' If you would feel uncomfortable/angry about this, then can you still say underwears are pure innocent little garments with no implications what so ever?
