Casting How do you cast Hands and feet?

Apr 26, 2012

    1. I was thinking just a little bit ago about casting a doll in the future and I realized I've no clue how you would cast hand and feet so they would have a open slot and a bar for an s-hook. How does that work?

    2. Can anyone please give me some tips?

    3. If there is a slot and a bar in the sculpt, you'll have to put some clay in the slot below the bar to fill the hole on the original, so that the parts won't be locked in the silicone mold. This little bit resulting of resin will then need to be drilled out afterwards. The clay "wall" doesn't need to be very thick, so if you made it thin enough you'd be able to push the resulting resin out without the need for a drill. Another method would be to push clay in from one side, then drip a little bit of resin in from the other side, and pull the clay back out once the resin is set; then make the silicone mold. This would make a very thin wall that could be pushed through without drilling.

    4. Thank you :) Those are really good tips.
