How do I repair Broken Fingers?

Jul 31, 2005

    1. Just a footnote here for future lookers, but I've had a pinki on a Lati doll break in customs and put it right back on with Gorilla brand super glue from the automotive store. It's lasted a whole year and the break doesn't even show. He's bumped his hands on things when fumbled, caught his pinkie in clothes when he's being dressed and the finger stays on like it had never been broken. ^_^ Sometimes I completely forget it was broken.

    2. *old thread is old..but*
just popping in here to say that I've glued fingers on with super glue and they've held up perfectly for over 2 years. :)

    3. So I was traveling a lot and I packed two dolls with one pillow.... usually I'm more careful but it was a long day. And now I have two fingers in a bag which got knocked off from my Bobobie Weylin normal skin. :doh

A guy at Karaoke told me to drill (?!) into the fingers and wire them like he does with his minitures...anyone hear of this? Or I guess I could use some kind of glue for now?

And anyway if I could find replacement hands for a bobobie/resinsoul or comparable sculpt I would use them but I can't seem to find any on their site or DD...

    4. This is exactly what I need to do....anyone know what sized drill bit for a dremel is good? I don't want it to be too big and ruin the fingers more...

    5. I've never ordered BBB, however, I have had broken hands before. I just glued the original pieces together for a temporary fix. Don't know about your friend's idea, I can't comment either way. Leave a Q&A post on BBB site about the broken hand. They will most likely replace (at a small fee) the hand for you. My SOOM supergem girl had a broken hand and with my COA number & a photo of the broken hand they shipped me a new one for $25+shipping. There is no option for hand parts on their website, and I'm betting BBB is the same way where you will need to contact them directly. Iplehouse has a section on their website for "doll emergency/hospital". Stuff like this happens all the time, most companies can replace small parts like that.

    6. Just contact Bobobie directly (or Resinsoul if you want Resinsoul hands for him, they'll ship a little faster than BBB will) and ask about the price for new hands for your boy. They'll give you a price quote, and a shipping quote if you ask for it, and tell you where/how to pay for the order. Just a warning, though, if your guy is more than about 1-2 years old, new hands might not match his resin anymore. They changed the NS color a little while back, and now it's more of a pink-normal skin than the more peachy-yellowy normal it used to be.

So far as fixing the fingers go, you can just glue them back on with super glue, but they'll risk breaking off again at the original break point. If you drill a small hole in the 'stub' on the hand where the break occurred, and another into the finger, and then glue a wire into the finger or hand hole, let it cure, then glue the finger back onto the hand with the wire going into the other part so it's in the holes in both the finger and hand, it'll be a stronger fix. If that makes sense. I'm pretty sure it's exactly what your friend said to do.

    7. So I can ask the manufacturer even if I didn't originally order from them directly?

And the RS normal skin resin is the same as the BBB from a year and a half ago?

    8. I had a doi body that I broke the fingers off and I just put a little dot of superglue on each of them, they stayed in place for two years... and probably beyond, I ended up selling the body with the repaired fingers, and as far as I know, they've been fine for the new owner.

    9. My Soom Nephelin just arrived, she's from the first release so she's second hand. Unfortunately, two of her fingers snapped off in shipping, as well as a damaged dragon's ankle (where it meets the ball joint). A new pair of hands and legs is out of the question, so I have to fix the issue myself. I don't want to use super glue because I'm a total gumby with it. Would I be able to use acrylic glue (the sort that melts plastic together) to stick the fingers back on? And would blushing over the area reduce crack visibility?

    10. Zap-a-gap! It works very very well on resin model kits, its a tad bit of a specialty glue but Michaels sells it. It has a florescent green label. You may end up with a line where the break is but you can always make a teeny tiny little band-aid to put on it! Kind of turns a break into a story. :3

    11. I apologize if this has been asked in the past but i am 9 days away from my birthday and in a state of full blown balling in crying, and my internet is messing up every time i try to search. Normally my birthday is always a bad one every year and i thought at least it would be ok this year cause a friend gave me some money to help pay off a layaway online for a 2nd hand sd so at least id have a present. my second bid. He was very well taken care of, practically mint condition one of a kind faceup with head to body change. But today when he arived it seemed his pinkie finger broke off in the mail. I still have it and i know some of you will probably say just but a new hands, but im in the middle of a car accident case, having to pay for physio out of pocket and still dealing with flood clean up and christmas was just last month, i'm not even having a birthday cake so there's no way i can afford 25 for hands, and the only ones i found on ebay aod sd male hands are different. Is there ANYWAY i can reattach his finger?

    12. I have been told that superglue can be used to put fingers back on,just be careful not to use to much.I hope this helps.

    13. Yep superglue is the way to go, just try to align both parts as best you can. Then let it dry completely (follow the directions on the glue bottle, usually a few hours, but I like to leave my overnight just to be sure) Then if there is still a slight seam, you can take some 600 grit sand paper to it to smooth it out a bit.

      Lots of luck!

    14. ...if he came damaged...contact the seller. Especially if it was eBay. Did they offer insurance? Did you have it?

    15. If he came damaged, contact the seller and see what they can do.

If you don't want to bother, superglue is the way to go. Dollarama usually has little tubes for $1 you can pick up. I've used them to reattach my Minifee's finger and haven't had any issues since.
There will probably be a tiny line, but it's usually not very noticeable. Depending on where it broke you could always paint a ring on his hand or something to cover it up too. :)

You sound like you're having a bit of a rough time, feel free to PM me if you want.

      Goog luck with everything!

    16. i used super glue and i could see some of the dry glue but i painted a ring to cover it. i looks very nice and u can't even tell ( most times you can't even notice the ring cuz i chose a color close to his resin color)

    17. I did a thread on broken fingers , actually titled it "Broken fingers?" I use a Dremel Stylus to drill a hole in finger and hand to add a pin for strength. I just added to it the ring I had been playing around making.

    18. Yes, I have done this. The pin adds strength to the break. I learned it from when I used to modify my Warmachine / Hordes miniatures. I recommend against a manual pin vise, use a Dremel Stylus (or similar) with setting at lowest speed. Tiny drill bits can be obtained at jewelry supply/beading supply stores. I have seen where simple Superglue on the fingers can break.

    19. Hot glue didn't work for me at all, and since tacky glue can be washed off, it's not a permanent fix. When my boy lost his finger, I used a bit of Magic Sculpt and just smoothed it on securing the finger in place around the sides and at the base. Then I let it dry. Magic Sculpt is an epoxy and it's as hard as anything- once you've stuck it on something, you'd have to sand it to get it off. Thankfully, it gave much more working time than hot glue and allowed me to position his finger exactly where I wanted it.

    20. I don't get why people keep asking the same question over and over again.
If you read through this thread thoroughly you will find many different, and very useful, answers given multiple times.

I had a problem with my Elfdoll K recently.
While restringing him he fell over (he was sitting on my bed), hit his right hand
on his own upper leg and then two of his fingers broke off..

Like suggested by many people in this thread I glued them back together with superglue.
Unfortunately you could still obiousely see where they had been broken off.
To solve this I had to be a bit creative and so I made two rings out of Apoxie for him.
Its even more secure that way.

    21. I think the rings are an awesome idea and they look great. My SD boy fell the other day and his chest landed on his hand and broke off three fingers. I glued the fingers back on and sanded it some but I'm in the process of contacting DiM for a new right hand. The body has been discontinued so I'm hoping they have a right hand in their spare parts. They are in the process of looking for me. I doubt I will see one come up on the marketplace tho :( How did you make the rings? Did you just shape it directly onto his fingers?

    22. Im so sorry that your boy lost his fingers too.
I hope DiM has some spare ones for you.
Im currently waiting from a reply from Elfdoll myself about spare hands for my Elfdoll K.
I doubt they have some though.. since they stopped producing boy dolls.

Yes, I sculpted the Apoxy on directly. I used a coctail pick to shape the edges and smoothen the surface out.
I used teeny tiny rings and metal balls to make the "gemstones"

      here is a WIP pic:

    23. Well I think you did a fantastic job with the rings. If you didn't tell anyone, they would probably think you did the rings on purpose because you wanted them there all along ^^ Lyell was recently discontinued and I'm still waiting for a reply back. Hopefully both of us get good news and can buy replacement hands. ^^

    24. What if the amputated finger cannot be found anymore? Whats the best way to replace it without buying new hands for the mean time?

    25. I had a broken hand once, too and made rings over the breakage and pained them with gold colour. Turned out pretty cool :).

    26. OMG, I love this ring idea for covering the seam. Had one of my dolls dive out of his boyfriend's arms and off a table at a meet today, somehow managing to break only his middle finger off, and I've been worried about how obvious the repair would be when I redo his dye job this summer... however, the character is all about bling, so a ring would be just great. May still contact the company and see if there's any chance of a replacement, though I think his line was discontinued a while back, so that's low chance (but still better than it would be for my boy whose company is gone).
