Ok, super glue has fixed the problem, left with black rings around the fingers but I am glad that he has his fingers back on now. I will be buying him some rings to cover them heh
One of my friend's Hound lost his finger via faceplanting into concrete back in August or something. It's reattached with superglue. Just be carefull cuz they can still pop off randomly if the right amount/type of pressure is put on them, but you can just re-reattatch them with superglue.
you know you could get some resin putty and put it over the joints so it has extra rienforcement ^_^ All you would need would be some white, then sand it down after it dries.
when BE broke his ring finger I just reattached it with super glue. It seems quite solid now. In the light you can see the line where the crack is and a bit of shine from the glue but if I didn't know to look for it and wasn't right up close to him I wouldn't be able to tell it was broken at all (I know my mother couldn't, she thought they were new hands)
No, looking straight at his hand now you cant see a difference, its only when you look hard. I will have to try the resin putty idea if I get brave enough to sand xD
Thank heavens for this thread. My sister just broke the thumb off her AOD You doll (Nik) and this stopped the tears.
Revisiting this... yes, super glue works well, but my Kid Delf just snapped all but two of his fingers off today, and I figured it was time to buy a new hand... one super glued finger looked weird, but now three? @_@ Especially since we'll be traveling soon. Is it time to get a new hand, or will he be fine traveling with all those super glued fingers?
Super glue will work fine if it's a clean break, just be careful what super glue you use, some super glues expand during the drying process and could cause some awkward defects. Once dry if there's any seams, a VERY light sanding will even out the seams
my boy broke his finger and i glued it back on. if it falls off (which can happen if you put on too much glue) very gently sand off the glue residue and try again.
This is totally embarrassing since this is my second post in this subforum... I have two problems. Anyway, I was taking pictures of my Yuki-chan just to see if he looks good in his new wig. He fell on my carpeted floor. When I picked him up, I saw his finger on the carpet! Then I said to myself, no big deal. Just re-attach with superglue. So I did. I was gonna be all happy-go-lucky after then and then I checked his face. There it was, a pretty deep dent just between his eyes! He was wearing glasses when he fell face down on the floor. The table wasn't even that high but he sustained a broken finger and a dented face! I have pictures. I did not use any flash because the dent won't be very visible, plus the lighting in my room is yellowish. I apologize for this. First Problem: Deep dent on his face! I added a red arrow so that people can see where and how severe the dent is. Another picture from a different angle: As you can see, the dent is pretty deep. I thought about sanding or incorporating the dent and making it as his scar for his character. But the dent is in the wrong place! I wouldn't mind it so much if the dent happened on his cheek. Anyone have advice on how to fix this? Second problem: Broken finger that was re-attached with superglue! I'm not really bothered too much by this. But the thing is that I just want to know if there's a way to reduce the visibility of the seam that resulted from re-attaching the finger with superglue. Here's the picture: I think I wasn't being precise when I pressed the finger back to the stump! That's why it resulted into having an obvious seam. Even though I was being super careful with him, this disaster still happened! I'm just really numb right now--but I'm calm. I just hope there is somebody who can give advice and show me options on how to fix this. I'm mainly concerned about his face because I really like the default faceup and I'm not that eager to have his default changed. Please help me!
Honestly, the mark on the face looks good. With a bit of brushing it could make a nice scar! Good luck with him! *hugs*
Hmm, someone posted a link in another thread where someone had their dolls nose chipped, here it is. It is goes to a to a customizer who does excellent repair jobs. Or maybe, ask Volks about it? I dont know if they do any repair service or recasting service like that, but It's worth a shot.
I think you should definetly incorporate the dent on his face. It looks good. If it really bothers you, | would sand it. But there is a chance that you will further hurt the sculpt. A friend has filled a crack with molded resin, and then covered it with pastels. I just thought it looked more apparent.
I can completely recommend Jung (linked by Kuroda) for repairs, she's wonderful and very reasonable. Hope you can get this beautiful guy back to normal.
xXDarkNekoXx: I was thinking about it but I just don't feel good about seeing the dent there--knowing that it was my fault, too! I do not think that I have the guts or the talent to make the dent look like it truly belongs there. Thank you so much for the advice. *hugs* kuroda emi: I wish Volks did have some kind of service where they can repair these kinds of damages. I'm not really sure if they'd allow to recasting. But I did e-mail them to ask if they have such a service where they can fix damages caused by the doll's owner. I thank you for showing me a link to someone who does repair jobs. I contacted her already. Gus251: Thank you for your suggestion. I'm not even going to attempt to sand it since I might make it worse so it is best that I leave it to experts to take care of it. His current wig hides the dent well so other people don't know it's there--but it just bothers me that I KNOW it's there. The dent is just really in the wrong location so I'm kind of "ARGH! WTF DID I DO?!" you know. Poppa: Thank you so much for your recommendation! I did see Jung's work on the DS Bernard that had a dented nose and scratched faceup. I'm pretty much sold on asking her to restore my Yuki-chan. I truly appreciate your support and help.
my freddy's finger used to broke off too, but i glued them back using super glue and someone told me to use epoxy resin as a coat around the finger again and then sand it. Blush with some colour so we wont see it, i havent tried this though but thought i might try and hope it helps
xakarias: Hi! Thank you so much for your suggestion. I am quite afraid to do anything else because I probably might cause more damage to my Yuki-chan. O_O;;;; Anyway, my inquiry had been answered by Jung of La Visage Face-Up Shop and she will repair my injured guy. Thank you everyone for all your help and support!
Hi! I have tried to find a thread for how to switch hands but i havent found any. My dollzone Fei was in a little accident and lost a finger. I have glowed it on but i think it looks really ugly on. Is there anybody here how knows a good tutorial or something like that? Thank you wery mutch/Anna
Are you asking for advice on 1) where to find a replacement hand or 2) how to properly repair the broken hand you have?
Well, it dosen´t look very good as it is now so i wonder hot to take of it and replace it with a new hand. Is there any tutorial or something ike that? Sorry, I don´t know mutch so i guess its a stupig question
My doll's finger broke off! I don't know how it happened...I thought everything was normal and then suddenly she only had 9 fingers. I found the broken finger...is there any way I could re-attach it?
Super-glue! http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68458 http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=186831 This thread is in the wrong section though. ^^;
One of my boys decided to attempt suicide cause I never bought his girlfriend, and he jumped off my table and broke his thumb I stupidly used krazy glue to fix it, and the glue dried in one second before I could place the finger in the perfect position Now my boy is no longer fingerless (still girlfriendless, but well... ) but the silly finger is not right ;_; Can I use acetone to dissolve the glue and try again? Was I an idiot and should I have tried tacky glue instead?? Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially by my boy, who doesn't look too happy now ;_; Thanks!
I'm not sure what how you'll get that glue off... but I used super glue to glue my boy's finger back together. You just have to be very careful and get it the first time. ><;; I wish I could help you. Good luck! I hope for a speedy response to help your boy!
Poor boy.... Girlfriendless and now fingerless >< You can try putting the hand in the freezer to loosen up the glue. Just set it in the freezer for a period of time; then gently pull on the finger. It should have loosened up enough for you to pull it back off. When faceplates are glued to heads, this is the method most people use. Just keep putting the hand in the freezer until you get the finger off! To glue the finger back on, super glue is going to be your best bet. Mind you, you can use tacky glue; however, you it will not hold as well, and you will risk having it fall off again (and you may not find it ). I hope you poor boy gets his life together T-T Good luck fixing him *sends lots of hugs and wishes*
I believe they make super glue solvent, but I'm not sure what it would do to the resin/material the doll is made of.
Kiihay, thank you!! I'm glad to know super glue was a good choice then. I'll just don't know how to do it, since it dries way too fast before I place it in the perfect position. Right now it looks obviously broken ;_; ragdoll, LOL!! Yeah, I feel so sorry for him ^^;; *hugs him* Of course it's even worse when my dollie wishlist is full of boy dolls, that doesn't make him any happier ^^;; That's great to hear!! I'll try putting it in the freezer then. I'm so glad there's an option XD Aww, thank you for the hugs and good wishes *hugs back* Wolfmammy, also acetone or nail polish remover can dissolve super glue, but I'm scared of using it on my boy's hand ;_; I have used it in headcaps, when I glued a magnet in the wrong position (do I see a pattern here??) but I don't think I want to risk a melted finger/hand ^^;; I'll try the freezer method!! I'll update when something happens O: Thank you all for your comments and help!
Seasons Final Colours, I was actually thinking of getting a new hand or a new pair if everything failed. For now I'll try to fix it, if it ends up being horrible, then it's time for new hand(s) XD It's an El's left hand, the "heart attack" one. Oh, and he's NS. And not that it matters, but he's also in the 0.0015% of the straight El population out there, hence the suicide attempt cause I don't have another girl :P
I tried the freezer method, but after 3 or so attempts, the finger didn't move at all, and I was too scared to pull any harder ;_; Maybe I'm doing something wrong. How long should the hand be left in the freezer?
This might sounds a little extreme buuuuuut... think of it like this. The hand looks obviously broken. As of right now, you either keep it that way or get a new hand. You can't make it any worse than it is now. So why don't you try the freezer method, but instead of just "pulling" (which is really ineffective, btw), try re-breaking it. If it breaks in a different spot, well, you were going to get a new hand, anyway. But if it works (and breaks in the same spot that it was glued), you can re-glue it to be straighter!=D Don't be afraid!^^
When someone's faceplate was glued on by DoD, Shirokuma suggested the following: The person with the problem faceplate said she only had hers in the freezer for ten minutes before it popped off. So I think it has something to do with the amount of glue used (she had very little- it was leftover from the magnets DOD glued in his head). So I guess it couldn't hurt to put it in the freezer for a bit longer. I have also heard of someone using Windsor & Newton brush cleaner to get off glue (I think they said that they had used gorilla glue on their doll). So if all else fails, you can try that. I don't know if it will work, but I do know that the stuff eats through everythign but resin it seems. Good luck!
SasamiChan, EEEEEEEK!! X_x That did sound extreme, lol. I don't think I'll ever gather the courage to do it ^^;; But you're right, I can't make it any worse ^^;; Thank you ragdoll, UH HU!!! Windsor & Newton!! That's right! I remember reading that somewhere now, I will try it before doing anything else XD Thanks again for the help!! I'll post whatever results I get :P
And Windsor & Newton did the job!!! Fast and clean. And safe too! XD Now I need to clean any super glue residue to try and reglue better this time Wooohoo! *happy*
Awesome! I am going to remember that from now on thanks for letting me know it worked! Good luck getting it right this time! At least now you know you can fix it if you need to
I had my boy sitting on the counter today while I was making breakfast, my brother walked by and not realizing how close he was to my doll, knocked him over and I hear the terrifying sound of something hitting the floor and a tiny peace flying off. ALL FIVE OF HIS FINGERS BROKE OFF!!!! T_T And I tried looking on Luts and I can't find any hands for him! He's a Kid delf Hodoo. If I could find all his fingers I might be able to fix him. But it's just so horrible. It was the one thing I wished would NEVER happen to my doll! T_T that his finger would brake off. But no...all FIVE of them broke off!!!! If anyone knows where I can get a pair of kid delf hands it would help a lot...thank you.
AWW! I'm so sorry this happened to you! I'm not sure of where to get Kid Delf hands, but from what I understand if your doll ever breaks you can contact Luts and they'll sell you a replacement part. But if I were you I'd ask for a pair of hands, because you don't want to risk then mixing up there right from left!Lol. Anyways,I really hope you sort things out,and you may want to change your title to something including broken kid delf hands! GoodLuck! T.T'
I found a FS thread for KD hands. I think they are NS but you can ask. ^_________^ They are in the second post. I hope you get the hands you want. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=193039&highlight=hands
thanks for the help you to. I'll try both options first. I have my boys hand wrapped in cloth right now because I can't even look at it T_T
OMG!! I was just on my way out to get something to sand my girl from her accident, and then I saw this!! DX I almost cried!! Poor Mamo-chan, I can't believe that happened....*huggles Jess and Mamoru*
as you can see his hand is bandaged up right now. So I don't have to look at the hand. The worse part is, I don't even have all the fingers T_T But. Lia is ordering her Minifee today, and is ordering me a pair of Minifee hands for Mamoru. I just hope they'll fit.
That really is just aweful... But thankfully it wasn't something more, as at least hands are relatively easy too replace. Does the resin match Minifee?
From what i've seen it's a fairly decent match. The only thing is I might have to beg Court-chan to whiten Mamoru for me....which I really didn't want done until sometime next year because he has a perfect face right now T_T But I'll deal with anything as long as I don't have to look at his hand any more. T_T
aaww im sorry, if you had the fingers you might be able to do a temp fix, If that happened to me, I might do a photostory or add his non fingers to his back story some how... just to make light of the situation.
I'm actually working on a photo story of Mamoru getting in an accident and ending up in the hospital.
O.O All five of his fingers broke off? Wow, the most I've heard is two fingers braking off at the same time, this must be some kind of record. Awww~ Poor sweetie, I hope that he(&you) feels better soon.
ZOMG D: That's terrible! I'm really sorry that happened =(.. If my brother did that.. Oh man. I'd start crying and yelling at him. ;__; He tends to brake my things whenever I'm over. Get well soon D;
Oh my gosh. :: jaw drop :: Best of luck on getting him fixed, just- wow. How horrible. Just looking at that makes me sad D: And I wish him a speedy recovery.
Ouch, that's pretty rough. I second the notion to contact Luts. I think the minifee hands' ball joint is too small for Kid Delf wrists... MNF have pretty dainty hands, no? I'm sure they will sell you just the one hand. You'll probably need to mail them the broken one, and they'll send you the replacement.
Yes, the best thing is to contact luts. It is very difficult to match resin, but when you also have to match joint size, I can't imagine!
My partner clumsily knocked my brand newly blushed minimee body off a shelf and I do feel horrible right now as this body made perfect my beloved elven boy who's perfect body was that one.. I suppose I can glue it but if anyone out there has a NS right hand spare? I don't know. I just look after my dolls with such care and feel a bit crushed. Is there anyway to mend with out an obvious line? Oh dear
Things are currently being worked out. I sadly don't even have the money right now to afford a new hand so contacting Luts is out of the question for now. But there are a couple people helping me.
