Homes for Tinies discussion part 3

Apr 19, 2013

1. I got a cute little lakeside lodge for my RealPuki boys to share, along with their treehouse. It's really cute-has an outdoor shower and a hot tub. They really seem to like hanging out there.

2. Is that a Sylvanian house, sweetiemom? Whatever it is, it is cute!

3. Pinkgate, I love that your dolls live in a wine crate with their tiny crates.

4. It's from Calico Critters. I got a good deal on it from Amazon.

5. it looks nice sweetiemom. nice to find a plastic house that isnt pink ;)

6. I didn't even realize that.... thank you

---------------

sweetiemom love your little house.

OG just put out a mini loft for their mini doll line called Lori.
Their minis are about the same size as the American Girl minis.
I am wondering if this loft would work for the Pukifees....

Not my youtube...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFUvhNQ25uQ

there is also a retro camper....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3xzyO9g1rs

7. i cant access youtube at the moment to see them, but most mini ag stuff works for pukifees size wize so they probably should.

8. That looks like play scale to me, so Pukifees would be like kids in it. My friend has Pukifees and they look beyond adorable in playscale-sized settings.

9. I love the camper! I've been reading up on the sizes for Mini American Girl/Our Generation dolls and apparently they are 7.3 inches tall? My 21cm doll is a little taller so I wonder how she would look in it.

10. Oh, wow! That camper is adorable!

11. My Realpuki Tyni (Timothy) lives in a gypsy wagon. It is perfect for a little guy on the go-even has a wee toilet!

[IMG]Timothy's caravan by Rosanne, on Flickr

12. Oh my gosh, that caravan is perfect!

13. is the caravan another calico critters?

14. And if you're patient enough to wait until they hit outlet stores like Tuesday Morning, you can score some seriously great rooms for super-cheap!

15. that's it, i'm moving to the states just to live next to a target lol!

16. I've been gathering things for Pip's (pukifee) new room. I found her a great scale bed (not pictured) but it arrived damaged so I'm just waiting for the new one to arrive.

17. When I was browsing through pictures of roomboxes I came across some that were made to be lofts and I instantly fell in love. It got my gears turning for making a loft of my own. I went and made a 3d mockup first to make sure the dimensions and scale were correct. (And I'm glad I did, because the loft was way too short in my initial plans) The pink card thing on the side is an approximation of my doll's height.

It will be some time before I actually get to building the thing as my time has been rather limited. Right now I'm just checking shops for the material I need. I am most likely going to a laser cutting service for the walls, but before that I need to build the floor/base.

• x 1
18. Thats neat! Did you 3D that in AutoCad?

19. It's Maya, got to make use of those 3d skills I picked up in uni. :)

20. A loft box!!!! Yeah! That's a great idea!!

21. that looks cool humbug. what size doll are you going to build it for?

22. How are you going to build it? I'm am liking this idea!

23. auntbear: My doll is 22cm. It'll be a somewhat under playscale size, but I got a bunch of Re-ment and Barbie accessories that still works great with her.

txchiclady : My plan is to go to a laser cutting service and cut the walls from there, I'd like my box to be wood and the shape is tricky as I don't have the proper tools for that. I can build the floor from scratch because an even square is much more doable. The rest will be using lots of coffee stirrer sticks and planks of balsa wood from the craft store. :)

Of course if the laser cutting doesn't pan out I could still use foam core for the walls, although it's less than ideal.

24. i've never heard of a laser cutting service. how does it work? do you just provide them with the wood and the plans and they cut for you? is it very expensive?

25. Humbug: that sounds wonderful so doable! Make sure you post some pictures!

26. auntbear: I've never actually seen a laser cut machine in action, but from what I understand it's a computerized machine that generates super hot lasers for precision cutting. It's why some wood kits have singed edges. I made some enquiries way back, and I've been told to submit the plans in either Adobe Illustrator or AutoCAD. They also said they have their own materials but I asked if they have plywood available.

Price-wise I have no idea how much my plans would cost; I'm still waiting for a reply, but I was shown a doily cut from plastic (or was it metal?) and it cost about (from converting my currency to USD) 2.50 USD. It may be different in other countries because the the dollar in my country is really weak now. But it seemed affordable to me.

txchiclady: Of course!

27. ours is really weak now too, but i should see if there is anyone locally who does that here. i don't have the tools or know-how to cut some of the stuff id like to build but would love to get some custom stuff done.

28. Can't that be done at a home improvement store? Maybe they could help you find someone who could do it inexpensively. Just an idea :)

29. as far as i know the home improvement stores just do straight cuts. they will cut a large piece you buy into smaller ones, but that's it. one of these days i want to take some woodworking courses, but right now my hubby and i are signed up to take photography instead. something we do together and it helps improve the doll pics i take.

30. auntbear: you might be able to find someone by asking around. A photography class does sound like a good class to do together. Maybe he would take woodworking with you also!

31. Target is revamping their mini Our Generation doll line. It's now called Lori by OG and there is a loft and 'glamper' camper that fits 16cm-22 cm tinies perfectly. This is the 'Rolling Glamper' with some updates I did using scrapbook paper --

[IMG]glamper reno by christina, on Flickr

It's for my Secretdoll Person Edie, a 1940's factory worker/sometimes 1950s glamour girl...

32. Aaah thats so cute! I want one in my own size XD

33. Arugh; envy fit! WANT GLAMPER! Not in my Target yet and four times the price on E-freaking-bay.

34. that glamper is cool! i havent seen the smaller our generation dolls up here yet but ill keep hoping!

35. Gah! I love the glamper! And I can't believe the jacked up prices on Ebay either. I unfortunately don't have Target in my country but my mum will be visiting my sister abroad and I asked her to keep a lookout.

36. Thanks for the glamper love, everyone! Here's Edie, my Secretdoll Person, and Mavis, irealdoll Enyo, inside. It works so well for them --

37. Ok, it's official. I'm neon green with the envy bug and just spend the past few hours hunting glampers. That sucker is sold out in California except for the stores in LA and I"m not driving 8 hours for anything less than cashing in a million dollar lottery ticket and since I don't haz that I'm just sitting here getting my sulk on. Your girls are so cute and retro!

38. Oh now that is adorable!! I'm diggin' the glamper idea too! Must look for this!!

39. Thanks! Wow, Californians knows a good camper when they see one, I guess. That's crazy pants!

Thanks! The more bjd campers there are, perhaps the more items they will make :)

I worked on the banquette today. Edie says it's softer on her can, so she appreciates it --

40. Oh I love the way you're customizing it! So cute!! I can't wait to get started on mine. Yes I am happy to report that I am no longer suffering from glamper envy. I HAZ GLAMPER! And I found the car, a patio set, a desk set and I'm hoping like the dickens the two outfits I bought fit my girls. And it only took a half an hour of phone calls, two cities, maybe thirty five miles driving and lots of shrieking and laughter. It was a fun morning. Oh and never assume that the non doll addicted sales person on the line has a clue what you're talking about and DPCI numbers solve everything.

41. congrats madera! (of course i'm still green with envy for both of you )

42. Congrats Madera! The glamper is amazing. I unfortunately decided to pass up on it. I've done some measuring and found that it's not quite to scale with my doll; the counter tops would just reach her crotch and the bench and bed would be up to her calves; that bothers me quite a bit. But I might try building my own glamper after I've completed my loft. I find the idea exciting. :D

43. Aw, that's too bad, but you do have that amazing loft plan and I can't wait to see how it turns out. I have so many dolls that I don't even have to worry about buying to scale things or clothes because somebody in my 127 doll crew can use or wear it. As it is I'm not going to put my Pukifee or brownie girls in it. It's going to my little rock star and his girlfriend; a Tinybear Moona and Bracken.

Where is the delete button on this thing?

44. LOL! Awesome! A dolly road trip is a great way to spend a morning. I got the desk and patio sets and outfits too. And a ballet studio ::sheepish grin:: I'm really pleased with this line, maybe a little too much... I also rely on the product code numbers -- it simplifies things and if it's not a box lot number it saves loads of time and frustration.

Thanks for the kind words on the glamper reno. I'd love to see your rock star take on it -- please share photos!

45. Icicle: Question; how did you take out the top shelf? I know it doesn't seem to be screwed down and I'm thinking about installing a bathroom so I'd need to get both of them out.

46. Thank you all for the plethora of ideas and information! Years ago I had all the materials to begin a garden cottage for my ED Min Del Re, Poppy Pepperpot. I was going to affix pebbles to the exterior for a cobblestone look but someone dumped may pail of perfectly picked pebbles on to a gravel driveway. It was weeks later when I was looking for them that I discovered this....and by that time they were already compacted into the driveway. Argh. Additionally, I messed up the structure so I have needed to start from scratch. We've bought a house and moved since that time so I haven't allotted any time for the project.

There are many ideas in here that will be far simpler and will consume less time than what I was planning. I am going to continue to scour this thread and develop a new plan. Many thanks!

47. I got my replacement bed, painted it, made a mattress and bedding. Finally have everything I need for Pip's room! Except now I need the actual room part o_o I was planning to just do a cardboard box but now I think I'd like something sturdier. Possibly wood, possibly using hinges to make it collapsible. I still want something I can fold up and put away. My little one is getting restless waiting for her room to be done!

48. the little triangle on the far left. you hit that and tell the mods vwhy you need the post deleted and they do it for you :)

the bed is really cute. ive seen some roomboxes done out of foamboard as an alternative. it is sturdier than cardboard, but easier to work with than wood, and easy to fold up.

49. Oh she is sooo cute! Are her toenails painted? (Ya, can't see hand in front of face without glasses).

Auntbear; thanks for the info!

50. My season sprites got a home finally. It's just made from two boxes that were meant to be hung on the wall. I glued them together and they look like a loft. It still needs a rope ladder or such and we thought a swing would be great.

[IMG]2015-09-18 042 by Aurinel Meyfarth, auf Flickr[/IMG]

Their neighbour to the right is Aava, my sea-fairy, and I will work on her lot, too.

51. Gatorboard is light weight but very stiff and doesn't warp like foam board. It doesn't fold though but the walls could be just taped together with masking tape to make it easy to take down for storage.

52. I have not heard of, or seen gator board. Where do you find that?

53. i hadn't heard of it either. do you have a link to what it looks like, by any chance?

54. Hm, looks like a higher quality higher density foam board. Interesting! I might wander the hardware store after work and look for ideas!

And yes, pip has pastel rainbow toes :)

55. I broke down today and bought the Lori OG loft dollhouse. I've always wanted a modern dollhouse! Here's some comparisons with a few of my tinies in case it helps anyone else thinking of getting one. I think I want to use other furniture with it, though - although the Lori desk is very cute and will find a home somewhere here.

56. Thanks for posting this I was wondering how if it would work with the pukifees .

Is the kitchen stationary or can it be moved?
I was thinking about getting this to make a tree house …

57. The kitchen is completely removable - except for those big yellow lights hanging down (which light up). They might be something you could remove if you didn't want them - I haven't turned it upside down yet to see if they could be unscrewed. The fridge is also separate from the L-shaped piece of kitchen with the stove and sink. That ugly sticker peels off the top floor as well. It's not really visible in this picture, but the roof is covered with a thin layer of that green carpet stuff - so that your dolls can have a little rooftop place to hang out. :)

58. Thanks for the info.....

I will have to get one and see what I can do with it.....

Looking forward to see what you have planned .
