Casting homemade presurepot, it works

Nov 14, 2010

    1. so a while ago, there has been a discusion here on making your own pressure pot. my father and I have been working on one for a while now and it is finished and functions now. we have sawed open a compressor tank and wellded on a steel donut for the round lid to match on. the lid attaches with eight bolds of which four have been disigned for fast closure. the other four can be screwed on while the compressor is allready building up the pressure. the lid is sealed with a layer of silicone (which works surprisingly well for keeping it airtight). we have been able to get it up to 7 bar (101 psi) without problems. I will get photo's posted as soon as possible

    2. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing some pix of the DIY pressure pot.

Do I understand you correctly? You have taken a working air compressor, cut one end off, and replaced it with a steel donut and lid that bolts down onto a silicon rubber gasket? So you pour your molds, place them inside the air compressor's tank, then bolt on the lid and turn the air compressor on? No hoses or connectors? The air compressor is the pressure pot?

    3. no, I took a broken compressor, did what you just said and put the pressure on with another compressor. It's safer because I can adjust the presure through the functioning compressor. it could have worked the way you said, but I didn't want to take the risk of ruining a functioning compressor...:o

    4. I'm hoping you have some WIP pix of this pressure pot? :arrr
Otherwise, some detailed pix of the finished pot with a lengthy explanation will suffice. ;)

I have a 5HP horizontal air compressor, and it has two gauges, one for the tank pressure,
and the other for the output pressure. Of course, I'm not sure how accurate they are?

Do molded resin castings have to be pressurized at a specific pressure, or anywhere between a range of pressures? 40lbs/sq.in., or 40-60lbs/sq.in.?

      Bumping my question up.
