Hello there everybody! I'm new here and I would like to share my home made BJD. My interest with BJD's started with my interest in Figure models (Anime). I was browsing for some Anime action figure when I saw a very beautiful figure created by Gentaro Araki,so I browsed Gentaro Araki's figure and then came across the unoa (BJD),from then on,I came across Volks BJD and many others,I became so inspired and decided to make my own BJD for the first time since I really wanted to make my own sculptures, fortunately,I found a supply store for the modelling and casting materails ( polyester resin ),polyurethane resins are not available here in my country. Here are some photos: I never seen an actual Volks BJD or any BJD before so I make my own measurments. This BJD is almost 17" tall. 43cm making the model using polymer clay opening the head,to engrave the eye holes making the hands no string attached making the molds using RTV silicon the torso the complete sitting Although the first cast is not that smooth,I used mini grinder and sand paper to smooth en the body. The eyes are also made of resin.
Well done!! She looks great! The only thing I can say you should work on is those air bubbles you can see on the torso picture next time you cast anything. I barely know squat about sculpting, but from the looks of your BJDs legs, Unoas have influenced you also. I would love to see her clothed, wiged and with a faceup if you don't mind ^_^. Oh yeah one more thing, this post better belongs in the Artist's Asian-styled BJD's section of the forum. Sorry I can't help you much, hopfully someone comes by soon who knows about sculpin.
oh you're right,I should post this on the Artist's Asian-styled BJD's section...this is my first time to post in the forum and I'm not sure if there is a way to transfer my post into the correct forum section. I'm now working on the "face-up" as well as the wig and the eyes...too bad i can't afford to buy an available eyes and wig so I have to create my own too. I'll post some pics when I'm done with the costume.
Don't worry about it, only moderators can move threads so I'll go ask one for you. And I'll be waiting for you to post your pictures ^_^.
 I can't see the photos for the reason of shield. Would you please send me with a e-mail if possible? [email protected] Thank you~
hello all, here are some other pics...hope you'll see her now. Thank you very much Mods. I'm working on her "face-up" and I'm having such a hard time doing it, it wasn't simple as doing a painting...I hope I could make a good face-up by making some experiments with pastel and acrylics.Thank you all for your very kind comments.
Ah, it seems like you have exceeded your bandwidth at geocities XD could you upload them to other image hosts instead please? ^^ I'd really like to see her too! http://www.imageshack.us http://www.photobucket.com http://www.walagata.com Any of the above would work well~ ^^
I started working on her mid of november. I already have 3 sets including the first cast and a white one ( white resin / to be painted as a rei ayanami plug suit). I have a regular day job that's why I don't have much time making and casting the parts. I'll post again some pics of her with home made wig and costume. regards!
That was really my first intension, but after extensive labor ( casting / sanding / drilling holes not to mention that the parts are so hard to drill because it is made of polyester resin ( 6105 cultured marble) I'm afraid I may not be able to make lots of copies. Another sad thing is,I'm planning to work on a cruise ship next month so I have no more time making BJD.
It seemed a shame that so many people couldn't see your doll, so I have uploaded the pics to a photobucket account here: http://photobucket.com/albums/c236/kelladry/ If you want me to take them down, I'll do so asap, of course. Feel free to link to the account as a mirror, if you want!
thanks keladry~ She looks pretty!!Good Job! I want to see more photos of her with a face up and wig ~
Oh my goodness! She's gorgeous! I too would love to see how she'll look with a face up! I'm starting to feel like I want to make my own BJD too! Tho I know mine will NEVER come out as good as this! :big eyes Awesome work
Oh...my....GOD. She's beautiful!!!! I wish I could do that... sosososo bad! ;_; I envy your mad skills.. I wish you had instructions because that is probably the -best- homemade BJD I've ever seen.. And I really would love to make one! XD
Wow, she's gorgeous~! I'm impressed that you made her just from looking online. She really is beautiful. Good job~
She is REALLY amazing!! I especially love her torso sculpt . . . wow, you're very talented, and you've obviously worked hard on her!! *applause* I'd love to see her when you're done painting -- Andi
she is wonderful!!! I love her long slender lines... I'm trying to get the courage up to try casting one... you inspire me. will love to see her when you've done the faceup...
Hello everyone! here are some new pics, with wig and face-up. This is my first time to do a face-up,using only pencil for the eyebrows and old pastels for the blush (I'm still looking for a "liner" so I could use acrylic paints to do the lips and the eyebrows.) The skirt is madae out of handkerchief, the jacket is made out of used kakhis, the wig is made out out cheap childrens hair accesories sewn into a leatherette material, cut to fit the head. The wig is a not that thick but it looks natural on her...I guess so.The shoes are also hand made, the solde are also resin cast then covered with a leatherette material, glitters were added to make some designs. http://photobucket.com/albums/c256/niko60n/
Oh,thank you for your comment. I already made her wig and a trial face-up. http://photobucket.com/albums/c256/niko60n/
sorry niko60n, I realized that I just didn't read all the replys and so didn't know that she's been completed...^^o Every part of her is wonderful!
She is very thin and pretty, I like her look! ^__^ Her face is also very nice! When you casted the parts how did you make them hollow? O_O
She's so beautiful! *loves on her* I envy your sculpting skills. I actually like her better than Unoa. :-) What eyes is she wearing, btw? I'd like to know too. Did you use a spincaster? I think that you can use a spincaster to make smaller hollow resin stuff, like little toys. Unless I'm totally confused and don't know what kind of machine I'm talking about. Which is possible. It's happened before. @o@;;
She's a solid cast,I used electric drill to make the hole for the strings. This is the reason why she is a bit heavy. The material I used was Resin 6105 (cultured marble) making it a bit hard to drill, but after lots of patience,I was able to drill every parts, the resin is not that brittle and don't easily break when droped. She is so durable... Her eyes are made of polymer clay, painted and then coated with a clear nail polish. Doll eyes are not available here in our country. I also started creating eye molds but I don't have the clear resin yet to make duplicates. I'll post again some new pics with new outfit. Many thanks for your great comments.
I would love to have one she is so beautiful I would honestly get in touch with some companies and see if they need sculptors for dolls so you can design what you want but don't have to go through the extensive labor of casting molds and then the copies ^_^
I like her leggy look, so cute! She looks great in the long black wig and clothes you made! ^__^ Waaa...you are so cool to cast the parts to easily...*I hope I can do that someday too!*
niiicce! thought he final cast looks a little rough.. maybe some more sanding would have helped? she looks fantastic though! want to take me on as an apprentice
