Ok so I THOUGHT I had everything figured out but I'm not sure I thought this through. Is it possible to make a hollow cast of a not jointed torso? I don't mind having to break the inner mold or whatever but I just can't figure out what to use for the life of me! Straws aren't dynamic enough, would idk, coated styrofoam work? I made it without a joint bc I liked the aesthetics of it but now I'm worrying and thinking about adding one (and scared of cutting through my 99% finished master)
It is possible, as several doll companies have single piece torsos. As to how, I can't say for certain. I know roto-casting is a thing, but I've never attempted it.
I did something similar for the head I'm making, I kept cutting into the headcap and getting it wrong, so I fused the headcap to the head, mounted it on a bust piece, made a brush mold and slush casted the whole thing with quick-curing resin. It worked out ok, and I felt better cutting into the copies I made instead of the master. The resin has to be quick-curing, or you'll be there spinning the mold for hours trying to get the resin to harden. Let me know if this sounds confusing!
Wow that sounds so cool! I bought very quick curing resin so it might be feasible to do. It had never crossed my mind! I should probably practice with simpler pieces first and familiarize myself with casting as a whole, but I'm definitely going to try it out! Thanks a ton!!!
