For me, bjd's are a vehicle for realizing my vintage wardrobe dreams and fashion designs (in a more tangible form than just drawing). I'm always plotting out what materials I could turn into what clothing items, which bjd's I want in the future to match planned-out wardrobes, etc. etc. The execution of those plans is another thing, haha

I have way too many to list! I have several other creative hobbies I cycle through (most consistently: pixel art), and I also love to learn things (about culture & history, but also science), and enjoy various media... my website gives a decent overview, although I'm noticing now I left "food" and "old movies" off that list...

I try to live by anti-consumerist & environmental values, and also am pretty tight financially, so I'd probably get along best with someone who has a more minimalist approach to the hobby. (Unless you're willing to spread the wealth around) (I'm kidding) (...mostly)
I can be a little too direct sometimes, and have strong opinions on things, but I promise I'm not mean!!

I've been watching a lot of ballet recently—it is December after all. I especially enjoyed Roland Petit's Carmen, and am looking forward to watching his Coppelia next.
Of course this has inspired me to create a concept for a ballet based on Dutch folklore, and now I'm down a rabbit hole of researching folk dance, historical costume, etc. etc.

I'm mainly interested in bouncing ideas off each other or sharing project progress that's too trivial for a DoA post. So... whenever that kind of thing comes up? But won't say no to a meme either!
Since I do tend to cycle between hobbies (and also have ongoing health stuff), I might be periodically less active, but will always respond to messages. And/or: I'm open to discussing non-bjd creative projects/interests when on a bjd break

Your preferred bjd types, your favorite aspects of the hobby: I love old school dolls because they're very nostalgic to me and enjoy crafting/restoring the most. I also like taking photos of them every now and then.

A few other hobbies or interests if you have them I enjoy making other kinds of art and engaging with music mainly, I also love playing videogames. I knit and sew for human sizes, too Way back when, I used to do pixel art and dab in digital painting, but almost exclusively draw/paint/sculpt traditionally these days.

I've been parked in the no-buy thread for quite a while because I don't like owning too many things, and try to work on my buying habits, so being in this hobby is sort of confusing to me sometimes haha. I am often thinking of how not to overwhelm myself these days, and how to use (up) things I already have to make something new. I've also been thinking lots about how to use social media less and make internet a fun place to be in again this year, as it sometimes feels like a pretty bleak place, I think (I miss the "old" internet and hobby forums like DoA a lot).

I got actively into this hobby while being very interested in puppet making/puppet theatre, and it's still something I think about often; my big theatre interest before that was alternative opera, though.
I've been (re)watching lots of 2000-2010s anime in the past couple of years, too, and think about RGU and Chobits often.

I am open to any kind of frequency or form of correspondence, and have enjoyed writing longer letters to pen pals in the past, but I also don't mind back and forth real-time chatting either. I like 1/4th size dolls as they feel more manageable space-wise. I love sewing and sculpting, and have worked as a professional photo/digital artist for many years but recently have found myself in a non-arts position and am enjoying getting to play around with art forms that don't generate income for me, like BJD! I find making tiny clothes to be so fun and satisfying. It's much quicker to put something together for a doll rather than a full size person!

A few other hobbies or interests if you have them:
I'm generally interested in most art forms, sculpture, ceramics, and sewing being my favorites. I also keep a Walstad-style aquarium, houseplants, and I draw, paint, and garden. I'm interested in storytelling from an archetypal, social point of view, and love to read. Lately I've been reading a lot of medical papers, which are fascinating and useful. I'm especially interested in microbiota and how all living things are interconnected. Previously I've read almost exclusively science fiction and fantasy.

I love figuring out how to make things myself, and am an avid thrifter. I'm also immunocompromised so am trying to find ways to be social while staying healthy, and have been picking up old hobbies like forums, anime, and manga. I'm watching Strawberry Panic, Ruri Rocks, and anything cute with queer characters. I miss the old internet and have been kicking around the idea of building my own website for a while. There are too many fun and fascinating things to do in life and I flit about between interests frequently.

I went to Meow Wolf in Denver, Colorado a few years ago and the music they play in the installation calmed me down so much, so I looked into it and they are at specific frequencies that foster creativity and nervous system growth. I've gotten really into listening to different brain wave state music. I had no idea that as humans develop our brains function at different wavelengths, and that children function at wavelengths that adults usually only access during sleep. It's such interesting research and really helped me understand the development of consciousness & nervous systems from a different angle.

A few other hobbies or interests if you have them Even outside of BJDs, I enjoy sewing, knitting, embroidery, and other textile art. Other hobbies of mine are cooking, baking, and reading. I'm a writer and editor, and have written and published both fiction and non-fiction. I'm working on several writing projects at the moment. I'm also a massive geek for history and East Asian cultures, and have degrees in these fields.

Some personal traits that you identify with or are influencial in your life right now When I say I'm an avid reader, I started 2025 with a goal of finishing at least 52 books. I've finished over 70, and I'm still going. One of my book projects involves my love of cooking and delicious food, and I'm working on a lecture on fashion history.

A random thing or two you're especially interested in lately, or maybe: favorite music, last movie/show you saw or book you read I'm finally watching the anime "Raven of the Inner Palace," and am miffed that it took me so long to get into it. I enjoy the story, character designs, and Queen Bee, the band who does the opening song.

What a lovely idea although I will warn people in advance that I go through phases of not wanting to talk to anyone, or sometimes wanting to but finding actually doing so overwhelming that I become very withdrawn. I’m also very open about certain things I believe people need to talk about more.

Tinies mainly, have a fair few Fairyland ones. Some MSD and a couple of SD. Most of my dolls are either cheeky little pixies or rather sullen and sulky. I don’t really do ‘normal’ or frilly. I’m influenced a lot by fantasy, sci-fi and myths.
Favourite aspects of the hobby are probably watching the doll’s character emerge as I do their faceups and taking photos.

Very amateur photography, the natural world, science, gaming (mainly fantasy rpg and MMOs), gardening, drawing, fish keeping, watching sci-fi and fantasy stuff, being bullied by our 4 small parrots!

At my age the various joys of the menopause and the chaos it brought are very much the main influences on my life. Part of that was discovering that I am in fact AuDHD which explains so many of the struggles I went through and still battle. It also recently resulted in a close call health wise which involved surgery.
I struggle with clinical depression and anxiety too.
I have a very childlike sense of wonder and curiosity and an odd sense of humour.

Over half my collection are 1/4 girls, and the rest are YoSD and smaller. I am toying with the idea of getting a 1/3 doll again, but I haven’t kept the other two so maybe I shouldn’t lol I have a lot of Fairyland dolls, I really love their aesthetic I like to think most of my dolls are magical or fairies in some way. I do a lot of sewing for them, and sometimes knitting too. I want to design more knitwear for dolls. I’ve shared a few so far, and I’m currently working on a sweater for Minifee.

I’ve been knitting a lot lately! Lots of sweaters and some mittens and hats. And I’ve been sewing retro style dresses for my Silkstone Barbie.

I’m a mom of two! Both are in the toddler stage and I stay home with them. (And yes I’ve gone a little crazy lol) Also we are a military family, which kind of rules our life, but I’ve learned to go with the flow (mostly)

I'm shy, and my social anxiety makes it difficult for me to maintain contact for extended periods. I try my best, but sometimes I might not write for a while. I'm a mom of two kiddos and lots of kitties so sometimes life can get a bit busy. I love creating characters and world building. My family and I have dabbled a bit in DnD, definitely not an expert and ascribe to the rule of fun.

I really like SD size, but I am not opposed to smaller. I just like the art and customability of it all. Right now I am creating a character that will be the personification of the illnessses in my body (depression, anxiety, POTS). I am just looking at sculpts and saving for him right now.
