Hello! I'm Duck, or rather, that's what I go by here. I'm brand new to BJDs. I found out that they existed after watching a random YouTube video that popped up on my FYP. A few Google searches later, and hooray, now my broken brain has latched on to yet another interest I cannot afford! Jokes aside, I am already starting to save up for one. It will take me a while to be able to afford my first doll (or even my first doll head, I guess), but I'm excited to be able to afford one. Currently, I'm a big fan of semi-realistic (manhua-ish? the ones I like tend to remind me of the TGCF manhua. I don't know if there's an actual name for this style) BJDs. I don't really like the ones with childish faces. I've never been fond of that sort of doll. I'm currently saving up for if I ever find a Switch Kaien secondhand. I found out that he existed after seeing a doll clothes listing on Alice's Collections and asking around to see if I could find out which sculpt the doll was. There was something very magical about that doll, and although I'd already seen a different, cheaper one on Denver Doll Emporium and had thought something like "Well, here's this cheap doll that looks sort of interesting and isn't too large...why not save up for that one?", I knew that Switch Kaien was The One. So now I have a goal in mind. I'm happy to be here on this forum, and hope that I can make new acquaintances with the same interest!
Welcome Duck, to the forum and the hobby Saving up for your first doll is so exciting, I wish you good luck finding your Switch Kaien when you've got the money saved up. Switch makes beautiful dolls and they are worth saving up for. There are some Switch collectors here on the forum, I see their brand heads pop up in the MP frequently. When you've earned the MP access, I think this is a great place to post up a WTB for your Kaien. They also appear sometimes in Japanese reseller stores like Dollyteria and Mandarake so that's another place you can keep your eyes on. Just take care to do your due diligence regarding authenticity in all cases. Stick with your goal!!! But that's not to say that your "the one" will never become "the two..." I don't know if there's a name for it either, although in my head I've been thinking it as manhua-style too. It's a cute look
Thank you! I ended up magnifying the images of the doll I saw and various photos and videos of Switch Kaien's head, and I don't think it's quite the same doll anymore. The features have small differences (nose bridge, brow, mouth, eye shape), and the face shape is also a bit different. They are very similar, but I now see that Switch Kaien isn't exactly what I want--I would like to find the doll sculpt in that first picture I saw. The search goes on. But I will definitely keep an eye out on the Marketplace! I'm very happy to know that this forum exists.
Oh! Ha, ignore my PM! I see, so maybe it's a different sculpt that was misidentified. If you can find the picture, maybe you can show it to the Switch thread oops, I mean, post in Photo Reference, I forgot that's the right subforum for it. and some Switch collectors can help you correctly ID it! /forums/photo-reference.19/
Hi! I'm also new here, but welcome! My name is Hygzy. Switch Kaien is so stunning. I love his face sculpt, and I don't blame you. I hope you're able to get him soon The One is always special.
Hello! Welcome! Those dolls aren't necessarily my thing, but there are some really beautiful Luts and Ringdoll. And they're often so big, I bet they're a lot of fun to dress and display ) Kaien has such a stunning faceup.
