Hi from an Okie!!!

Jul 2, 2024

    1. I go by Stella, and I live in Oklahoma, I've been in this hobby for a little while but I never got on DOA because it was invite only the few times I looked into it. I got my first doll, Saoirse, in 2018 and then got pretty busy with school and medical issues, so I sort of fell out of the hobby for a couple years, though I still loved/love Saoirse. But I'm back and in it for the long haul! I just got my second doll a few months ago, and now I'm trying to upgrade Liva and Saoirse's wardrobe.

I love to crochet and sew in my free time, as well as arts and crafting in general. My favorite media is colored pencil on mixed media, but I also like ceramics a lot!

I hope to get a lot better at making clothes for my dolls, all my sewing experience is with stuffed animals so I'm sure you can imagine how well making tiny clothes is going for me, haha.

I'm also hoping to get the courage to re-string Liva, because I'm pretty sure she's strung too tight. I've never needed to re-string Saoirse, so I'm not really sure how to do it.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to growing my doll family and being an active part of this community!

    2. Hello from a Kansas neighbor!

If you choose to restring your own dolls, definitely grab some forceps if you can (they lock and hold the tension on the elastic). There are hook-y stringing tools too, Denverdoll has them in the US. Even having done it a lot, it’s still kind of troublesome, but it’s a great skill to have as a hobbyist!

You can also show off your sewing & crochet in the Workshop section. I love following others’ project journals!

    3. Thank you so much! I'm pretty sure I've heard of Denverdoll's before so I'm sure I'll be able to acquire the supplies needed, and the forceps sound really helpful. Then I just need to get over my fears and actually re-string her from there:sweat

    4. Welcome back, look forward to meeting your dolls and projects. and a tip, if your Liva is new or has new elastic, you can loosen her strings a bit by sitting or kneeling her for display for a while and posing the arms bent up if they are tight too. A bit of tension on them will help to relax new strings. :3nodding: of course, if she's still too tight for you, don't be scared to restring, there's lots of tutorial to help you, and friendly collectors to ask questions. It's a good skill to learn anyway. But I usually sit my dollies for a while after getting them and they get a bit looser, saves me the fuss until it's really necessary :whee:

    5. Welcome back, I'm Emily Dawn! I was in and out of the hobby as well for the same reasons. I love crochet and will be trying to sew more after moving house! I love your girl Saoirse! She's so cute! I'm waiting on my second doll's body right now, after a very long time of having just one and a floating head! Lol! ♡ I hope your restringing goes well, I'm afraid to do it myself! ♡

    6. Hi and welcome from your northern KS neighbor! We're almost the same age- I'm less than a year older. Got my first girl in 2018 too, right before school started in August.
It looks like Liva is a Mei? She's a pretty popular resinsoul sculpt and one of the "classics" of the hobby. If you ask around on the resinsoul mini thread or check youtube, you can likely find some guides or advice. While I'm not great at restringing, I have restrung a couple other resinsouls. They aren't hard. The engineering is pretty simple so it's more a question of tension. If it doesn't go right the first time, you can redo it pretty easily. My first resinsoul restringing happened when Bella's hand s hook slipped, so I didn't get much of a vote :sweat
I'll second the hemostats. Never tried them, but I likely will need to the next time. I tried using just a thick crochet hook last time and hurt my wrist (and bent the hook, the real tragedy here.) You'll have the elastic under high tension, so something to help hold it will be a huge help. And not going as tight as physically possible...

    7. Welcome back here! I love crochet too, and make crochet clothes and shawls for my dolls ^^

    8. I am an Okie too!
