My name is Connie and I am an multimedia artist and writing professor. About a year ago I went back to ceramics after being away from it for 25 years. I did not want to throw pots instead I wanted to sculpt. I have never really sculpted before. After hand-building a few pots, lamps, dishes, and bowls I decided to try my hand at making dolls. I did one in stone-ware dressed it and I was happy. At that point I made a decision to just make dolls. I read every book from the library. I began hunting on the Internet and found ball-jointed-dolls. On Ebay I ordered one and have been trying to make them in porcelain. I have made 6 dolls and failed at ball-joints. (Forgot to put holes in it.) I bought Ryo Yoshida book on dollmaking and found that very helpful. Although it is written in Japanese, it is filled with pictures so well taken that the language is not an hinderance. I will post some pictures next week. Now here is a question. I have a Dremel tool and a very small diamond drill bit but I can not drill a hole deep enough for my doll. Does anyone know if a larger masonry bit will work? I am trying to drill porcelain bisqueware. If I can not drill this doll it too will enter the graveyard. I am making an installation "CSI Style" that will have my buried dolls. So far, I will have buried two...I will let the viewer dig them up with the tools I will provide. I have made the torso for a 7th doll. I have the heads (2 that I will use.)
