Heya!

Aug 28, 2024

    1. Hi!
I'm in a bit of a weird situation - I technically registered 7 years ago, but this is my first time posting!
My name's Azra (he/him), I'm 23, and I'm from a small country in Central Europe where BJDs have yet to spread the way they have in the US. Shipping is a nightmare, haha.

I really enjoy the customization aspects of the hobby, and love doing faceups, sewing clothes, making props, whatever I can do to bring my dolls to life :) I've been dipping my toes into making my own dolls, too - Adrien, the one on my icon, is a custom head on a DC A-body 03 (though he'll get a new head soon and i'm thinking of re-shelling his body... Ship of Theseusing this poor man lol).

This is also why I've come to the forums - I'm currently working on a doll of another OC whose body type I couldn't find pre-made, especially in the scale I needed, so I sculpted their torso and am hunting for some junk arms and legs to Frankenstein on there.

My favorite companies are Dollzone and Doll Chateau, I love how fragile and ethereal their dolls look. My biggest grail doll's DZ's Freddy-2, whom i'm lucky enough to own now! A close second is Story of Seventh Day's Seth. I'm also fascinated by Angel Philia dolls, though I'm not sure if I'd ever like to own one.

I'm looking forward to my time here! :)

    2. Hey there and welcome to the forum! I was about to ask about your default head, I love unique sculpts so much. Can’t wait to see some of your work and hope to see more posted later.

    3. Thank you so much! :D

    4. Hello! I love Doll Chateau and DZ too :))) Things are out of hand and I own three DC (although I only have one right now, the others are still in transit). I don't paint, but I imagine their sculpts are joys to work with. Angel Philias often look silly when their tongues are out, but some of their sculpts, such as Ellie, are just darling <3

    5. Hi! I also registered 6 or so years ago but haven't posted much anything so I understand :XD: I'm the same age as you and from Europe too, so fun coincidences I guess.

Absolutely love the Adrien's face you've got in your profile picture! The long face is so beautiful, and I love the vibe of the photo very much. I do adore unique features on dolls. Do you have more pictures of Adrien posted anywhere?

Please post a picture of the custom body when it's ready - or maybe even progress pictures if you feel like it!

I can definetely agree on Dollzone and especially Doll Chateau dolls being absolutely beautiful. I own none though, a shame really. I like their exaturated and otherworldly features, though they have tend to have small noses, and I prefer my dolls with more pronounced ones if I can help it (Karmanavtica Faustus is great example).

I would say welcome to the forum but I'm just as much a newbie as you are! :XD:

    6. Woah, that's one hell of a coincidence! :D

Thank you!! I don't have any photos of him uploaded right now. I've really got to get my camera out and take some nice ones!

And yeah, "otherwordly" is such a good word for it! They're got this... serene kind of grace? I do sometimes envy people with more "standard" dolls, though, must be nice having such a wide wardrobe selection! Maybe one of these days I'll get a therapy Minifee to play dress-up with or something, lol.

I looked up Karmanavtica Faustus, and WOW what a uniquely handsome sculpt! I can definitely see why you like him. So much character!

Here's to being old newbies! :D

    7. Omg, congratulations!! I hope you'll love them as much as I love mine <3 I actually get so nervous painting them, I feel like going too heavy can drown out all the little intricacies of the sculpt. But it's certainly satisfying when it turns out right!

Yeah, I agree some of the AP heads can be a bit... much, but Elle's precious! My favorite is the Type-L head, there's something so charming about the longer nose and the slightly open mouth with those doe eyes!

    8. The one I have is wonderful, so I'm sure I'll like the others too! I've seen a lot of people do beautiful paint work on sculpts like Alberta and Xaviera. I bet Larry's shell would be a lot of fun.

Aww, I just looked up type L. She's gorgeous! Her little lips remind me of those traditional Japanese dolls. I really like their sculpts that are more subdued, but look a little bashful. Weirdly, I find it makes them more expressive, and still very unique.

    9. Hello, nice to meet you! I really like DC dolls too and would love to own one eventually. The long ethereal bodies are very appealing and I love all the fantasy sculpts. Good luck on your hybrid project for your OC! It sounds like you have many unique dolls.
