Dawn is attempting to find out more about the "heretic" that killed the Vespin minister. She has decided that the Golden Eagle Apothecary would be a dead end at this point as it's unlikely that the proprietor would actually provide any information if he is aligned with the heretic and she doesn't know anything to possibly catch him in a lie.

Instead she is asking around at the inns closer to Singard on the route to Vespi as her previous investigations before she met with the mayor had been limited to inns closer to Vespi where the heretic's first fight with the minister supposedly occurred.

We join her in one such inn late in the afternoon.



*Dawn reaches up to brush the hand of the man she's talking with off her shoulder for at least the third time.* "So you haven't heard anything about a new source of metal? I mean some say it's worth going to war over. Doesn't that concern you?"

Man: "Why all this talk of ministers, metals, and war? I'm more interested in love."



*Just then an employee of the inn Dawn had previously spoken with approaches.* "Excuse me Ms."

Dawn: "Oh, did you remember something?"



Employee: "Sorry, no. I just need to ask if you're going to get a room. We're filling up already."

Man: "She doesn't need a room. She'll be staying in mine."



Dawn: "I should really be heading on. How long until sunset?"

*The man reaches up and strokes Dawn's ear as he speaks.* "Hmmm, I wonder. Is it true that bedding pointy-eared folk such as yourself extends one's lifespan?"



Dawn: "What is your problem you creep???"

Man: "No problem. I'm quite enjoying myself."



Dawn: "Never mind the time. Are you going to let this creep stay here and paw people all night?"

Employee: "Yes. He's already paid for several rooms and additional space in the common room as well."

*The man tries to take hold of Dawn's hand.* "They know an important man when they see one. Now tell me, what other parts of you are special? Or maybe don't. We wouldn't want to ruin the surprises for later tonight."



*Dawn jumps up pulling her arm out of the man's hand.* "Ugh. I really should be pressing on anyway. Where's my cloak?"

Employee: "This way Ms."

Man: "Don't go. I haven't checked someone like you off my list yet."



Dawn: "You know maybe war isn't such a bad thing if it makes vermin like you to scurry back to Vespi."

Man: "Cheers to war then. I'll be sure to keep an eye on the slave blocks for you after we've won. It will be quite fun breaking that spirit of yours if you survive."

*Dawn just shakes her head in disgust then turns to follow the employee to get her cloak.*

 

The enthusiastic discussion around the formats, and commenting etc. were enough to give me hope. I must say this story totally went off the rails of my vague initial plan. I guess I'll have to do that plan later, or at least try again.

Yeah it's a lousy job in many ways. And she even had long pants on and her top closed up this time.

Well she has no information about Lucius so doubtful she'd talk to him. As to Gareth, look at how he spoke to Pris and Seth when they came in for his typical level of enthusiastic conversation.

 

Yeah someone likely remembers him. If he was discrete he wouldn't have started the trouble with the Vespins to begin with.

No one else chimed in in support of that and I'm not sure how it's an improvement from comments per story myself. So unless others express support or convince me of an advantage I figured I'd leave it as is.

 

Do you mean less modest? Or do you think more modest would have encouraged even worse behavior?

Well on her path of inns down to Vespi she is very unlikely to find anyone but Kano. When Gareth and crew went to rescue him they never stayed in any of the inns.

Maybe. It might also split the conversation into a bunch of fragments with different people though.

 

The stories don't get many views unless there are comments. Then people view them again to read the comments. (Well, those with any interest of course.) It can make a small number of people seem like a large number. I don't actually know if the word Hesvar is a plus or a minus in the title though. Anyway, it's fixed now.

Yep the "necklace" has made it's way down into the shirt gromets where it belongs. And probably good she ditched the short skirt for some pants too as it gets really cold traveling. Apparently all of that still isn't enough to deter the creeps though.

Kano is likely more memorable as he's more outgoing. But Kano and Sam went the opposite direction from Vespi when they went to visit Lucius. Sam has never been in any of the inns in the direction of Vespi (which would be south).

I honestly don't know the answer of whether it would help or hurt.

He seemed willing to wait for the "right" opportunity.

Well it was at the top of the post at least. Anyway I've fixed the title now as well.

 

It doesn't seem like large wardrobes are much of a thing on Hesvar. Pris is really the only shown to have a lot of different outfits, likely from or because of her job as an entertainer.

Yep the map as revealed (created) so far is pretty simple.

South <-- Vespi <--- Singard ---> Mylos --> North.
Big river runs along this route.

The distance to Mylos from Singard compared to Vespi has never even been specified.

Fortunately unlike trying to convert to comic mode my stories don't require any alterations to go into VN mode it's just a different way of presenting the same information from the database. So it's easy to have both options available from my website.

It was more work than it should have been. Especially making the settings and instructions. Such a minor part of the actual experience that the effort involved to make a responsive layout seemed like total overkill.

 

Yeah I'm sure many of Pris's outfits were gifts / I want you to look this way items from clients.

Well, no plans to go east or west, but that doesn't mean much given the general lack of plans.

You can set the text pace is the settings menu to be faster up to turning off the animation entirely.

 

I think Seth is a good and simple man, so he probably just wants Pris in his life.

 

Agreed. Honestly until he married Pris I don't think Seth even knew what was out there he could request.

 

You mean the marriage license story? Or the one where he proposes?

 

Glad you enjoy it. I always enjoy the marriage license one. I guess it shows a somewhat less flattering side of Seth.

 

No lack of orphans on Hesvar. And yes it's definitely more funny than melty. I wasn't saying it was a replacement, just one I really enjoy.

 

Somehow I feel that on Hesvar that's such a low low low bar.
