Jointing Help regarding Noah doll's joints?

Feb 9, 2006

    1. I'm in the progress of making a doll using the techniques in the Noah doll tutorial, and I was wondering if anyone knows why it directs you to thread piano wire in the joints? There's no reason given, and is it necessary?

      Thankyou ^_^

    2. I personally never used it. But apparently it's used to support the elastics (I might not have the right translation here), so when the doll sits down the elastic is really at 90 degrees.
You can see it on the same page, but it's not big enough to be clear:

I saw the same thing somewhere else and that's why they were using it.

But most people jump over that part. If your doll is well designed and well sculpted, you won't really need it.

    3. Its pretty much the same concept as the Volks Magic Poles.

    4. Can you explain the magic poles? There was an entry in Aimee's faq, but it linked to a defunct page, and I've always wondered about it..

    5. Thanks for helping :) I was really confused... @_@

    6. Magic Poles are just bits of firm steel wire that are implanted into the knee and sometimes hip joints. You drill a hole all the way across the ball and slide the wire in etc. etc. They force the elastic to either the front or the back of the joint (I don't remember which, but I THINK its to the front) which is supposed to help dolls stand.

The elastic can't shift as much causing crazy leg falling down syndrome.
