I have been having problems with my doll's hip joints being uncontrollable and weak. Only the hip joints are this way. I need them to be stronger, or this doll will never hold a good pose. I'm thinking the problem has to do with the way I'm stringing her up for tests. I don't know the proper way to do elastic stringing. If I knew the right way, I would know whether or not that is the problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I would love a link at least. I just want to see some pictures or blueprints. Google has failed me with this.
What exactly are you doing? There are a few ways but this method is most common: View attachment 374 I don't have a tablet any more so I'm sorry if it's unclear-- but basically the black bars are the metal bars in the joints, make sure the elastic is on the correct side of the bars, that will help. There are two loops of elastic, one for the arms and one for the head/torso/legs. Having the proper size of elastic also helps! If you find that the jointing is really weak even though you've got her correctly strung, and strung tightly, you may have to move up a millimeter in size. I thought one of my dolls was a crap poser until I changed the elastic and hey presto, all the joints started working like they were supposed to.
Thank you! This was just what I was looking for. I am trying to do a test stringing for a paperclay girl, just to see if everything works. I've read that wire-strung dolls are better, though, so I'm not planning to use elastic in the end if I can help it.
