Help! Is this a crack or a seam line?

Apr 18, 2011

    1. Hello.. I am new here, and thank goodnes.. My first Puki Fee Ante arrived today, and as I was doing the box opening and unveiling, I noticed her top arms, where the two halves (?) must be put together, looks like an awful crack! I don't know if this is normal or not, she's my first and I hate to complain, and I love her already.. but I can tell this would totally ruin her for adopting out and I am thinking it will annoy me when she's in short sleeves cause it's an eye sore..

What to do??? Call DDE, or let it be.. I don't know!! I'd hate to send her back, but I don't want a broken girl.. especailly cause I paid enough for her. ACK! I took some photos and will try to post one to my photo stream then link it back here..

    2. Contact Dollfairyland and post some pics. It's up to them to replace it. Putting some pics up on the forum (not here in general discussion btw) could clarify whether it is a crack or not.

    3. you got her from denver doll emporium?? yes, contact them right away! the sooner the better, because they will want to know she arrived that way in shipping, and that you didn't do anything to her to cause that crack. they usually respond very quickly.

    4. Most likely this is just a seamline, which is pretty much a standard thing on resin dolls. If it bothers you it can be sanded, but it will not in any way affect resale value like you think.
Do you mean it is a vertical line along her upper arm part, that looks to be where the mold lined up when the arm was cast? If yes...then this is indeed a seam line.
ETA: Looked at your pic, and yes, that is just a seamline, nothing to worry about. Searching 'seam' or 'seamline' in the painting and esthetics subforum will bring up threads on sanding them, and suchlike. =3

    5. Yes, I figured it was were the 2 half came together, but it looks bad and is not flush. The other arm is flush and is not bad looking at all. That's why I am concerend.

    6. hi there. yes, this is normal. most dolls i believe come with seam lines. about half of mine have them. ^_^ if it really bothers you it wouldn't hurt to mention it to DDE, though they may not do anything, as this is considered normal. your doll is not damaged though.

    7. Yup this is pretty normal. Since your doll is a normal skin tone you can sand it off if it bothers you. There are lots of tutorials on how to go about that in the workshop section of the forums.

    8. Totally normal. You can sand it or pay someone to have it sanded. DDE will not do anything about it because that is how all dolls come although some are more pronounced than others. Volks has seam lines unless you pay to have them sanded but I think they are less noticeable than other companies. Look in the aesthetics section of the forum there are tutorials on how to remove them.

    9. Absolutely normal and certainly not something you should complain about. Either you read up on all sanding tutorials you can lay your mitts on right away and disassemble her and take care of this right away - it tends to feel scary at first, but you'll feel ever so proud having done it! Done forget to stock up on protection from the resin dust though. Or you can just live with it until you've gotten a bit more experience in a year or so...

      Welcome to the hobby! ;)

    10. Thanks!! It does sound like everyone agrees, and this is a normal seam. Thanks for all the imput. Hugs and Hooray for a supportive thread! Mandy

    11. If you are unable to do the job yourself, you could take her to a local meetup if you have them in your area. Someone is bound to be there who can help you or get you started.
