Maintenance Help! How do I string an old volks doll?

    1. I got this old volks doll awhile back, I think from 1999, she came unstrung. I’ve been trying to string her but the metal rods in the hands and feet are really far down and I can’t figure out how to string the elastic through the hands and feet. Do I need to bend some wire into long s-hooks? Or should I string elastic through the rods somehow? I’ve attached some photos of insides the hands and feet. I can’t find any tutorials for a doll this old although I’m sure they’re out there I’m not sure where to look. Any help would be appreciated! :)

    2. On old Volks dolls (and some old dolls in general) the hands and feet were tied onto the elastic loops with a piece of string. You make a loop (longer than an s-hook would be) and tie a tight knot - you have to cut the string to remove them/restring. You should be able to guide the thread through with a thin piece of wire. (Also, this always works for a doll you don't have fitting s-hooks for!)

    3. Instead of S-hooks, the original volks dolls used looped string like Glace Leau said. There are old stringing guides that came with the dolls, you might be able to find them om the internet somewhere. I have some but the device they are on is out of commission at the moment.

    5. Thank you! I couldn’t find too much online the comments made here were super helpful and I figured it out! If you ever get access to them I’d love to see what a stringing guide for this method looks like, just in case there’s a better way to do it than I did.
