Hello, my name is Pharmacy (but I'm not actually one). I had been interested in bjds since my teen days browsing on DeviantArt but never really got into them (well, you know...the price). Now, I'm a grown adult and saved enough money to afford one! But now the accomplishment has worn out and I'm worried about how I'm going to dress my soon to arrive doll (he's got non detachable wings...). Which is why I'm here.
Hello, I hope you post a photo when he arrives. I had planned to share photos of mine but have yet to find a photo hosting site. I joined to see owner photos and tips on making shoes etc.
Welcome and congratulations on getting your first doll! I personally don't have any dolls with wings, so I can't help you there, but I'm sure you can find tips from other users on this site in one of the many threads.
Thank you for the warm welcomes. The wings are wired so removing them is a no go haha. I am sure to find tips in this forum. Also yeah @FayreR. Decent image host sites are hard to find short of hosting your own (rip.) Imgur and tumblr are the only sites I can think of that are “acceptable” for me. My doll is a Dream Valley Sylves (dragon) btw but I will take photos when I get the boi.
Welcome! I'm new here too, but not to BJD! I hope you love your boy when he arrives as he looks totally beautiful! As for dressing him it looks like his wings are up near the shoulders, so you might look for shirts that are either off the shoulder, or some not-too-fitted front-closure tops like button ups or zip hoodies that you could style to slouch off the shoulder and under the wing joint (may need to be a bit oversized?). You could also do halter tops! It seems like the one in the promo pics might be a halter style vest and the fur shawl is added to give him some more coverage and details. You could even do like detachable sleeves or fingerless gloves if you wanted or some kind of cool belted harness. It all depends on what style you would like to dress him in, but I think you have quite a few options there! You can also try to make your own clothes! Since joining this forum I already found some great tips and books recommended by members here to help get started on sewing your own doll clothes. So you might check out the Workshop section if you are feeling crafty! Then you could add closures where you need them to dodge the connection point of the wings.
I hope it's ok to say it right here: Make a pattern for the back of jacket. Draw a vertical line for each wing. Make that line a closure as you would normally make a front closure for a jacket, shirt, cardigan with buttons, velcro, zipper, whatever. This way you will have a separate back panel in the middle and 2 neat closures that you close under and above the wings.
Would love to see a photo of your boy, when her arrives. Also interested about how to dress a winged boy. Following!
@Novalyna Oh thank you! Tbh, I really want to make a clone of his official outfit so it was nice of you to figure out (for me haha) what sort of clothing he has. @AllSmokeAndMirrors So basically like a flap?
