Hello

May 1, 2009

    1. I hope I'm doing this right. All messages are showing up as private and are invisible to me (even those I can see as a guest), so if there some sort of how to guide, I'm definitely missing it and you have my apologies.

Hello everyone, I'm an artist by trade and I'm enamoured with the idea of making my own bjd. I love the idea of having my characters as dolls and I love the customization of bjd, but it'd be absolutely impossible to find some of the body types I want, let alone in proper height proportion. Besides which, I like making things and learning about how things work on my own.

I've sculpted maquettes and anatomy sculpts and dabbled in 3d programs, but I'm a traditional 2d artist. That hasn't stopped me from looking into making bjds before but I've never made it very far. I'm a planner by nature and lack of knowledge on the ins and out would usually result in me deciding not to try. There seems to be a lot more knowledge available these days as this forum is proof to.

My ultimate goal is to sculpt and cast a variety of 30cm or 1/6 scale mature dolls who are all different heights and proportions. Half male, half female. I just want to make my own crew of characters able to interact with each other. I already have the preliminary sketches, a theoretical double joint design, and a plan for an interchangeable ear system. Ha ha, may it never be said I don't dream big, even if I like small sized dolls. I may change scale my scale to 1/4, but I'm bit reluctant because 1/6 model guns are available and I really, really don't want to sculpt guns.

I'm here to learn more and figure out how to feasibly certain parts of the process. I'm not sure how far I'll get this go around, but I'd love to share the process with other interested artists.

      So, greeting everyone!
