I am Tiny Flame. I am new to the world of bjd. Got into it by chance and jumped into it head first. Sooooooooooooooo, ...please excuse if at any time I get frustrated and seem like some parody of the "woman yells at cat" meme. Is there an equivalent of that around here?? I'm feeling that way because you buy a "good looking" doll then 6 weeks later another doll releases that would look good next to that doll you just bought. Then, you blame the artist(s) for consistently putting out great work because it's bad for your wallet, but upon reflection you wonder if it is possibly that you just want all of the dolls. Then, instead of internalizing that thought, you end up blaming the artist for making you want all of the dolls. Which is ironic because you think if people want all of the artist's art pieces, then they are a good artist. (But then, would that mean that you're the cat in "woman yells at cat"? Or am I both of them?)
Welcome! I can definitely relate to wanting all the dolls bjds are definitely a test of self control but I can assure you that it gets a bit easier in time, especially once you have accumulated a few already. Looking forward to seeing your dolls!
Thank you. I have only just started, so I only received a couple. Hopefully, I will attempt my own face ups, making clothes, etc, by winter.
I think the feeling of wanting all the nice dolls you see is a very common one. Especcially when new to the hobby. After a while you become somewhat desensitized and cope a bit better, but it never goes away entirely. When I was new to BJD I had very limited funds, so it was not possible for me to over buy, but a lot of people fall into the trap of collecting too fast in the beginning, before they have fully figured out their tastes and preferences and before getting a feeling for how much time and money it takes to finish and maintain the dolls and how much space they (and all their things) take up. It's one thing to see a pretty picture of a doll on a screen, but quite another to hold it in you hands. Things like how the doll feels to handle, how well egineered the joints are and how different dolls look together IRL is dificult to prepare for. So not being able to get all the dolls you want right away can actually be a good thing. Allthough, the frustration is easy to understand.
Thank you. And, yes, I am collecting too fast. And, I don't know what to do. I hope I will get a better handle of things for next year.
