Hello there! ♡

Aug 5, 2025

    1. Since I've completed earlier on what I've done, hello! My name is Kira-san but you can call me Kira for short.

I became a doll enthusiast last year with actually off-topic blindbox/PVC MJDs and BJDs initially. I do still have them (in total 8 wow-). You'd just won't see them being posted often because I just only like displaying them in their 1/12 shelf dioramas without moving them much.

I own an official BJD (Rosen Lied - Basic Aura) after months of research this year.
My actual first BJD that I bought that isn't secondhand however is a Doll Leaves' Wish (W) and I did the faceup. I do customisations of faces and clothes for fun and I do it for model kits and action doll/figures too when I am bored.

I do art too... yeah, I do a lot of other content but that's besides the point and if I do, I may ramble too much. Nice to meet you all!

    2. Welcomed Kira. Sounds like you have a good start in hobby and you can always share your PVC kids on brigadoon pages if you find the group also into those particular creations. Doing your research is how you protect your money and to not like me waste it esp when you don't bond with it. Those company photos can make you think one thing and then doll arrives and reality stinks. Anyway welcome and enjoy the website it offers many good ideas and can help you know what is for you. After 18 years I think I finally learned I am best with certain companies and to stay away from many others.

    3. That sounds quite interesting! Perhaps one day I'll look into the brigadoon pages whenever I do. It just takes me effort to post my PVC dolls once a while since I don't pose them often, haha!

Yeah, I did a long era of research until I think around February I established getting the secondhand Rosen Lied for my first. It's just a little feel and introduction to resin dolls (how to take care of them, what not to do, and etc.) before I got my second by picking the face sculpt and brand I'm confident that I know what to do with it with of course, looking at people's works and the same dolls they picked too.

Definitely, thank you! I'll enjoy looking around for resources specifically face-ups because I'm not quite satisfied with my third attempt. I feel like I can do better if I get a new doll but I do need more time to seek the right one for the idea I have in mind.

    4. Welcome!

In the Workshop section, under Customization and Maintenance, there are some face-up tutorials :) They're easy enough to find if you click on the Tutorial specifier at the top of the subforum.

It also doesn't hurt to invest in a practice head if you like doing face-ups. Once you have MP access, you'll probably be able to find something for very cheap in there if that interests you. I remember my practice head was only around $40, and I have seen some for even less since then.

    5. I looked at some actually. A lot of them made so much sense that I wish that I had it when I started out but whatever is done is done! Haha.

A practice head is definitely a may be then! I can't really do much even if I get MP access knowing I live in a country outside of US so it might hit more expensively by shipping but I'll still look into it when I do in the future. Thank you.

    6. There are lots of sellers who aren’t in the USA on here so you might have some luck. :) Worst case, once you have access, you could put up a want to buy and specify a preference for something in your own country.

One of the nice things about resin is that you can paint them again and again and not have damage to the head, so even without a practice head you can still get better. Where I struggled was sometimes having a face-up I sort of liked, but then having to wipe it to practice more. That’s where the practice head comes in handy. :sweat

Is there anything else you’d like to learn or do?

    7. Ooh! That might work out after all.

And that is quite true. I was just upset that time I screw up a lot of the face-up for my first time and so far, it's alright but I'd want to do better. That'll solidify a future purchase then!

Not in particular I'm afraid other than the face-ups. I learned sewing and making wigs myself earlier on with the blindbox dolls already (I had all semester break to actually make them haha!). So far, it's more of trying to improve and learn new things I need for future practice.

But, perhaps learning to make my own BJD will be on my list but it's more of a personal ambitious project towards my original character rather than anything else.

My OC is an anthropomorphic rabbit who is described as a 'demon in a rabbit doll vessel' so having a doll of them in real life will be like a dream come true. I already made a 1/12 custom action doll using a premade blank base for the character, it's just the matter of making a BJD version of course. Though, not a priority since I've been quite busy but it sounds nice!

    8. And if not in your exact country, at least something a bit closer. :)

I had that same problem with my first doll, I messed up so much, especially the first few attempts. You will get better in time :)

You could definitely sew and make wigs for dolls if you have time! Wig making seems to daunting to me lol, I dunno why.

Making your own doll would be really cool! There’s a section of the forum for that as well. I love your idea of the demon rabbit and would love to see it if/whenever you do that (even if it’s a long way off). :)

    9. Of course, the wigs aren't too daunting since they are a bit similar to cosplay wigs I've done so I did have experience early on.

I'll see it through! ♡ Even if I can't, I'll look into mostly hybriding BJD bodies and heads with modifications to make it accurate to my ideal.
