Hello~ Late Intro!

Mar 26, 2024

    1. Hello everyone! Posting an intro to get it out of the way finally lol. :eusa_sile I'm brand new to the hobby and currently only own a DDS Frieren. Since this is a resin-focused forum I'll probably mostly lurk, but it's interesting to see discussion regardless. Looking forward to meeting others in the hobby and just generally learning more about it!

    2. Hello and welcome! Are you a fan of the anime or just the doll? Haven’t watched it yet myself, but my obsessed friend says it’s great.
Congrats on the doll! There are a couple dolfie dream threads and some vinyl owners on the forums. They got grandfathered in but other brands have not. I think your girl should be on topic. There is also another forum as well, and that one is vinyl only. I know of at least one member who has accounts on both. (Not trying to chase you off! Just wanting you to know the option’s there.)

    3. I'm a fan of the manga and anime! An overlap of interests is what pushed me to get her. <3 I highly recommend both to you if your friend hasn't already lol. I don't even like anime and it's amazing. ( ´ ω ` )

Thank you for the tips and warm welcome! I am a member of the vinyl doll forum as well! Since this one has some discussion about Dollfies (and I may get resin in the future, who knows~) I thought it was good to be on both. :>

    4. I’ll have to check it out! Yeah, he did lol. It seemed interesting but I’m in the middle of a couple other series. Not normally a huge anime fan either, but there’s a few I enjoy.

They’ve got a lot of good information over there. I’m overly paranoid about staining, so I stick to resin and lurk without an account. To each their own.

Any goals for the hobby? Crafting, photography, or the like?

    5. I feel that! What're you currently watching/reading?

Ahh yeah, I'm a little worried about staining, especially because her stock set has black tights. :( But I'm doing what I can to mitigate it! You have a big resin family it looks like!

I wear lolita fashion, so I hope to twin with her! Otherwise I have no goals, just a love for Frieren and dressing up. :P

    6. Spy x Family (manga) and Apothecary Diaries. And 90s Sailor Moon very very slowly with a friend. Need to finish something before I add one more. Then again, I said the same thing about my resin dolls.

Yikes! Good luck. That outfit’s super cute on her though. Love the wig and dress. Not all black fabrics stain so hopefully that turns out to be one? Even if those do, black tights are basic enough you could probably find another set in a different fabric.

Lolita would be adorable on her, and doll/human twins are always fun to see. Which style of Lolita? And nothing wrong with that!

    7. Oh I almost watched Apothecary Diaries but I didn't think it was for me. Would you recommend it then?

I hope you're right and it turns out to be true! I washed her tights several times and no excess dye came out so I'm hopeful. :>

Sweet lolita! Or really any kind, but I think sweet, classic, and gothic are the most common styles I'll be able to find. I assume I'll eventually need to make anything else. Do you twin with your dolls too? :D

    8. I found it worth watching but my understanding is that it’s pretty different from Frieren. AD is more of a medical mystery type anime.
No running dye is a good sign. Still worth keeping an eye on, but it’s optimistic.
Sweet lolita is so pretty! The pastels would look lovely on her. I think I remember Alice's Collections having some 1/4 dresses close to those styles. Not sure if they'd fit your girl though.
We don't twin. I have a human twin (fraternal) so the novelty's kinda worn off from twins. I once tried making a matching set and it really didn't turn out well. I'm happy to live vicariously through the girls instead of trying to match.

    9. @hospitalitydoll - welcome! Coming and hanging out here before investing in resin is a good idea. There's a lot to know about these dolls.
I learned (the very hard way) that the best way to mitigate staining is to soak the clothing in a cold water bath with a pinch of salt and white vinegar. Because the clothes are made for dolls, the fabric often isn't prewashed like it would be for people, and the dye will transfer. A cold soak with a little vinegar and salt will set the dye (and remove the excess).
Also - those anti-staining outfits are worth every penny. I know the ones Volks sells are full body suits made of some pantyhose-type material, and they are fantastic.
Which reminds me, I should get some more. Hm...

    10. Ah I might give it a watch then! I did see it was more of a mystery which I don't typically read/watch but I'm willing to give it a try if it's good. :>

Ah I'll have to check out Alice's Collections!! I did manage to find a cute appropriate outfit yesterday though it may be a little large. I didn't realize how difficult fit would be to determine for dolls!

That is so cool you're already a twin! Was the matching set you tried something you made yourself?

    11. Thank you for the warm welcome! :) There really is a lot to know... I underestimated just how much!

Also thank you for the tip with for dye setting! I happened to have some Rit color fixative so that's what I used, but being able to make it quicker (and cheaper) is always good to know. >:3 Does the water need to be hot or does it matter?

    12. I think cold is better for dark fabrics, just so you don't have too much fading, but you can wash just about everything in cold water, TBH.
Unless you're using OxiClean. Then it should be as close to boiling as possible. But hopefully, your dolls won't get those kinds of um, organic stains.

    13. Thank you, and good point! I assume her tights are polyester (they definitely aren't a natural fabric anyway), which is really difficult to fade. I did wash them in very hot water without any issues. Come to think of it, I do wish doll clothes listed what fabric they're made of since it would make their care and cleaning a lot easier...
