Hello! I'm a young adult collector of fashion dolls (MH, Barbie, Bratz) who is starting to shift my focus and learn more about bjds. I do not own any bjds yet, but I am doing research and currently leaning towards buying a Zaoll because the height of a shorter adult on a 1/3 scale and the body shape matches the character I want to create very well. I have experience doing faceups on fashion dolls and making clothes, so I am excited to utilize those skills on SD and MSD scales. Once I get my first doll, I would love to be involved in the community and go to meetups or conventions. I have heard that the bjd community is very kind and welcoming to newbies, so I am eager to dive in and get involved.
Welcome & good luck with the adventure! Depending on what part of Texas world you're in, there's a BJD convention in Austin each year, another in Dallas coming up in February (?) And sometimes a gathering at the scifi or comicon in June. This is a great place to learn about bjds & I've "met" great people here. Check out the project journals for great projects plus there are a few sewing threads where we swap skill tips & share current sewing projects which are great for motivation.
Thank you! I'm in the Houston area, but I don't mind driving. I will definitely look into these conventions.
Welcome~ I'm in the Dallas area, but I go down to Houston occasionally for family. I def enjoy the faceup aspect of things too. The Dallas con is Feb 18 & 19, and is a bit cheaper for tickets. https://www.dollcondallas.com/ For the Austin one, it's in Jun 15-17 and a bit more expensive, but they do have a vendor room day that's open to the public for free. Check the schedule. BJDC TEXAS
