Hello everyone. I have been collecting ball jointed dolls for quite a while now - without anyone to share my obsession with. I'm lucky enough to have lots of lovely people in my life, unfortunately, they are not lovely 'doll' people. So I am so excited to have found somewhere that I can share my love of everything ball jointed and have people understand! I originally started my doll journey because the idea of doing face-ups and creating a character for a doll sounded wonderful. So I started doing a little dabbling with a hugoo Wings and Berry before finding resin models. I fell in love immediately and started my collection with 4 MSD sized dollzone and Soom dolls. Then I visited a convention and met some lovely ladies at a stall, they had some yosd sized beauties and, as much as I loved my MSD dolls, I fell instantly in love. I now own a stunning (If I do say so myself) collection of smaller scaled dolls. Mostly Soom Teenie Gem sized dolls, with a sprinkling of Dollzone, impldoll, Peaks Wood and Aileen Doll. I'm hoping to be able to share some images of them on here. I am not the best photographer, but I have bought a little ring light, and I'm hoping to start sharing some of my collection. I hope you love them as much as I do. My dolls all have a victoriana/Alice/Tolkien/fantasy vibe that just sparks joy! I have tried to add some pics I took today of my Teenie Gem Serafina (Minette Sculpt) I hope it works. It's my very first attempt at a mini photo shoot, so please be kind. I'm so excited to be joining this community and can't wait to chat to you lovely doll people. X A
Hello! Welcome to this website : D Your dolls sound super cute . The bulk of my collection is MSDs with a few smaller dolls and the littles are just as fun and a bit more portable. I can't see the photos, are you using Flickr as your image hosting service? If it's that one you will need to get the BBCode from the sharing options.
Hello from North Texas! I collect MSD sized humanoids, though I do have an off topic 3D printed tiny anthro bat that I absolutely adore. The smaller, the cuter for sure! Hope you enjoy this community, it's a really nice one.
Hello from south east England. My collection is mostly MSD and YoSD and I have a couple Soom and Impldoll myself. I absolutely love fantasy dolls of all kinds. Most of my finished dolls can be found on my profile page. I have a Soom Mylo and Teschen, a Soom Ondiin, an Impldoll Gela, and an Impldoll Gia. It’s nice to meet you and welcome to the community!
Hello from Wimbledon! My doll family spans from teensy little RealPuki , right up to a 30 inch Dollmore Lusion, but includes several MSD and a little gang of Yo-sized kiddies. I tend toward Victorian and fantasy styles for a lot of my gang. Teddy
Your collection sounds amazing! I collect only MSD at the moment, but Soom and Dollzone are such great companies. Their 1/4 scale dolls are beautiful.
Hello. Yes I was trying to show images from my Flickr. But I just couldn't work out how to do it. In the help section it said to use the image URL, but I couldn't get it to work. How would I find the BBCode? Thank you so much for your advice. X
Thank you. I have seen some 3D printed bjd's on sites like Pinterest and have wondered what they are like compared to others. How do you find the joints and stringing? Are they as good as with resin dolls or do they need more tlc? Thank you for replying, this seems like such a lovely community. X
Oh my, your dolls are beautiful. Your photographs are fantastic too. I have only just dipped my toes into photo shoots. I hope one day for them to, eventually, look a little like yours. Fingers crossed! Your collection sound wonderful. Thank you for replying to my post. X
I can only speak for the one 3D printed doll I've got, but you honestly wouldn't know it was 3D printed unless someone told you. I think the joints on my little bat friend are very well constructed, but the stringing was a bit too loose for my liking and I'll need to fix that one of these days. I really enjoyed working with the artist on making my doll, but your mileage may vary depending on who you go with. Mine's from QuirkyQritters and I couldn't be happier with the whole process. Of course! I believe that any good community should be welcoming, and I really feel like this one is one of the best around.
I would love a doll from Fairyland. I think they are stunning. I just love the face sculpts, so sweet and expressive. I didn't originally set out for a fantasy/victorianesque Theme, it just sort of, happened. Haha Once I bought/made a couple of outfits it just became a thing - it really does suit my dolls though, especially my Soom dolls. Thank you for replying. This seems like such a lovely community. X
They are! Sometimes Soom will release an MSD sized doll, that is so beautiful, I have to physically restrain myself from ordering them. Haha Thank you for replying to my post. X
I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. I feel like I’m still a novice when it comes to photography. I haven’t had much time lately for them but I’m hoping to get the camera out more in the summer. There’s lots of guides on here about taking interesting photos and angles. If you’re wanting to explore the photography side of the hobby I highly recommend checking them out. They have helped me a lot.
Here's how it works on desktop version of Flicker that you go to in your internet browser of choice: Find the photo on your account that you want to share. It should be displaying on a dark background above a white section with more information about that photo. In the bottom right corner of the dark section there are four lil' pictures, click the one that is an arrow curving to the right. That should open a box with the options: Share Embed Email and BBCode. Click on BBCode and then select size. All of the sizes in the medium range are within DOA's photo size limits. Copy all of the long link that is now in the dialogue box. Paste the long string into your comment box on this website. Use the preview button to see if the link works. If all is looking how you want it to, hit post. It seems like a lot but it gets easier : )
What are 3d printed dolls made of? Are they sturdy? Do they cost less? I used to be into steam punk related things. It looks nice aesthetically. I think a doll in steam punk attire would look really nice
I'm rather fond of their tinies (snapped this of their shelf this morning). The two girls at the back are Petite Ai from Custom House (no longer in business): I know what you mean - my very first BJD (an SD sized Luts boy, coming up on seventeen years ago) had jeans and shirts, and now he's one fo a large family of Victorian children (some of them elves) who rarely time-travel to the modern world. It just sort of happened, although, as an historical costumer, I did always intend to make him some outfits form different periods (like the one in my icon picture to the left) Teddy
The one I have is made of resin, I would say they're sturdy, and yes, they don't cost as much generally speaking.
Ahhhh, they are just gorgeous. I'm even more determined to add a Fairyland cutie to my collection now. I would love to know how to make clothes. I'm thinking of doing some classes to learn how to sew. The outfits I've made have been very basic, mostly adorned using my trusty glue gun to hide my terrible stitching. Haha As soon as I work out how to upload images I will post some pics of my lovelies too. X Oh my goodness, thank you so much. I will try that now. X
Sounds like a plan - I've been sewing doll stuff since my childhood in the seventies, and full sized clothes and costumes since my teens. I didn't sew any of the stuff in the picture, however. A fair chunk of that is from Boneka. I tend to prefer sewing for larger dolls: Good luck with sharing the Flickr images! Teddy
Thank you so much for your advice. I would never have worked that out without your help. x Here are the pics I wanted to share from my first attempt at a mini photo shoot. It is my Serafina (Soom minette) DSC_0203 by Ama Shep, on Flickr DSC_0206 by Ama Shep, on Flickr
Your collection is just stunning. I love the way they are styled. Did you make some of them? I love the cut of them and the sleeves are gorgeous. Stunning. Stunning. Stunning. X
Sweet. And I love her dress. My little wood nymph needs somethinng along those lines. It's one of the few shots I have where I made all the clothes shown. It was for a Fairy-Tale themed doll meet, and I decided at the last minute, to make them pseudo medieval gowns so they coudl be the Twelve Dancing Princesses. I had to pul a sewing all-nighter the evening before the event to get them wearable, and most of the girls are pinned or tacked into the dresses because I ran out of time to get fastenings sewn on (and one girl had to borrow her brother's velvet robe to wear) but they at least all looked presentable for the event. Teddy
Hi I'm also in the UK in the Midlands I have all types and sizes my biggest two are 70cm and my two smallest are puki puki sized cant remember off the top of my head how big they are but tiny little ones. I have both human and fantasy dolls, I really do love the fantasy ones and also have some Dollzones.
hiii from near london :3!! im new to the bjd community but not the doll collecting community. I've been looking and deciding on what bjd to buy for my first for nearly a year now... ik a bit embarrassing, but what can i say im extremely indecisive and kinda broke uni student (i have finally saved enough money for a bjd!).
Wow, you have such a range of sizes. Bet it's super fun to display them, you must be able to creat some super cute scenes. Hello. I love both human and fantasy dolls too. I have a mix of anthro and human dolls. Even some with beautiful resin colours. My Soom Alk is a stunning blue and a have a Soom Cheshire that has just the cutest purple shade to his resin. I just love being able to chat to people who love ball jointed dolls the way I do. I'm so glad I found DoA.
Hello. Welcome to the ball jointed community then. But be warned, once you unbox your first you will be obsessed! Don't be embarrassed, I was the same. I looked at dolls for so long before deciding to finally purchase my first. My Pinterest and Instagram were both covered in beautiful ball jointed dolls. Now I just look at my ever growing collection and I don't regret a single penny. Haha Do you have any idea who you might buy, will you go larger scale or smaller? You must share pics here when your first doll arrives. X
I used to have a big cabinet that all my dolls were in but I took a break from all things bjd for about 4 or 5 years I just stored all my dolls away and sold the cabinet and even thought about selling my dolls as I hadnt done anything with them for do long but got back into things again in 2019. I was glad I never sold any of them, so much changed while I was away.
