Nice to meet you all! After being born and raised in what I consider a not very "pretty to look at" part of the country, I found myself drawn towards all sorts of beautiful things. For the longest time I've thought resin bjd's were absolutely stunning! I loved everything about them! From tiny clothes, props, and their sweet faces, to being able to put them on display so that my eyes always have something new and lovely to look at when I come home after a long day. I've wanted a bjd for years, yet was unable to set aside the proper funds to purchase one until recently. In December of 2021 I finally came across a bjd so beautiful that I decided I must make owning one a priority (It was a Soom Hyperon). So after waiting and waiting for Soom to re-release a doll I came to love from afar, I finally bought my first bjd in July of 2022. He is a Soom ID75 York and I am currently patiently waiting for the completion of his faceup now in March 2023~ I knew putting lots of love into a bjd would be a lengthy process, and after over a year of collecting many clothing sets and props, I still find that my passion for this hobby hasn't burned out in the slightest! In fact, I nearly gave in and impulse bought more dolls I found so beautiful I thought I couldn't live without them haha. I'm so happy to have finally dived into this hobby. Even with just one doll (for now) I'm content to drown in all the fun this hobby has to offer. As I take my time with getting to know my first doll, I hope to make lots of friends, and hopefully my sweet doll can make some friends of his own too. Thank you for reading!! -LeeHa
Welcome fellow Texan! There's so many subhobbies involved in the BJD hobby that it maintains my passion too! I'm at year4 myself, and have found my collections growing sneakily as well hahaha. Hope your Soom boy gets his faceup soon!
Welcome! I'm also from the beautiful state of Texas, born and raised. Hyperon is a grail doll for me. Maybe some day. I've been collecting since 2008. Dolls can be addicting so I try to be very selective now a days. Most of mine are SD size. They take up a lot of room but, they make me happy. Life is too short to not surround yourself with beautiful things. Enjoy your doll and again welcome to the community.
Welcome, it's nice to read your story ^^ Soom BJDs are very lovely, I can see why Hyperon became your first grail, and York is also very handsome! Soom is really good at making those big handsome dolly men and the sculpts really come alive with a face up The wait will be worth it once you get your boy home.... and any others that you happen to pick up. It's wise to try and avoid those impulse buys, there's really so many beautiful dolls out there, it's hard not to wanna snatch them all up! Looking forward to seeing your doll when he makes it home from the spa!
Welcome! I'm originally from Texas as well. It has already happened for this year but you might look into DolCon Dallas. I had a blast.
Hi! It's cool that you're having a good time with the hobby, I hope you enjoy continuing your journey. As iamstrydrsmom mentioned above, Dallas just had a doll convention but there's also another doll convention coming up in June at Austin. I've only been to this recent dollcon but it was pretty fun and people were very friendly
Hello!! I hope to reach at least 4 years of being into this hobby. Part of me feels like I'll never leave it and I'll be an old lady with 100 dolls That's the goal!! My boy is still being worked on as of today, but I hope to see him sometime later this month or early in May.
It's wonderful there's so many Texans who enjoy this hobby, welcome! I'm glad you were finally able to dive in and get a doll you love, I totally agree about being an old lady with lots of dolls!
Hi!! It's so fun to hear from collectors who have been around to see all the lovely dolls from that era of BJD's. I've seen some truly adorable sculpts from 2006-2009 so I'd love to take a look at yours too ! At this point I might dedicate ALL of my space (and life savings) to my dolls so it's nice to hear that other people are doing the same, it helps me feel less guilty Thanks!
Hello! Part of me still kinda yearns for a Hyperon, but I think York finally won me completely over in the end. If my will is strong enough I might invest in one more Soom boy so my York has a friend to keep him company while I'm away, but we'll see how well that goes LOL. So far no impulse buys have happened!! But it hasn't been easy... I'm so excited to share his doll profile here once he comes home!!! It'll likely be another month before he arrives, but the wait has kept me motivated. Thank you!!
Ooh, I will definitely make an effort to attend the next one!! I've heard so many good things and saw all the friends people were able to make. Hopefully by the time the next one rolls around I'll have my dolls all painted and dressed up so they can meet everyone too Thank you!
Hello! That's great to hear! I'm so glad there will be another opportunity to attend a con this year, at least, within Texas. I have no experience with any sort of con so I'm definitely excited that (hopefully) my first one will be all about a hobby I love more than anything else! It would be so great to meet many of you there!
Hi!! Yeah I've noticed that quite a few U.S. based people are from/in Texas, which is really cool to hear!! I hope that means there's a higher chance of seeing lots of familiar DOA members at the cons here in state Totally! I couldn't be more happy with the fact that my first bjd is essentially a grail doll. That kind of luck probably won't happen for me again, but that's probably for the best considering I'd go completely broke LOL Hopefully I'll be a wealthy old lady, that way I won't have to think twice about impulse buys Thanks!!
