Hello from Europe!

Hello All!

My journey to buying my first BJD started in 2011, on a local anime convention, where there was a display of BJD dolls. I had absolutely no idea what they were but I was mesmerized. Back then, it was just a part of what I perceived as a Japanese hobby, along with watching anime and dressing yourself in a lolita fashion.

As I come from a middle-sized, east European country, it all seemed very odd and fascinating but I was far from pursuing BJD hobby and was just watching from afar.

Then, one of my friends became totally obsessed with BJD in 2014 and tried to do his own doll - at that time I was swarmed with photos of hands, wires, heads...Sadly, we lost contact.

Finally, around 2016, a well-known Japanese museum within my city hold a proper exhibition of BJDs, some quite disturbing in their styling. Still, I was just merely watching as I knew no one collecting dolls back then.

Now I'm slightly over 30 y.o. and finally have spare funds to treat myself. A few years back I started collecting other figurines, mostly from my favourite manga/anime series - while browsing for them I stumbled upon non-BJD doll, but similar enough in style that all my memories regarding BJD returned. And so here I am, 2 weeks after I placed my first order on Alice's Collections.

I have a few original characters living in my head, on paper, or being avatars in RPG games, so my dolls are supposed to embody those. I do not think I'll be collecting dolls in vast amount - I plan to have 2,3 max and carefully curate them. I can definitely see how time and money-consuming this hobby can be, but who knows, maybe if my first doll gets to me, I'll get him companions

Wow, DoA notified me it has been a year since I joined the forum. Just getting back to my very first post to see how I changed within this year.

And yeah…let me tell you I have already 6 dolls, either full or incoming.

I have also tried my first (failed!) face up last week. First year was mostly waiting, getting some accessories and supplies. My dolls came in August and then in December.

My grail doll head (can you even have one after being in the hobby for such a short time?) has shown up unexpectedly on IG and I managed to buy her head! Still waiting for the body and styling ideas.

There are still a few sculpts that tempt me though
