Hello all!

Mar 8, 2025

    1. Heyhey! I'm Artsy. Just a guy in my mid 20s:)

I found this place over a decade ago when I was first interested in BJDs. I was a bit too intimidated by the language barrier though, as english is not my first language, and so I didn't end up joining at the time.

I got into the hobby again last year, after seeing all the cute dollies on tumblr. I got a couple of the off-topic blind box dolls, but they just made me want the real thing more. With now adult money (and after a bunch of research) I finally took the dive and ordered my first proper doll! I can't wait for him to come home. He's a 1/4 scale Telesthesia Du Xiaoju and will be made into one of the two characters that started my whole BJD obsession- Gakupo from "A doll's voice" song:whee: (the second character is Chii from chobits! Or rather, the persocoms in general. I'd love to make a persocom doll in the future!)
      :sumomo:

Besides dolls I also like furbys (got two!), doing different crafts like crocheting, drawing, sewing, lace making, woodcarving... -I'm not that good at them, but like doing them either way- and gardening:)

    3. Oh wow, that photoshoot is amazing! And thank you, I'm happy to funally be here:)

    4. We have crafting interests in common!

Chobits was the first anime I watched as a kid; I was obsessed with Chii and she was my gateway into anime and dolls.

Welcome:) Your English is perfect, btw. I can’t wait to see what creative projects you get up to with your dolls!

    5. If you ever want to show off your off-topic dolls, there's thankfully the Brigadoon section which allows off-topic doll discussions. And I was obsessed with Chobits when I was younger. If you do make a persocom doll, definitely post it!! You can even make a WIP project board over in the workshop section, so you can upload your progress on the dolls you're refining and ask for tips if you need it.

    6. It was also the first anime I ever watched! Back when you could still find the entire episodes on youtube lol
I can't wait to do fun doll projects, the four-ish months before he arrives is a lot>_<

    7. I might show them off, they're pretty heavily customised which has been fun:) some of them I got bodies-only and then made them custom heads and wigs!

For the persocom doll, it'll have to wait a little bit more since I prefer to work on them one at a time, but they'll definetly come:cheer

Do you think I can make a WIP board before my doll comes? I plan to make some underwear and a pretty robe before that so he wouldn't be naked, so I could probably post that.

    8. I just ordered mine, too! 4-5 months is an eternity. We can be waiting buddies if you want haha ♡

Yes! Those were the days. Rip old Youtube :,(

    9. Hello and welcome to DOA! Chii was kind of my gateway into BJDs as a child. I would love to see more dolls based on her especially some of her iconic outfits from the manga. Do you have a favorite? Congratulations on your dolly purchase, I hope the wait time isn’t too long and he arrives to you speedily <3

    10. @Jareth I love Chii<3 I don't really have a favourite outfit, but I do think that the more puffy the dress, the better:XD:although her first outfit will probably be the shirt... at least while I figure out how to sew everything else!

She's on my "most beloved character" list, same as Gakupo, which means I'll 100% have her sooner or later, but also that I'm really picky because she has to be perfect! So it might take some time before I find and buy exactly what I'm looking for:)

    11. Yes! You can totally do that. The WIP threads are for planning and working on anything, clothing included!

    12. Oh neat, thanks!
