Hi, I'm Sammy! I've had a long-term love of and fascination with dolls and have a few years of experience customizing playline fashion dolls, but only recently stepped into the BJD hobby with my first 1/4 scale resin doll, who arrived this past autumn. She's a Gem of Doll Coco on their new Windsor body, and I'm absolutely in love with her. I've been working on some clothes and a wig for her, but she will unfortunately remain faceless until the miserable Northern Ontario weather co-operates enough for me to be able to spray sealant. Right now, I'm knitting up some sweaters for her to wear, and I've also been working on a cozy pajama set on and off. I also have a blog for my doll crafting adventures here. There's not much there just yet, but I do have a (very long...) post detailing the first project I made for her: a dress form made to match her measurements. There is some doll nudity at the link, since, well... she didn't have any clothes yet, so be aware. All in all, I'm really excited to be here, and really excited to meet more people in the hobby!
I just had a read through of your dress form blog post, and wow! It came out looking great! I can't wait to see all your dolls crafting adventures, make sure to post in the workshop threads and forums! Welcome!
Thank you so much! I was really excited to see the workshop when I joined, so I'll definitely be posting there in future. I've already been through some of the threads and tutorials and learned a lot!
Hi there! Nice to meet you and welcome to DOA! Congrats on your first doll and I hope the weather improves for you soon ^^ Any plans on how you’d like to style your doll?
Thanks! I do have some plans in place: the first wig I've been working on to make for her is a dark brown bob, and I'm leaning towards a midcentury/mod aesthetic for her outfits. I've taken inspiration from 1960s and '70s sewing patterns for my dolls in the past, and there are already some I've been eyeing to try to recreate for her... I know I want to give her freckles when I get around to her face, and I originally planned to make her a set of brown eyes since one of the things I really fell in love with was the big dark eyes the Coco fullset has, but the grey pair she was shipped with at random have been growing on me. I guess we'll see!
@issniovg That’s such a cool idea! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a BJD styled like that before so I hope you will post some pics when she is done! And there’s definitely a lot of great sewing patterns from that era as well!
