My name is Sanctuary and I decided to make an account after ordering my first BJDs earlier this year! Waiting is very difficult and I figured it might help to have company. I’ve only just given myself permission to engage in this interest after over a decade of dealing with self-judgement. I’m an artist and a writer; I do digital and physical sculpture and build self-designed dioramas in various scales, as well as sewing, painting, and mixed-media art. I love everything small and cute so BJDs perfectly fit into my interests starting when I was thirteen. Dolls, art dolls especially, have always been special to me to create and admire and I’m super excited to have my first four on the way right now. I plan to have one more ordered in a month or so. The dolls I’ve ordered: Maskcat 1/6 Luise directly from Maskcat Maskcat 1/6 Joy from ACBJD) 2D doll 1/6 Mingbao (boy) from ACBJD 2D doll 1/6 Mingbao (girl) from ACBJD Qianqian Doll 1/4 Yuanbao head and Angie body from Space Studio BJD I have already drafted and made lots of clothes and am building a display/storage stand for wigs and hats as well as a wooden wardrobe. That in between finishing the wiring on my 1/12 scale diorama is taking up 100% of my studio space right now! Anyways, I’m super happy to be here and hoping to make friends! ♡
Hi!! I haven't ordered my first dolls yet, because I'm still very new. But I'm a writer, too! I'm excited for you and can't wait to see what you do with the sculpts!
Thank you so much!! I’ve been wanting to order since 2020 but kept talking myself out of it! I wish I hadn’t because it is so hard waiting! Yay! Writing friends! ♡
Are you going to write stories with your dolls in them? I love reading doll stories. I would love to see pictures of you dioramas as well as your dolls when the dolls get home to you! Waiting can be hard. I usually sew for my dolls while waiting on them. Welcome!
I think so! I never heard of the concept of writing stories with dolls before and I think I might really like doing that! My dioramas aren’t currently BJD related (I made a 1/12 scale of the main setting from a novel I wrote as well as a few 1/28 scale cyberpunk dioramas). I’m not sure if I’m allowed to link my Instagram, but if so, I love having friends with similar interests! I’d love to see some of your sewing! (I have my instagram handle on my profile! My miniatures are mostly in my highlights under ‘tiny things’!)
There is place in your profile where you can add your Instagram. Under 'home page' if you want. Some people also put their links in their Signatures. The 1/12 stuff, is tiny, I love looking at the doll house sized dioramas. I can't even imagine how small 1/28 is. I am thinking matchbox car sized? Looking forward to seeing your stories!
Welcome! It looks like you've chosen a tiny crew. Sewing in miniature is a challenge. I also enjoy making doll scale furniture. I entered a diorama in a doll show several years back. It was a spooky theme that year, and my diorama was a little girls room with a four poster bed and full of night terrors that glowed under a black light. I called it "Things that go bump in the night ". I placed 3rd. That was the last time I made a full diorama. My grandchildren still play with many items from that display. Fun times, but sewing is my reason for doll play.
That sounds AMAZING! I would love to see it! Yes, I love having someone to sew for, especially because tiny clothes are much cheaper to make! Sleeves are so difficult at a smaller scale. I made my reception dress for my wedding and that was easier than some of these tiny details!
Welcome to DOA! Congratulations on your dolly purchases and wishing you a speedy wait time! I would love to see the dioramas you have made Most of my dolls are too big to make dioramas for sadly but I do have a very tiny Elfdoll Tulie who shares a home with some of my Sylvanian Families Aaand in response to your post in the other thread… I too was obsessed with Chii and her outfits as a child. A couple weeks back I finally (after a nearly 20 year wait) got a pair of chii ears for myself
Hello and welcome! Maskcat's 1/6 dolls are beautiful - congratulations on your crew! The miniatures on your Instragram are gorgeous too. I'll be looking forward to seeing what else you create!
Good for you making your reception dress. I'm retired from 38+ years in the bridal industry making custom gowns and doing alterations. Sounds like you enjoy sewing. It is not only a valuable skill, but a great creative outlet.
That’s incredible!! People who do alterations are absolutely magical to me; I’m in awe of your experience and hope to be capable of such things myself someday. The dress was really a challenge because it was self-drafted from scratch and we were holed up in a hotel room following a house fire at the time. It gave me something to focus on in the aftermath and kept me sane.
hi, welcome! I checked your art out on IG and it's awesome. I also love how you share photos with your husband, he's so tall haha! you both look so sweet together We already follow each other and I love every time I see sesameadventure pop up on my feed. I hope you enjoy this new hobby and find the dolls you love. x
that means so much to me!!! you completely made my day :,). hahaha he is very tall! he’s 6’2” and I’m 5’0” so there is a significant height difference there! we are best friends and very much in love ♡ I am so happy to hear you love Sesame adventure!!! Sesame makes me happy and I just want to share that with people ♡ thank you so, so much, again, you are too sweet and it really means a lot to me ♡
https://photos.app.goo.gl/pjSTkeZdFRjtbAS2A Here's a better photo of the diorama. Have you received your doll yet?
I love it!!! So spooky and so much attention to detail. My first doll arrived but her head was too small for her body so I’m waiting on a new body on top of everything else. Mostly, I’ve been spending time making things for my pet doll to pass the time.
That is so frustrating when you wait, and wait, and wait for a doll and things don't work out like you planned. I was going through my dolly dresser yesterday ( yes I have a full human size highboy dresser) and was looking at all the shoes, wigs, and eyes that just didn't quite work out. I found a floating head and a large bust chest that I'd forgotten about. I don't have a large collection of resin dolls, maybe 10? But I've been collecting dolls since I was 10 years old, so 54 years worth of dolls and their clothes and accessories. I hope your new doll head comes soon and it fits just like you are expecting.
