Hi, I'm in the process of making my own BJD, but I can't seem to figure out how to do the head cap. I plan on casting the doll in resin once I'm done (and can locate resin dealers/moldmakers, scarce as they are in this part of the world ) and I want the headcap to fit and not fall off, the way it would if I just cut it out. >_>;;; So I'm pretty confused about this, and Noah's dollmaking tutorial is helpful, but it's not what I'm looking for. Help me, please?
I have trouble making the headcaps as well. The only tip I can give you is to buy some rare earth magnets to use to keep the head cap and the head together (see this page). The headcap will always look like a part of the head has been cut away and pasted back on, as far as I know. You can go on the BJD Head Index and see how the different companies have sorted it out. Good luck!
I haven't tested it myself - I know that my dolls have their headcap held on by a ring of resin that is attatched to the head cap. The S-hook that holds the head on is hooked through that, so pulling the head cap off is kinda dificult. Other dolls I've seen have strong magnets in them to hold it on, and I personally much prefer that method. The head index is probably a good idea for this.
