Have your dolls hurt you?

I think I've had a finger pinched in a waist joint, but that's it. They can be touchy little creatures...

 

You don't know the meaning of the word "MERCY!!" until you have had an Iplehouse EID suddenly retract his massive arm-elastics while you're changing his hands, and before you can get your finger out of the wrist socket, snap shut on you like a pitbull's jaws riiight on that delicate top layer of skin on the back of your knuckle. And NOT LET GO. If you are working by yourself and have nobody to help pull him off of you, you need to leave even more layers of skin behind in that joint before you can get free. My sweet-faced Bijan gave me a blood-blister that lasted most of a week. I was actually considering tightening his stringing, when I realized that I probably shouldn't make him any stronger. The EID looks like such a nice guy, but beware.

My old Kid Delf's headcap snapped shut on my finger while I was trying to change her eyes, once... it was awful!

 

okay, that description of your injury is hilarious! I could just see you gritting your teeth, fighting your natural response to avoid damaging your doll!

I'm glad now I leave my crew pretty loosely-strung: I'm a spaz and don't need any help injuring myself. Most of my doll-related owies have come from tools, not the dolls themselves...

while restringing him by myself once (and only time) i had his legs under mine inbetween mine to hold him so i could pull his elastic. he slid AND PINCHED ME IN A VERY NO NO NO OMFG THE PAIN THE AGONIZING PAIN PLACE, the if i was a guy i'd have lost it place. and gave my bf on the speaker phone a heart attack.
plus the pinching of arms and hands and fingers.

do not ever try this part at home kids, cause omlfg, the pain.

no one knows the meaning of pain till you have a dz 70cm thigh (with prongs PRONGS!) pinch you in the hoohaw.

 

Every now and then I hurt myself when stringing a doll, one time I lost my grip and ended up slicing my finger with an s-hook, I bled unintentionally on the doll itself. Of course I cleaned the doll and went right back to attempting to string it again. I like my dolls to be really tight. 8D

 

There are lots of doll related injuries here.

 

Nothing major has happened to me. *knocks on wood*

I was cutting open the cardboard box that contained Sabe and Dion and accidently slit my finger with the scissors. I got blood on the pillows, both boxes, and a doll before I realized I was bleeding.

 

My girl has fallen on my head before. She sits on the top shelf of my desk and I was fixing something near the bottom of it and she fell. My head broke her damn fall.

 

Two nights ago I was redoing the hot glue sueding on Vincent's knee joints. There was a very stubborn section of glue, so I grabbed an X-acto knife to pry it out. The X-acto knife slipped in the joint as the glue came free and I ended up stabbing the X-acto knife straight into my knuckle. The blade went right in between the two bones in my middle finger. Went to urgent care and told them I was trying to fix my doll, and they didn't believe me. Damned Lati old style knees. I had to sacrifice my own joint just to get his working. Brat.

 

Erm... The first time I tried restringing my doll I was stupid and didn't prepare what I needed to hold the string into place. And well... I had the S-hook dig into my finger and it eventually broke skin. Not as painful as some listed above but the stupidity of being unprepared... u_u

Owwwww.... Okay I just read these and some sound downright gruesome.

And by the end of the day, the only thing the besotted owner is concerned about is whether the injury will hamper with playing with the dollies, LOL!

 

Eh. Restringing my 70cm hurt like hell. =3= I've caught myself on S-hooks, using my finger to keep the elastic from slipping instead of a pen. I'm not the brightest person. Thankfully no blood though. I don't bleed easily.

 

Getting a head butt to the nose. @_@

Sephion didn't like being put in this home-made T-shirt, so he bent forwards and hit me on the nose. He didn't brake it (Thank goodness!) But it made my eyes water for a bit, while I pulled the shirt off of him.

 

No major injuries for me, only a pinched finger when trying to pose my DOT. I was trying to get him to bend a certain way, and he decided he didn't like that and snapped back into place, right over my finger, which was a fair bit of painful.

My Latidoll has also given me a nip to the finger, but those two are the only ones. I've re-strung my Iplehouse doll twice now and nothing has happened. He's much more well behaved.

When i first modded my Shiwoo Vampire, (first time i had him) his head rolled in my palm, and the exacto knife plunged into the meaty palm of my hand. About 75% of the blade went in....and lemme tell you, i swear to GOD i thought i was going to have to go to the hospital. LOL

Another time, Mykal head dived from the shelf beside me, right as i turned my head to look at him. His VERY long shiwoo nose hit me in the mouth, and put a tiny chip in my tooth.

I got stabbed in the eye by the Lishe Pointy hand, which is on my Arachne....

and the final thing i can think of, is when i was trying to put an outfit on Dresden, my Dollzone BB Jing, i had to take his hands off. Now i don't know if any of you have seen the Dollzone wrist system on the BBs, but it's similar to the volks system. The hand stretches out, you take it off of the hook, then rotate the hook, and it holds itself in the ball of the wrist. Well, he was brand new, and his elastic was pretty tight, and strong. The hook slipped through my fingers, and the metal hook stabbed through the flesh on the end of my finger, sinking very deep, and then coming out of the surface when i tried to pull back. OMG it hurt. LOL

 

I've had a few stringing incidents...stringing tools slicing my singers, S-hooks cutting me...a few nasty pinches and one really painful elastic snap-back

 

I was like "what..?" when I read the title haha. Um, no, don't think so. But my fingers were sore from restringing, if that counts haha.

 

I've gotten bloody fingers from joints and whatnot, but what stands out to me is the time I was holding Moak and he decided to bend at the waust, slamming his pointy nose right into my forehead. Gave me a visible bruise, he did x.x

 

I've had my mother's doll kick me a few times.

 

I've been pretty lucky so far. No injuries to date.

But there was that one time I went to a doll meet-up and I watched somebody restring someone else's doll. The hook she was using was stuck within the lower arm. After tugging at it several times, it popped free and jabbed her right into the tender side of one of her fingers at the joint--the area where blood vessels are visible.

Yeah, blood gushed everywhere--flooded the whole shopping mall and drowning everyone in sight. Nah, it wasn't that much. But it still looked very painful.

 

OK.... I don't know how you all are with re-stringing your dolls but when I help my GF (Aves) it's like........ REALLY PAINFUL ON THE FINGERS! It might have something to do with us having no re-stringing tools (the hook thing) but ouch! It hurts like hell.

Other than that nope, nothing like the movie "The Doll Master" LOL!

 

I got my finger caught between Ivan's ankle and leg when I was restringing him.

Also, when I was working on a skirt for Varushka, I let her stood at my table in front of me. But she has kicky legs so I was concentrating on placing her legs and then she flipped over and hitting me with her evil pointy Soo nose. On the head. That hurted!

Other than that, I can't remember anything right now.

 

When i was changing my doll's feet the day i got her i was trying to put the S hook into place but instead it ripped some skin out on my left thumb (near the nail) I was talking to my fren on the phone that time and i screamed very loud cuz it was obviously painful and i eventually hung up on my fren cuz of the pain-_-"

 

Ohhh...there are certain members of my horde who take gret delight in biting me frequently and then there's Dorian and Rene. Restringing those two means EXTREME pain, blood and probably swearing.

The last time I strung Dorian, his torso joint left a blood blister on my palm that lasted a good week. Rene's S-hook swung as I was pulling up to put his head on, carved a curve into my thumb nail that covered about half the nail and it was only when I saw red that I realised it had gone THROUGH the nail. His joints bite me often too, especially those souldoll double knees...EVIL things.

I've lost nails & skin, drawn blood, bruised and left bloody blisters often, it what I like to think of as lasting reminders of my love hate relationship with my SD's, I love them, they hate me. Oddly, the mini's and tinies have never even left a mark!

 

My dear Torin has pinched me a number of times, especially when I was wiring him. I also managed to stab myself under my fingernail with some needle nose pliers while fooling with the wire. >>; Blood, not fun.

 

Logan has. >.o He did NOT want to be put in a black button down. And I managed to struggle him into it anyway. And then... THWACK. >.o He smacked down and his nose hit my hand. >.o He bruised me! He got his way. >.> I put the black shirt away.

 

I have been pinched, hit, kicked, and stabbed by xacto knives. When I'm working on them or things on them with the knife, it never fails, I always end up getting stabbed. Of course, my first reaction is, "Did I get blood on the resin?!"

Oh, hell yeah, I've been hurt by dolls. I've been kicked and smacked, and my fingers have been pinched in joints. Also, my boy's headcap is attached with an S-hook. Oh Gods, so many blood blisters, especially when changing his eyes.

Also, I was restringing my friend's doll yesterday, and my part of my thumbnail was nearly ripped off. Luckily, the part that DID come off was only the part that I can regrow easily, but oh man, it hurt so bad.

 

Mischa kicked me good yesteday. And Isaac has repeatedly kicked, headbutt and smack me. XD

 

Soon after I got Kha, I tightened his strings...when I was finished, it took me quite some time to pull the S-hook back into his head so it would stay, and I somehow cut the knuckle of my middle finger on my left hand. I still have a scar there, and Kha still has my blood on his strings (I was more worried about the resin, and didn't see it. Guess he's 'officially mine' now.)

I joke about my doll 'biting' me when people ask about the scar on my finger. XD

 

*bought said doll from Missie* She's gotten me a few times with that darn headcap! And she tried to kick me in the face (Brushed my nose with her knee!) when I tried to pull her out of the box upon comming home.

 

my toe suffered one of those "wait I think I lost the elas--*snap* OOOOUCH" accidents. I was re-stringing damian for the first time and was really proud of myself for managing to get it done without any trouble at all, and I was putting the last pieces of the leg together (I held them in place with my toes while pulling the elastic) and then, well... yeah. it hurt for a few days. :F

 

When tightening her strings, Aine ended up chipping my fingernail!it wasn't long mind you. She's pinched my finger in her knee joint. She toppled back and her headcap hit me in the head. *gonk*

I have to say "please" and bribery I guess.

 

Yeah, I've been kicked, headbutted, pinched, cut, assaulted by elastic band, torpedoed with s-hooks, the works.
I tend to do a lot of restringing and sueding, so I consider the latter things as 'work hazard', but the headbutting is being done by one particular fiesty doll only

 

i dont think...or cant remember (maybe selective amnesia lol)... ive gotten hurt by my dolls... but they have hurt me emotionally... like... they seem to have a thurst for money. Also they have taken a tumble or two... and every time i feel like ive just had a heart attack .... checking them over to see if they are ok.

 

I've gotten pinched fingers before, as well as cramped fingers and sore hands from restringing.

 

Im not even done making my dolls and already am sporting several scars for my efforts.

 

I can't help but laugh even though these all sound incredibly owie!!! *hugs all*

I've had two incidences that stick in my mind.

1. I was off to my first meet and getting William and Mae ready, and I decided to put Snowelle's shoes on William. I had to remove them from her, but I think she was throwing a tantrum because she wasn't coming, and as I took them off my finger caught in her ankle joint. It pinched really badly and bled Not a nice thing to have at all!

2. Emmanuel faceplanted me on the forehead. OMFG that reeeeeeeally hurts and left a bruise! I was most affronted as I had just made him a new outfit and spent ages trying to convert an original 18th century pattern into doll size. Ungreatful little thing!

 

Alex (first dolly!) arrived Tuesday, and within two hours I was taking the poor thing apart (I've discovered I'm a fairly intrepid BJD owner). I didn't vouch for the hooks holding his feet on being so sharp and one of them took a small chunk out of my finger. I don't fancy that again, so I've tipped the ends with a little PVA.

 

My CP El, Rache, has headbutted me in the forehead and caused a headache more times than I can remember. e_e Oddly enough, I've never been knocked in the forehead by any of my other dolls.

 

yes, my boy has many times decided to "bow" and hit me in the head or chest...and it HURTS!

 

yeah, I’ve been pinched in joints and accidentally stabbed by wires while re-stringing and wiring. Also I have had my dolls hips give out and been clocked in the head with theirs. lol

 

My first attempt at restringing...

While I was trying to pull the body elastic from my DM Kara's body up through his neck hole into his head, I discovered that I DO have arthritis in my hands. My right hand started cramping so badly I lost my grip on the tool and the "S" hook in the upper elastic almost impaled itself on my finger. It took off a few layers of skin as it snapped past into the neck and body. (No damage to my kara just to me). But first restringing lesson learned.

 

The underside of my nose is very tender now from my sister's Bee-A kicking me fiercely in the face when I was trying to get some shoes on her. That doll's stringing is EXTREMELY tight, so she was bound to hurt one of us.
...So since my sister hasn't gotten around to it, I'mma take the initiative and loosen her girl's stringing tonight. I don't want that doll to cause any more injuries, to me or anyone else. X____x

 

a long time ago, someone commented about an elf eared doll that moved its head and almost stabbed him/her in the eye... D: creepy.

Oh yeah, you want to be careful carrying pointy-edged dolls!... Especially if you are female... My merman-Vega has fins on his arms & ears that are pointed like daggers, and if you do not tuck his elbows in at his sides before picking him up, he WILL jab you right in the gazongas. I mean, OW. But sometimes gazonga-jabbings are just part of life. You just have to be careful not to wear those inflatable enhancement brassieres around elves or mermen.

I kinda know what you mean! Ryuichi-doll's loaner head is a '07 Na Nu Ri and those pointed ears got me in the moob a few days ago! I thought I was gonna die, it hurt so much!

He's also kicked me, headbutted me, fell forward from the waist and headbutted my head, and don't forget the famous Luts dancer's leg...that thing has kicked me so often I just shrug it off. And I've only had him since November!

It seems that he hates trying on my homemade clothes, it usually happens when he's trying on something so I can fit it to him. [I suck at hand stitching, but I don't know how to use a sewing machine, and I don't have one yet ] He even slapped me the other day when I was working on a hoodie I was making for him! I just kinda blinked and kept on putting it on him.

Funny, once the clothes are done, he's fine with them. He's so spoiled...

But miniRyu's done nothing...yet.

I've had plenty of pinched fingers, bloodblisters, rope-burn, and bleeding. But I think what takes the cake is the time I stupidly decided to switch out a doll's head after getting home from a long (12 hour) shift at work, when I was half asleep. Even worse, I didn't bother finding a proper tool, and just used the first pair of needle-nose pliers that came to hand. Long story short, the pliers slipped on the s-hook and I ended up stabbing myself in the forehead, just at the top of my nose, directly between the eyes. I still have a scar, and apparently I chipped the bone (I had a serious bruise for a long time, almost as long as it took the puncture to heal). One inch to the right or left, and I would have had to go to the ER with pliers in my eye. Urgh.

 

I bruised my hands restringing Sabik. Those strings were so stiff! Took several days to stop hurting!

 

When he used to live on my bedside cabinet, Moridin would regularly slap me across the face thanks to that wonderfully springy Luts elastic and Tom has booted me in the face a few times as well.

 

So far it's only really happened to me once... I know my dolls have kicked me every now and again- but only twice have I actually drawn blood.

My SD13 Mimi once snapped forward with her nose gouging into my hand... that head mold isn't called the killer nose for nothing. x_X

The other time I gouged myself trying to pull an AOD's strings too tight with the S hook was already on it... that one hurt for a while.

 

Back when I first started collecting dollies I had a Luts Lishe who decided to headbutt me and pinch my thumb at the same time. She hit me hard enough that her headcap and wig went flying off her head.. my fiancee started laughing cause he didn't think it hurt me... till I started crying and then developed a really bad headache, lump and bruise. Not to mention the blood blister on my thumb.

Yeah he felt like crap after he figured out I was hurt and he had laughed at me lol.

 

his elbow joints have pinched me a few times and his chest joint too @__@; it stings. Nothing too serious yet.

I've only ever handled other people's dolls and was far too afraid of hurting them to do anything that might result in the opposite occuring.

 

I must have a very sick sense of humor to find personal injury hilarious xD;;

Stupidly used my fingers to hold the elastic when restringing nayo, and I won't be doing that again (purple fingers).
Kneed in the face a few times.
And Kellion (DOI) likes to snap back and bite my fingers with his chest joint when I'm trying to get him to slouch or change his clothes.

I've noticed that they prefer to smack themselves in the face and give me a heart-attack instead of attacking me directly.
