Have you ever regreted something with an order?

Oct 26, 2022

    1. Have you ever regreted something with an order? I don't mean a whole doll, but like the body you choose, not choosing yes for the face up choice, and so on.

I ordered a doll from Telesthesia 7 months ago, and I'll probably have to wait another 2 months :abambi:
But at this time I've grown bored of the story I have for my dolls and changed it, not just a little. And now I wished I had bought this guy in light tan instead of normal pink.. :atremblin

Have anyone felt something similar while waiting on a doll?

    2. Usually what I regret is not ordering extra parts even though they were available (like more hands, heel feet, extra head with a different expression, etc). I tell myself I'm already spending enough money, I shouldn't get extra parts! But later I always wish that I had.

    3. I regret not getting my Oswin in tan resin. I thought that it would be fine just dying him and the process itself went well but I didn’t fully understand that faceups and body blushing on dyed dolls are essentially permanent. Dying him after I cleaned him with Windsor and Newton brush cleaner and then removed the old dye with acetone created this weird effect where the darkest parts of his faceup were completely resisting the dye (brows mostly) while everything else was only taking on a slight color after nearly 2 hours in the dye bath. I’ve been able to avoid this issue on his head by painting it thinly and you can’t tell that anything bad happened but I’ve had to scrap my plans to blush his hands because paint will rub off on the wrists. I still don’t know what caused the face to resist dye, I suspect that using more Windsor and Newton on darker parts left oily residue that somehow soaked into the resin and can’t be removed.

(anecdotally I’ve heard that using a Magic Eraser or very fine sandpaper on a doll will also prevent dye from taking…is this based on any kind of fact? I don’t have a spare piece of resin that I’m willing to test this on)

    4. Yes, I have one doll I wish I had ordered in a different resin color. I also forgot to order extra hands with a couple of dolls. They are tiny and only $10 extra but now I’d have to pay full shipping to get them or wait until I order another doll from them and buy extra hands for the ones I forgot, I just hope the resin match won’t be off since it is not from the same batch.

    5. Most often it's a case of regretting the resin choice for me. I bought a Mystic Kids Lillian in pink skin and when she arrived she was VERY pink, and it wasn't natural-looking at all and completely ruined the doll for me. Luckily a friend took her off my hands and enjoyed her a lot more than I did, but it was still a huge regret.

I also have a normal skin head that I excitedly bought a white skin body for that I thought I'd be able to blush the head to match, and I really don't know what I was thinking, lmao! I'm still happy with it I just regret thinking I could easily get something white without an airbrush.

    6. I had a Granado doll I ordered and during the wait I was wishing I'd ordered a darker color. Once they arrived the head sculpt didn't work for what I had in mind anyway, so I sold him.

    8. Same, thought I wouldn't want heel feet... ended up ordering heel feet later, and so paying for shipping twice :doh

    9. 100% agree on either not buying option parts at all or not buying enough. For my last doll, I learned from my mistakes and spent nearly $200 more on option parts. And I still wish I had more!

Another regret was choosing realskin for my Iplehouse boy. The resin is absolutely beautiful, but I worry about taking him outside and I'll never ever be able to upgrade his body. At least they worked out the pea green kinks by this batch... This only became a regret 10 years after ordering.

    10. Yes, on my first order! I ordered a doll from Resinsoul in light gray resin. After ordering I was looking excitedly at lots of pictures of their dolls and realized light gray would be too light for me.

I immediately sent them an e-mail asking to change it to dark gray. Luckily it wasn't too late and now I'm waiting for a dark gray Mei. :D

    11. Yes, I wish I had ordered my DC Gladys as a full set so that her mechanical limbs were already painted. I've purchased some paint to do it myself but I hesitate because I'm worried about the result.

    12. Yep, I am also one of those who regret their choice of resin color in an order. It was for an artist's doll and i got it in mint/pink and was so fed up by pastel colors by the time of arrival ... I dumped the doll in dye and now it's dark green :'D

    13. Regretting ordering Resinsoul Tang instead of Sui sculpt (same sculpt sui just has elf ears) I ended up having to mod him to have elf ears :sweat

    14. I'm so happy to hear :3nodding: Sadly I don't think they'll let me change my mind after 7 months :sweat

    15. I usually regret not buying something. There's outfits that I really love that have since gone out of stock, wigs that would be perfect that I passed on, option parts that I just couldn't justify at the time...

    16. Yes and no!

My first ever impulse buy of a Dollzone Gene has been a roller-coaster of emotions for me, lmao. I love him every time I look at him but when I think about him I wish I would have gotten him a different body. I currently have a different Dollzone 70cm body without the wings on order for him... but I keep thinking oh maybe the wings aren't that bad even though I have to figure out replacing the teeny tiny s-hooks in his wings because they're too long and then that becomes a headache to think about. I'm just in love with his blushing too. SO, yes I regret going back on my original plan to have him on the 70cm no wings body with the Gene blushing/monster hands and feet BUT no, because he is really nice to look at. He's a really confusing doll for me. xD

    17. The only real regret I've had is in where I'd ordered a doll from many years ago. It was when I'd ordered my Ringdoll Valo, and the stateside store I'd ordered from was not very professional. I'd inquired 3 months after ordering (in which I'd paid in full at the time of ordering), if they had an update on when they expected the arrival (I was quoted 4-5 months at order). I was responded to with an "Oh, we haven't even ordered it yet". A week later I got an email that they'd placed the order, and estimate was 3 months... 7 months later he arrives without warning, JUST as we were about to leave for a doll meet at a friend's house; so a surprise opening at a meet-up was a fun time. He was flawless and perfect, and made me forget all about the stress of the whole ordeal.

I never ordered from that place again, and I think they went out of business because their website is a dead link.

    18. I kind of regret not getting the version 2 73 cm body for my LS Ying Zhou, since it does have that little bit extra height and the ankle extenders that the version 3 73 cm body doesn't. But I can always add lifts to his shoes to give him a bit more height if I want, and i do still think the sculpting is more aesthetically pleasing on the one I ordered, so ultimately I'm happy with my choice. But there's still that little voice that says "but what if" xD

    19. I have one artist doll head on preorder, but I should have gotten 2.
I wanted 2 different looks for him, but I ordered just one before i realised i could just use 2 heads of the same sculpt. I could probably wait for the next preorder but who knows when that would be.

    20. My regrets usually come in ordering something then a few days later seeing another incredible doll or outfit that I want appear. By that point I definitely don't have the money to purchase the new release so I'm left wondering if I made the right choice. Or like others have mentioned I regret not purchasing extra parts/the wrong resin color.

Out of all my purchases though my biggest regret was not checking the sizing when purchasing my second ever doll, now have an SD doll significantly smaller than all the rest she's almost completely unusable for photo sets though I love her :doh

    21. Hopefully you'll be happy with it anyways when it arrives. :3nodding: And if not, you could always sell it.

    22. Yes! I think it comes down to the fact that this is an expensive hobby and after spending so much on something non-essential it is natural to have doubts and focus on „what if”. The choice has been made so your brain will ponder over „lost” alternative.

I have ordered my first doll in white skin and then, 2 days after, I panicked over it and asked dealer to change to peach. :XD:

But I am fairly new in the hobby so still testing resin colours, face-up vs no f-u etc. I am ready for messing up my orders and learning from that experience.

    23. Sometimes I do with resin color or bust sizes. I know there’s dying and modding but it’s a pain

    24. I regret ordering my bloodwood M Duke head in light tan. I love the head and colour but there are so few options for a body in a matching resin colour that has the correct neck size.

I still love the head but if I were to go back in time to when I ordered it I would definitely just get it in white or normal yellow.

    25. I ordered one doll in white resin, but I wish I chose tan. At the time I thought I would like white resin, but I prefer tan.

    26. I actually regret buying the extra sleeping heads :sweat I never get around to giving them a faceup so they just sit around packed away. I'm always like why do I keep getting the extra head if I never use them :doh I banned myself from buying them now lol

    27. I ordered the wrong head for my DDY TT_TT, now she looks so.. dead inside ;_;, but it did motivate me to get into trying to make my own faceups now xD!

    28. Count me in the "I wish I bought a different resin colour" crowd. I ordered a doll in white skin, then after a month wished I'd bought it in normal skin, and after another month wish I'd bought it in tan.

But all this happened well after I bought the doll, when I sat down and thought about the doll's character (I shell OCs) and what kinds of colour schemes I'd like to put on it. It so happens that all my dolls at home are pale-skinned, so I must've initially chosen a skintone I was familiar with... but now I'd like a bit of variety in skintones. But honestly? I don't know what I want, lol, and I haven't received the doll yet so it's too early to make judgments. I think I'll still be very happy with this doll in white skin. We'll see if I still have regrets after it comes home and I try some different styles.

    29. I regret not buying fullset, More specific my E-an. had the option to get the clothes (sadly hat was not included) I still want that suit til this day:XD: I also regret not buying my Myou Vieruodis as fullset with everything except bodyblushing. I believe it was because I thought I could get her faster that way.

    30. I regret not ordering fullsets for three dolls I'm waiting on, but since the sculpts were being retired and I ordered all three at once, it would be far too expensive to do so. Maybe it's just me fretting over nothing atm since I may want to go for a different style from the company's styling after I receive them. I do like painting and styling them myself, but I don't think I'll be able to make it look as good as the company's.

    31. I am hoping I don’t regret not getting a sleeping head with my Bimong Cocoro order, but I was pushing my doll budget limit already, I just couldn’t justify dropping another $100.

    32. The only thing I really regret about an order was not getting a face-up on my first doll and not ordering something basic for her to wear. More so I regret not getting the face-up.

I was in school and had limited time, and I think I bit off more than I could chew with trying to both learn face-ups and trying to learn to sew at doll scale. I should have just picked one to start with, and realistically, I should have picked sewing. Still, even having a basic dress when she got here would have taken a lot of pressure away.

Ever since then, I feel a sense of being overwhelmed when I have too much to do for a doll, especially a new doll that I’ve had to wait months for. Now I try to either make sure they have clothes ready or a face-up when I get them — not being without both.

    33. This is my regret, too. I was trying to save on costs at the time and decided hey, I'm crafty! I'm an artist! I can totally do my own faceups and sew my own clothes!

Spoiler, I could not do either of those things and it greatly impacted my ability to enjoy my doll.

    34. I kind of regret the color choice for my Sweet Gale Cyril's body. He's a hybrid, and his body is "normal yellow" from Doll Chateau, which, at least for the year I got it, was actually kind of orange. I was able to get his head blushed somewhat to match, but I sort of wish I'd gone with either white or straight to tan. I guess I had no way of knowing it would turn out orange, though.

    35. Not getting option parts/extra hands. I hardly ever order anything new, but it was an absolute ordeal to get the extras later on and the production times were/are unfortunately similar for both bigger and smaller parts. I also wanted to change resin colour after already making an order once because I got a better idea but that was an easy fix thankfully.

A bit of another angle to this - I've also wished I made the order from another dealer/shop - but sometimes you just don't know if things are going to get weird so it's always being smart in hindsight.

    36. I have to laugh about it at this point but almost every time I regret not getting heeled feet...

    37. I ordered a Dollfie Dream Kirika Towa Alma that was in bad condition... then realised there was a mint condition one available.

So I ended up with 2x Kirika.

I'm kind of glad I acquired both. Now my bad condition one mostly lives life as Empty Miku because her original owner took her eyes out. Also Kirika has become exceedingly rare, and I have a couple of them.

    38. haha I am totally the same!! But over the years, I learned from my mistakes:love and I ordered extra parts at my last 2-3 orders:D
