Has anyone been to a Crossroads: Doll and Teddy Bear event?

Jun 9, 2017

    1. There doesn't seem to be any doll conventions in my area other than the Crossroads Doll & Bear Show. I can't seem to find too much information on it other than that there will be antique and modern dolls as well as teddy bears. Does anyone know if they will have modern BJDs?

(I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section.)

    2. Yea, I've been to the one in Puyallup a few times over the years. For the ones I went to, there was one dealer selling BJD clothes (the same one each time, they're local and I know them) and not much else specifically for BJD. Some of the dealers had their own BJDs out, but none for sale. There are plenty of dealers to get wigs like Monique, glass eyes, shoes in a range of sizes, all kinds of supplies, etc. but, where I went at least, no BJDs for sale. The focus is heavy on antique dolls, not even that many fashion dolls or teddy bears.

That said, the dealers don't move with the show, they're different everywhere, and I haven't been in a few years either. I had a good time anyway! Everybody was very friendly and liked talking about all kinds of dolls and it's a nice place to get stuff like wig fibers, brushes and fancy sanders in person. (Plus I made out like a bandit on bargain bin fashion dolls and action figures from the sellers that did have them.)

    3. I've been to the Portland show. We usually have 2-4 BJD related booths but it's mostly other types of dolls at our show. A lot of antique style dolls. Sometimes you'll find some furniture treasures and other props that can be used for BJD's.

    4. Thank you both for responding! I guess I can only hope there are a few BJD booths in my area, which seems unlikely considering this is the only convention around here. I'm sure it will be interesting in any case. (:

    5. I have actually been to the show once, it was really nice seeing all the vintage dolls and various old retro toys. The dealers were friendly and there is so much stuff to look at! I spent a whole 3 hours just wandering around, I even found a couple of cool trinkets for my dolls after all that hunting. I saw only 2 tables that had BJD related items and booths, most of the show involves old teddy bears and porcelain dolls. I recommend going at least once to check it out, its not too expensive either!

    6. The Salt Lake one is small but super friendly and lots of people adored our ball jointed dolls!

    7. I went to the Puyallup show a couple of years ago and your experience matches mine. Lots of antique dolls, a few artists' dolls, some teddies, some reborns and that sort of thing. One BJD clothing seller. One shop that did have quite a few interesting prop items... But by-and-large not really a show intended for us.

I ended up buying a tiny antique "penny doll" as a prop for one of my SD13 girls and a rather nice little tea set, but I'm not sure it was worth the drive all the way down from Seattle.

    8. I always find something at the shows. I used to paint porcelain dolls, so I know a lot of the dealers at our local show. I also find some vintage clothing that fits the bjds I have. I would say go. You might just like it!

    9. I've been to Puyallup when I was out in Seattle area 2 years ago. Not many BJD dolls but one or two dealers with a more BJD focus. If you want non-BJD specific wigs or eyes or even some shoes good place to go. Sometimes being able to try on in person helps if you bring your doll.

    10. I attend the one held in San Diego twice a year. There is often one or two - BJD booths. The vendors change, and it's been different ones. However, even if there are none at yours - take your doll - because there are other good finds - chairs! Sewing stuff! Small special buttons! possibly wigs and shoes that will fit! little animals that are perfect pet size! So, yes, I've gotten a dress or two - but really - I've star buttons and chairs and stuffed mini horses! :)

    11. I've been to the Puyallup one, and to a few down in Oregon. If you don't mind driving, it's worth going just for fun. As others have mentioned, I can usually find eyes and wigs, and occasionally good clothing. Oregon shows seem to have more selection when it comes to BJDs for sale. The best part about it is meeting other BJD owners. There are more and more of us at these types of shows. Start a meetup thread before a show, and see if you can find others in your area who are willing to meet. I always take a doll as a size reference.

If you are in Oregon or Washington, there are two annual local BJD conventions, the PNW BJD Expo and Resin Rose. I haven't been to Resin Rose, but the PNW BJD Expo seems to have good attendance.
