Groove / Jun Planning / J Doll Collectors?

Jan 5, 2022

    1. I've really gotten into "a little of everything" fashion doll collecting. (Still need to slim down the Barbie collection, though.)
I've got a few BJDs in each size (except mature tiny), some of this, and some of that. Now, I'm looking for something different. Something new. And I found the Jun Planning J dolls by Groove.

Anyone collect these dolls? They seem really pricey for a 1/6 scale doll - more than double of a Momoko. Like Poppy Parker premium prices. But there's one on Mandarake for 10,000 yen (less than $100 USD), and I'm tempted.

Is there a reason for the premium price? I've never seen one without clothes, so I have no idea how they're built.

    2. I remember seeing these on Pullipstyle about ten years ago, if I remember correctly, they're on the same bodies as Pullip. Sadly, Pullipstyle doesn't seem to carry them anymore, but I remember the pricing being around the same as pullip at the time. I think pure_embers on instagram may have one or two?

Edit: looking at pictures of them, I can 100% confirm they are on Pullip bodies! Also, there's a FB group for them also, maybe people there will have a better idea on fair prices for them?

    3. If I remember right, J Dolls weren't that expensive when they were in production- their value has just gone up because they've been discontinued for several years now. I always wanted one since they're super cute, but I never got around to getting one back in the day and they're not worth that price tag to me now :sweat

    4. I'm actually really surprised to hear that they've gotten expensive. A while back they would occasionally show up at Tuesday Morning in the US (along with Ai dolls and unpopular Pullips) for $40-ish. They are cute, but many of them are quite flimsy and fragile.

      Here's a good review:

    5. Oh, my. That is a great review, thank you. I think I'm going to have to pass, based on the fragility of the joints.

    6. I can confirm the joint fragility. I was gifted one of these girls and the person who gifted her had to mold her an entirely new hand because her's had broken so badly. The base was also broken. I love the doll, but I wouldn't spend the prices that are being asked for them now. But you have to remember they're fashion dolls so they're focusing more on the fashion quality than the dolls.
